It is a great pleasure to recommend Jenny Simpson for admission to your Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction program. During the previous academic school year, I had the privilege of coaching and managing Jenny. Given that there is not an algorithm for determining excellence in teaching, I would say that she consistently demonstrated certain characteristics and actions that would set her apart from other teachers in our program.
Since day one of my management relationship with Jenny, she has been on a mission toward an ambitious vision of high achievement, critical thinking, self-efficacy, and culturally responsive & responsible teaching and learning. There was a never a day or moment when she was not constantly striving to operate

For example, about mid-year, she realized that her assessments were not challenging her students or creating opportunities for them to engage critically. Instead of giving up and simply teaching to the test, she began to truly embrace teaching as ongoing inquiry into her view of her students, their learning, their identity and her teaching. In action, this looked like a strong devotion to taking advantage of learning professional learning opportunities and managing up to receive the support that she desires. Her orientation to learning to increase her effectiveness led to the planning and execution of rigorous and culturally responsive teaching and assessments. This critical moment in her teaching, exposed a mindset of high academic (and behavior) expectation, coupled with a view of herself as the teacher & leader responsible for the success of her students.
When I received an email from her regarding her application to a graduate program, I was not surprised because constantly yearns for opportunities to deepen her knowledge of the content and the pedagogy behind teaching the content. Jenny Simpson has the highest recommendation for admission to your program. She has demonstrated excellence as a corps members and teacher at American Way Middle. Knowing and respecting how I was becoming, I knew that my curriculum in my classroom would have to be student-centered in order for what it needed to be to be meaningful to me as a teacher. It is with all these connections - and a wealth of questioning, storytelling, and searching – that changes are made into greater beings. Greene talks about living wide-awake, and that has to start by teaching, learning, and modeling wide-awakeness.
In the movie Forrest Gump, Jenny is such a misunderstood person and in no way the evil woman many make her out to be. She is just a lost soul trying to find a place in this world where she belongs and can be happy. She has a hard time thinking she deserves to be happy and loved. Although she mistreats Forrest time and time again, it is not her intention to hurt him the way she does. The way she acts and the decisions she makes all stem from the abuse she went through as a child, then just continues to snowball from there.
My motivation for pursuing graduate studies specifically at University of Maryland is because of the rigor and quality of instruction from the College of Education that I received firsthand. I had the privilege of undertaking the Elementary Education program as an undergraduate at University of Maryland. The program proved to be rigorous with high expectations from professors, mentors, and supervisors. Although the demands of the program were high, I was fully equipped with the knowledge and skills
Sonia describes Miss Katz as a being a different teacher from any other teacher she has had before. She found an importance in not getting stuck in routine learning. Miss Katz motivated her students to challenge themselves. She made the impression of being an educator, but still educating herself. She saw the importance of being a life-long learner. This concept is very applicable and relatable to my future career as an educator. I must always remember to remain a life-long learner. Not only can I apply this concept to my future career, but also my current college experience. Every day I wake up and feel unmotivated and discouraged I can remember to push through because my education is
Pursuing something new is fun and exciting, especially if the pursuit positively impacts someone else. I am grateful for the opportunity to re-enter grad school, this time at the doctorate level, to realize a dream that I’ve had since the
When I was gaining my Bachelor’s Degree, the key statement throughout my journey through the education program was “I will continue to be a lifelong learner.” As I finalized this program I have reached this goal, and this will continue throughout my journey as a teacher as I become involved with more and more school and district based county activities through which I can use the theories, methods, and strategies I have learned throughout this program. In general, it is best, as Goldhammer (69) stresses, to avoid critical dissection of teaching. Too much criticism and

Through the completion of my graduate program in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, I have gained an immense amount of knowledge and a plethora of skills which I have used and found valuable in my seventh grade English classroom. My outlook on student learning and my empathy towards students has also been positively affected by the program. These learning opportunities have led me to become a better educator both inside and outside of the classroom.
When I first began teaching over twenty years ago, I do not believe I had a clear idea of what my vision of education was. I was hungry for knowledge myself and took every opportunity I could to attend professional development and implement new curriculum and instructional strategies. During the early part of my career as a teacher, I developed a
It is my pleasure to recommend Shayne Strickland for admission to the Master of Education in Special Education at Howard University. I remember meeting Shayne for the first time the day of his interview and thinking how original and calm he seemed. I have worked with Shayne in my position as Lead Teacher at Life Pieces to Masterpieces for a year. He is highly intelligent, honest, and creative and has demonstrated leadership potential inside and outside of the classroom. I enthusiastically supported his decision to pursue his graduate degree for the same reasons.
Glen meets Nicole SImpson in 1992 while he was working at a construction worker and house painter down in California. Nicole Brown Simpson was a residence of California and she hired Clen to paint her condo. It was then when Glen realized Nicole was wealthy. Glen stated to his brother he was “going to take her down.” OJ (Nicoles Ex Husband) gave Nicole a valuable pair of earrings he wanted them back. OJ hired Glen to get the earrings. He even told Glen to murder her if he needed to. Glen claims that OJ was responsible for the murders of Both Nicole and Ron Goldman. Glen also stated that OJ hired him to intimidate some of Nicole's drug dealers, so they would leave her alone. OJ said that he was tired of paying all of her debts. Glen says he
My measurements of success are found in each and every student I teach. One of the most rewarding experiences I have had while student teaching, was watching a child’s face light up at the pivotal moment when they grasp a new concept or master a new skill. In fact, those “aha” moments are my motivators which feed my desire to look for better ways to ensure all students experience those same “aha” moments. As an effective teacher, I am determined and dedicatef to the continual process of researching, implementing, collecting and analyzing data to ensure I am improving upon the curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment used in my classroom. Learning is a never-ending process. The better skilled I become as a teacher, the better the learning experience I can provide for my students. Therefore, the more I actively research, implement, and reflect, the greater the opportunity for giving my students the education they deserve and hopefully, the inspiration to pursue their own lifelong love of learning.
