I believe that Polk County Early College High School would be a great school for me because of smaller class sizes and more one on one opportunity with teachers. I feel that I thrive in that kind of setting because you can feel free to ask for help if needed, and it will be provided much more easily than in a larger class room. I also love the opportunity that the school provides to be able to earn college credits while attending high school. I am a very self motivated person and being able to complete work at my own pace would be significant. If I am working at my own pace I will be given the chance to work ahead and cover more material which is great. The University of Southern California began to develop in 1871 when the citizens of Los Angeles believed it was time to pursue the idea of establishing an institution of a higher education. Eight years later A citizen of LA, Judge Widney, formed a board of trustees and provides a donation of 308 lots of land from three community leaders. Soon USC was finally becoming a reality, It opened with only 53 students and 10 faculty members. The school soon thrived and things started to begin such as the school of music was founded in 1884, and the college of medicine began a year later. Early College High School at Delaware State University is a place to save time and money, and earn up to at least 60 college credits in high school. If I were to describe ECHS in one sentence, I would say that they move very quickly, but are very helpful. Although this school is very helpful there is a downfall, that downfall is that they are unorganized. One thing that made my 9th grade year here at The Early College High School at Delaware State University more smoothly was that some of my teachers had a sense of humor which made the environment feel a lot more positive and it made me feel comfortable that this school isn’t severely strict. Throughout our lives, we will endure plenty of mistakes and take ownership of situations we did not mean to create. When asking the question ‘If you were to get one do-over in life, what would it be and why?’, my answer would be to attend an early college high school.

Freshman 101 is a class adapted from the parrot program (Fay & Medway, 2006, p. 226). The parrot program was designed for college students at Cornell University. Freshman 101 is the first of its kind in the state of South Carolina and the first to extend Parrot’s college program to high school freshmen (p. 226). Each two-hour intervention class contained 25 to 30 freshmen students. The objectives of the class were to have participants understand the definition of acquaintance rape and the frequency that it takes place along with South Carolina’s laws regarding rape (p. 226). Junior High is a scary thought. You are little and going to school with the big kids. It wasn’t to bad after I got used to it.

The University of California, Riverside (UCR) was founded on February 14, 1907 by the Riverside Citrus experiment station by until April 18, 1959 it became a general campus that everyone could attend. Since then they are a total of 21,539 enrolled in Fall 2015 and a total of 18,608 undergraduates and 2,931 graduate students at UCR. They offer majors like Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biological, Sciences, Biology, Botany, Plant Sciences, Business, Administration, Business, Economics and much more. That is a glance at what they offer in academics, but they also believe that student should have time spending in their education but also having done. Recently, UCR just had a block party and they contact singers, they sell food and carnivals so students get a time to have fun and spent time with their friends or even make new friends as they meet new people. They also have a health fair, and animal shelters and things similar to do, so they can keep their students informed on what is going around Riverside and along California and as a county in a whole.

Freedom is all about being independent and making your own choices and decisions. Freedom is about not having to listen to other people and being able to do what you want and when you want to. With making all these choices on your own requires responsibility. Responsibility and freedom go hand in hand with each other.

Sophomore year had ended, and my summer had just begun. After a long wait to gain permission to go on a backpacking trip. My father gave me the approval. I took my love for the outdoors and began to explore it even more.

Although I have accomplished some difficult tasks, attending an early college high school is one of the most challenging, and most rewarding thing that I have accomplished. When I first began the school, I did not want to be in an early college because I wanted to be able to participate in things like sports and band, but after being here I realized that it was actually one of the best decisions I have ever made. In an early college high school we have double the workload of a regular high school, not to mention the rigorous classes we have to take. Nevertheless I worked hard and was able to maintain a fairly decent GPA while working after school and volunteering.

Most high school freshmen are often asked bout their future dreams and goals and many have it all planned out, others are just waiting for it to seek them. If I was asked as a freshman “where do you see yourself in six years?” I probably would have never guessed that it would a thousand miles away from home. As I grew older and matured I started to view life from a different perspective and I knew where I was headed and where I needed to relocate to in order to achieve my goals. I began observing those around me in my family’s business and craved more. My major is Business administration with emphasis on Management. It’s freshman year and my mom helps me move cross country from Colorado to Nebraska, unload my stuff from the mini-van in giant rolling laundry carts into McGloin Hall, my home for the next nine months. McGloin is supposed to be just for sophomores but all the freshman dorms filled up so they stuck me in there, too. It’s half-reward, half-punishment, newer and nicer but isolated, tucked and hidden by deep green deciduous trees on the far end of campus.
