Five main laws that underpin the provision of health, safe and secure environments for young children are:
Health and Safety At Work Act 1974
Under the act 1974, both employers and employees have duties. Employers must produce a written policy explaining how they will ensure the health, safety and welfare of all people who use the premises. Social and emotional development of babies and young children should be encouraged. This can be done through activities provided at any childcare settings or within the home. They should be given opportunities to interact with other children and adults. For example, they should play with their parents and have playdates with other children
The main features of the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) is that it requires certain health and safety procedures to be maintained in a health and social care setting, for example, the act explains that there must be, safe operation and maintenance of working equipment, plant and system, maintenance of safe access to the workplace, safe use, handling and storage of dangerous/hazardous substances, training of staff to ensure that there is health and safety, to provide welfare for staff at work.

In summary, young children learn many skills while they play and interact with the others. Therefore, it is important to create activities that enhance the child’s development, such as social skills, speaking skills, motor skills, cognitive skills, and emotional competence. Draco who is preschooler, he demonstrates learned skills and learns new skills while he play with friends and interact with the teachers. Draco’s social skills is thriving because he enjoys and engage in the group activity, the dramatic play. Draco’s speaking skills is at the Early Production stage because he responses in short-phrases and have a simple conversation. We also use communication books to for each child, this makes it easy for parents/ carers to communicate messages to a child’s key worker and to inform them of their child’s daily activities at nursery. This helps to build a good positive relationship with parents/carers and also offers us the opportunity to include parents in the further development of their child at home too.
