Being a Kilgore College student has opened my eyes to the many opportunities that the world has to offer. As I started, my first semester, I was just ready to graduate and receive a degree to be able to look for a job. However, I have realized that my education can exceed more than an associate’s degree. That instead of just finding any job I can further my education and start a career. My plan's have now changed dramatically, my sophomore year, I have thought about the overall picture and seen that I am capable of more than just a college degree. My career plans consists of graduating Kilgore College this summer and then looking forward to transferring to UT Tyler to continue my education to become an Accountant. Although I am also considering the University of Houston, since there are more opportunities upon graduating there. Once I graduate …show more content…
I have been fortunate enough to have such a close loving family, but this past year has been hard on us. My father has been forced to retire due to a knee injury he had last year which has made money scares. My finance was still able to take care of all of us these past months, but due to the oil field being slow he was laid off and has made it hard for him to find a secure job. I know that in the path to reaching my goal will not be easy there will be challenges, but I do not want to give up on something that I have worked so hard on. I have dreamed of becoming a C.P.A for a long time and never thought I could even make it this far growing up in a low income family. This is why I am in the search to find someone to help me fund my education. I would love to be able to achieve and accomplish my race in becoming a C.P.A. Although I know I have to take steps to get there, and that it will not be easy. I know that searching for people who believe in me will allow me to become who I want to
As a student at Indiana University Northwest, I would like to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I consider clubs and school involvement a valuable resource that can further my education by gaining new experiences and making new relationships. I believe that they can help me grow as a student at IUN and as a member of society. I was raised in a home that regarded a hard work ethic as the key to being successful in anything. In response to my upbringing, I pushed myself hard not only in school but also in life. At some points in my highschool career I would have trouble balancing school and my 3 jobs. I pushed myself to my limit and eventually eliminated one of those to reduce my stress level and increase the quality
Since starting employment for Grifols 8 years ago I’ve developed a desire to push past expectations. I already surpassed my original expectations since starting as a Donor Processor in 2008. Now here in 2017 I’m the Training Coordinator for Talecris St. Paul. As time passes, I gained more experience, knowledge, and confidence in my role. With this confidence I want to take on more challenges and grow more with the company. The professional goals I wish to achieve with a degree are to more gain expertise, take charge of my career, and be a positive role model to others.
I cannot tell you how many times I have been asked what I want to be or do when I grow up. Answers have ranged from voice acting to park ranger to even veterinarian when I was particularly smaller. Before education, I was in the Moody College of Communications with an undeclared major then a radio-television-film major. The classes were interesting, but unfulfilling. Did I picture myself actually working in the film industry? The short answer was no; it just was not me. Spring semester of 2015 after much internal debate over the winter break I switched to the elementary education major, however I have yet to have passion for the major or career options that are attached.
As a seventeen-year-old in high school, life is always interesting. My parents started homeschooling my older brother and me when we were in the second grade. We attended Evangel Family Christian Academy which is a school located in Montgomery, Alabama. We switched to a different cover school also located in Montgomery named Ezekiel Academy. When we decided to change schools, I was only in the seventh grade and my brother was a senior. I am still attending Ezekiel Academy and have started my junior year. I play baseball and basketball and have been blessed and fortunate to have my father coach me throughout my current high school career.
Throughout my high school career, my spare time has been invested in playing sports and volunteering in my community. For four years I have played club soccer; additionally, I ran on the varsity cross country team for three years. I have also done volunteer work with local organizations such as Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia. My experiences in extracurricular activities and community service have helped me to develop new perspectives.
Most high school freshmen are often asked bout their future dreams and goals and many have it all planned out, others are just waiting for it to seek them. If I was asked as a freshman “where do you see yourself in six years?” I probably would have never guessed that it would a thousand miles away from home. As I grew older and matured I started to view life from a different perspective and I knew where I was headed and where I needed to relocate to in order to achieve my goals. I began observing those around me in my family’s business and craved more. My major is Business administration with emphasis on Management. When it boiled down to it, I knew where I wanted to go, the state I wanted relocate to and the university I intended to transfer
Upon receiving my state of Florida high school diploma, I plan to immediately begin working a part-time job. I will be working this job to save enough money to go to my dream college, Full Sail University, as soon as possible. By going to this college I can pursue my love of art and apply that to models in video games. By going to Full Sail, in particular, I feel that I may have a better chance of successfully getting a job in that field. I have already planned out my future, and have been doing so since seventh grade. I wanted to be prepared by the time I graduated because I knew how quickly the “Real World” can hit someone out of graduation.
My priorities in college are to get my education in Lewis and Clark transfer to a University, to learn as much as I possible and to gain the experiences required for any post-graduate work I would like to do. There are many different options available and I want to use my time in college to explore every one of them, to find the best fit for me. I think my time in college can be used to search for a career which I would enjoy, yet still allows me to be self-sufficient. But most important is that I retain good grades and graduate from college, because no matter what I do a degree is an important asset in the job market.
At the beginning of this term I did not know what college or career readiness meant. But now that we are a few weeks into this course I have realized that we need the Learning Skills, Transition Knowledge, Key Cognitive Strategies, and Key Content Knowledge to be successful without careers. It takes effort and determination to keep pushing your way through, but letting one bad grade get you down will set you up for many failures. You need good effort and a good attitude to succeed in life.
It took me three semesters in college to declare a major. I decided I wanted to go for Accounting. Ever since I was in elementary school I really enjoyed my math classes, but at that age I didn 't quite have a clear idea of where I wanted to go with that. Math has aways been my favorite subject. I always thought about going into a field that required a lot of math or numbers in general . My two top choices were either being a Math Teacher or somewhere in the Medical Field. I first grew interest in the Business Field when I was in high school and working at Macdonald’s. I was only 17 when I was being pushed to become a Shift Manager. I went through some of the training, but I didn’t go through with it completely because at the time I wanted to focus just on school. However, for me that was the spark to the beginning of my interest in the Business field. I then decided that either Accounting or Finance was going to be my area of concentration. After taking Business 181 this semester I decided that Accounting was definitely what I enjoyed the most and I saw myself going somewhere with that major. I’m aware that it is definitely not going to be easy, but I can honestly say that I look forward to transferring to a university and pursuing this major. I know that even after school, it is going to take a lot of time from my personal life as I will need to be dedicated to my job, but I think that can apply to any career. I am aware of how much time I will have to sacrifice. As I
There is no doubt that in today’s world a college degree is a make it or break it point on a résumé when looking for a career. I have spent a good chunk of time searching for what career and what degree I would like to pursue. At first I was not so sure, I started out as an engineering student. But after three long, hard fought semesters I was tired, beaten down and I did not feel like I was on the right path. So I changed my degree path. I transferred to a community college to get a certificate in welding. Welding was fun. It was intriguing but it was challenging. I finally found myself in a place where I was motivated. I found myself in a place where I was actually excited to go to school. I was excited to go to class, to learn more and to do the best I possibly could. I worked hard,
It appears that the most appropriate model of career counseling would depend on how much insight the client has, their stage of development, their age and cultural background, and their career and developmental maturity. All of an individuals life experiences, their personal and career goals and aspirations for the present and future will affect their choices regarding career development. There are differing opinions on which factors play the most important role in career development. For the purpose of this paper I will focus on Donald Super’s developmental theory, as well as his life-span, life-stage model, and integrate narrative career counseling that has proven effective in my own personal career choices. Narrative career counseling helped me narratively construct my career decisions through my knowledge, experiences and what I found to be meaningful. The process of narrative counseling includes clients revealing facts about their past and present career development, and their design for the future (Hughs, Gibbons & Mynatt, 2012). Evaluating how a client interacts with their environment and choices made, narrative career counseling is an active approach to learn about them through these interactions. The client’s story, or narrative, usually begins with a difficult situation or transition, and leads into the middle stage that includes obstacles preventing a move forward toward their goal and the instruments that can be utilized to reach their
Recently I have questioned what university to attend, what to major in, and what career I want. Three years ago, I wasn’t even planning on attending college, I was just a high school student with no direction. Two years ago, I decided to begin my college career, and thought a business degree was in my future. One year ago, I realized that following my passion is the most important career choice I could make. Today I know that I want to attend the top tier research institution that is the University of Washington, and that I want to follow my passion and major in Environmental Science and Resource Management. I’ve also come to terms with, that while my career path is unclear, it will work itself out in time.
“Faith in your own powers and confidence in your individual methods are essential to success,” wrote Roderick Stevens. These specific words have and will continue to motivate me throughout my first year in college. Upon arrival of freshmen year, I was very excited but also nervous about the unknown. My excitement came from the feeling of being in a new school with unfamiliar faces. To some people, that may be the total opposite, but considering how bad my last four years of high school went, it is refreshing to have a new beginning. Although college and high school are completely different, I was fairly prepared for the amount of hard work I was going to endure. I knew that my choice of major was going to come with many challenges. My career plan was to become a registered nurse and work my way up from there. During my time as an RN, I want to contribute a few years of my life as an Emergency Medical Technician. Having the same dream since I was seven years old has helped motivate me through challenging times. As some people have one person they look up to, I have a variety. Every doctor, surgeon, nurse, and paramedic whether it’d be on television or in real time. Although that is a few years away, I will be able to apply the strategies I have learned with reading, writing and, vocabulary to the remainder of my college experience. Examples such as using appositives, writer’s brush strokes, absolutes and, active verbs. As I consider my current academic journey through the
High school senior face a major life decision college vs. work force. Most do not realize the severity of this decision. When faced with that choice I decided to pursue college at Kent State University majoring in Paralegal Studies in 2009. When asked why paralegal my answer was simple and my younger self was smiling with pride. I wanted to help people. I had an ideal image that I was going to be my own version of Erin Brockovich. When given that opportunity, I realized that real life isn't like the motion pictures.
