Volleyball is a team sport that is played by two teams consisting of 6 players each on the court. Every player on the court is given a different job. A game lasts about 90 minutes. Volleyball is a sport that requires proper nutrition, physiology, biomechanics, and the knowledge of anatomy.
A volleyball bump is also known as a pass. It is the first contact with the ball following a serve from the other team. The first bump is hit close to the net, so that it can be set up for a spike.
1)There are three different types of muscles used while bumping a volleyball such as the shoulder, elbow, and knee muscles. The joint used in the shoulder muscle is the shoulder girdle and the action you can do is elevation. When bumping a volleyball, the agonist muscles used are the upper trapezius, rhomboids, and levator scapulae. While the antagonist muscles are latissimus dorsi, pectoralis major and minor, serratus anterior, and trapezius. The bones used are the humerus, scapula, and clavicle. The deep muscle group that moves the shoulder are the rotator cuff muscles and tendons. They control our ability to raise our arm from our side (abduction).

The agonist muscles are triceps brachii (long, lateral, and medial heads), supinator, and anconeus. The antagonist muscles are the brachialis, biceps brachii, deltoid (anterior part), pectoralis major, and supraspinatus. It is composed of three bones: humerus, radius and ulna. The primary tendons are the biceps tendons (attaches biceps to radius) and triceps tendon (attaches the triceps to the ulna). The two main ligaments are the ulnar-collateral ligament (inside of the elbow) and lateral collateral ligament (outside of the
Every sport has their own terminology and language that only players of that sport understand. In volleyball it is important to know the terms used. The terminology that a volleyball player first learns are: pass, set, hit, kill, double, serve, and the positions on the court. Every player’s exigence for knowing and understanding the terms is for the player’s and team’s success. Without the knowledge of the terms used, a player will not comprehend what is going on, what plays are being made, or what the referees are expressing.
I became of part of this subculture when I was in 3rd grade, but became a serious
Humerus, Radius, Ulana (arms): To support your wrist and fingers when hitting the ball, it also provides power when hitting the ball.
In this phase the athlete is standing in a neutral position holding the ball. The metatarsophalangeal and interphalangeal (great and lesser toes) are held at slight flexion pressed against the ground by an isometric contraction of the flexor halluces longus, flexor digitorum longus, flexor digitorum longus. The ankle is plantar flexed using an isometric contraction of the gastrocnemius and the soleus. The tibiofermoral (knee) joints are slightly flexed by a isomectric contraction of the quadriceps muscles (rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius). The acetabularfemoral (hip) joint is held at a postion of slight flexion through an isometric contraction of the biceps femoris, pectineus, iliacus, and the psoas. The intervertebral (lumbar) joint is extended by an isometric contraction using the erector spinae. The atlantooccipital (cervical spine) joint is flexed by an isometric contraction erector spinae. Both scapulothroracic (shoulder girdle) joint is protracted by an isometric contraction of the serratus anterior and pectoralis minor. The glenohumeral (shoulder) joint is at internal rotation by an isometric contraction using the pectoralis major, latissimus dorsi, teres major, and the subscapularius. The humeroulnar (elbow) joint is at 90 degrees of flexion by an isometric contraction using the biceps brachii, brachioradialis, and brachialis. The radiocarpal (wrist left and right)
What do you think when you hear volleyball; serve, bit, pass, net and ball. It's so much more than that it's aggression, passion, oomph, uphill battle, and love. At first I thought volleyball was just for fun, but then one day that all changed. "Hurry up and make sure that you have everything you need," my mom shouted. "Okay, I'll be out in a minute," I replied. I promptly jammed my shoes into my bag, zipped it and rushed out my bedroom and down to the front door. My mom rushed in and said, "Let's go." We seemed to accelerate down the road. As we approached the gymnasium the car and dashed into the building. Legion points into the game everyone started to glance around frantically
Triceps Brachii - It's attachments are the Olecranon process, posterior humerus shaft, and infraglenoid tuberical. When it contracts it causes extention.
Volleybrawl, a competitive Student Council fundraising event, is a popular competition where co-ed teams from the boys football and the girls volleyball face off in a friendly showdown. Four teams are formed from the 7th and 8th grades. These co-ed teams then play matches against each other in the popular sport of volleyball. Students enjoy watching and participating in this event, while at the same time raising money for future events and Student Council trips. This competition was held on December 2, 2016 Traditionally, we had the boys compete against the girls, however, every year the girls dominated. So, this year, to mix it up, we decided on co-ed teams consisting of both volleyball and football players on both sides. Students suggested
There are many more terms and concepts in throwing a baseball then the wind-up, cocking, acceleration, and the follow through. There is also the stride, your pelvis, rotation, deceleration, force, gravity, resistance and speed. (Maranowski). Within the shoulder, there are three major bones used. They are the clavicle, humerus, and the scapula. Another major component of the shoulder while throwing is the rotator cuff. The rotator cuff is made up of four small muscles which are the subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and the teres minor. The main responsibility of the rotator cuff is for the stability of the shoulder joint. It holds the humeral head in the glenoid socket during early abduction while throwing. (" biomechanics of," ).
The rotator cuff is a group of 4 muscles, the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, and the teres minor. These muscles helps to lift your shoulder up over your head and also rotate it toward and away from your body. Unfortunately, it is also a group of muscles that is frequently injured by tears, tendonitis, impingement, bursitis, and strains. The major muscle that is usually involved is the supraspinatus muscle. Rotator Cuff Injuries are usually broken up into the following categories.
This was my first volleyball camp at Michigan Tech University this summer and I was ready. Coaches sorted us into teams, taught us some intermediate skills revolving around the technique of the game, and scrimmaging from time to time. My team leader was Ali Gerring, a recent graduate from Kingsford. We did bump-set-spike drills and six different rotations to get ready for our big scrimmage the next day. You could see the sweat glistening on our faces, and smell the hard determination to improve. You could hear players call for the ball at every court yelling, “Mine, mine mine!”
The intended action for the upper part of this muscle is to elecate the scapula and extend the head at neck. The intended action for the Middle part of this muscle is to create elevation upward rotation and adduction of the scapula. The intended action for the lowerpart of this muscle is to create depression adduction, upward rotation of the scapula. Workouts that target these areas would be Barbell Shrugs, Cable shrugs and Dumbbell Shrug.
In the text of Lippert she explains that there are many muscles in the body, but were focusing on just the muscles involved with the elbow. “The brachialis muscles, it has two heads and is located on the arm also knows as just the biceps and its actions are to flex the elbow” 3 (p. 152) “The
To play volleyball you must know the basics and be able to master them. You have to be willing to put in the practice and get along with your teammates no matter what.
The first step is to warm up the arms. Never start hitting with cold shoulders that haven't done anything. You could risk pulling or tearing something, and then you won't be playing volleyball for a while.
Volleyball, one of the world's greatest sports. From the hot and muggy gym, to sweat dripping down each players face, volleyball is not for the faint of heart. This sport requires a single-minded desire: to win. It takes more than just teamwork to win. Volleyball has always been one of my favorite sports. I would always meet a new friend anywhere I would go. Believe it or not these situations are how you could meet your life long best friends.
