3.0 KUALA KUBU BHARU
3.1 Background and History
Kuala Kubu Bharu or the called abbreviation, KKB, where the “Bharu” indicates that this city was founded after Kuala Kubu seemed to be unfit to continue as a town for its severe and frequent flood issue. The city was often considered as a sleepy city in Selangor by the travellers, however, Kuala Kubu Bharu has its origins of history that show an interesting and captivating events for travellers.

Kuala Kubu (Kubu means “fort” in Malay) was the second biggest town in Selangor. A fortress was built in Kuala Kubu before the British colonised the town. This fortress served as a defence for Raja Mahadi and Syed Mashor when they fought against Tengku Kudin’s army during the Selangor civil war from 1867 until 1874.
During the later 19th century, the old Kuala Kubu was placed under administration of the Administrative Resident Sir Frank Athelstane Swettenham, followed by JP Rodger and Edward Maxwell.
