Royal jelly treatments caused significant reductions in serum LDL-C, VLDL-C, TG, TC levels and induced significant elevations in HDL-C level. These results may be due to that RJ decreased gene expression of squalenee poxidase enzyme (SQLE), "key enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis" and also cause decrease in sterol regulatory element binding protein (SREB)-1, which may be a transcriptional factor of SQLE. On another hand, RJ increased gene expression of low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) (Kamakura et al., 2006) or may be a result of lowering very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels due to RJ strongest hydroxyl radical scavenging quality (Guo et al., 2008). Atherogenic index is a predictor of the development of …show more content…

Treatment with RJ induced significant decrease in the level of blood glucose and the treatment with RJ before or after cholesterol caused a significant decrease in the level of blood glucose. This may be related to the antioxidant properties of the RJ which improves insulin levels. This result agreed with Khoshpey et al. (2016) who suggest that RJ intake may have desirable effects on blood glucose and decrease blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes. But, this result is not agreed with Sarita et al. (2011) who investigate the effects of different doses of royal jelly supplementation on blood glucose level in swimmers and conclude that RJ supplementation at different doses did not affect glucose levels Administration of cholesterol to rats caused significant decrease in serum total protein, albumin and globulin levels. These results are is in line with results of Olorunnisola et al. (2012) who showed that there was a significant decrease in levels of total protein, albumin and albumin/globulin ratio in rats which fed on high cholesterol diet when compared to animals with normal diet. This may be due to hypercholesterolemia caused an impairment of liver function and leads to decrease in the capacity of hepatic parenchyma to synthesis albumin which lead to the decrease of serum total albumin and globulin levels (Ghorab, 2014). Treatment with RJ induces a
