Great leaders have vision, they can see into the future and have a clear exciting idea where they are going and what they’re trying to accomplish and they are excellent at strategic planning in getting there. This quality of vision separates them from managers, having a clear vision turns the individual into a special type of person. Personality plays a crucial role for business leaders. Despondencies, strategic vision passion, and people skills are the most important skills leaders to possess. Technology advances and increased public exposure have strongly shaped CEO’s profile over the last five years (Bennis & Tichy, 2008). Mental ships are a great way for leaders to share their experience while getting a fresh perspective from junior colleagues. This paper will discuss about the main leadership effectiveness for performance in excellence to the organization.
Leadership and Quality
The article is by Diane Adams title leadership trumps strategy. In the article, Adams offers examples of top executives who’ve made huge improvements in their organizations by not coming up with these incredible strategic imperative. Strategies that are going to disrupt their respective markets but rather by developing great cultures that alow their teams to be the best they can be. There are two kinds of people in this world, followers and leaders. Followers are the people that never take a leadership role in any activity. "They are more valued by followers and have higher performing teams." (Cherry 2014) However, leaders are the ones that use their leadership skills to make a difference in this world, such as presidents, teachers, or even college graduates. Leadership is not something you can learn from a book, but you have to gain this skill through experiences such as holding an office, organizing an event, speaking in front of people, or participating in a leadership program.
The importance of effective leadership and its impact on improving student achievement are evident in today’s schools (Leithwood, Louis, Anderson, and Wahlstrom, 2004). While the school principal is traditionally thought to be the school leader, Glickman (1989) proposes that “the principal of successful schools is not the instructional leader but the educational leader who mobilizes the expertise, talent, and care of others” (p. 8). Lumpkin, Claxton, and Wilson (2014) contend that helping “each school fulfill its mission and energize and expand the professionalism and professional contributions of teachers, the expertise of all teachers, especially teacher leaders, is needed” (p. 59). Teachers directly impact student learning, and
This paper will analyze the cause of the sentinel event which occurred to Mr. B, a sixty seven year old patient which presented to the emergency room with left leg pain. A root cause analysis will be necessary in this case to investigate the causative factors which led to Mr. B’s sentinel event. The factors in this unfortunate case weather they were errors in his care, or hazards in the system will be identified. The Change theory will be used to develop an improvement plan that will be used to decrease the chances of a reoccurrence of the sentinel event that happened to Mr. B. in the scenario.
Leadership is in many ways a responsibility, whether it’s an appointed job as a leader or a role you find yourself in unexpectedly you must perform adequately not just to accomplish the given task but to also have those following you achieve a given goal. Some are natural born leaders, taking responsibilities for self, never pointing fingers and possessing the ability to find solutions to the obstacles that arise. Others can learn how to lead and achieve the same results. In the medical field, when we look to our leaders it is so that they can lead us to be able to provide and deliver safe quality
Nurses are integral key players in multidisciplinary teams caring for patients in complex healthcare systems. Hospitals, a primary care delivery portal within the health system, are inundated with patients requiring higher acuity care. Nurses must be prepared to recognize patients’ health care needs and provide quality patient care outcomes. The knowledge of nursing sensitive indicators can be helpful in providing the care which meets quality standards. Nursing sensitive indicators rely on evidence-based practice. The American Nurses Association created a repository for implementing, developing, and
A society with an absence of leadership is one that exhibits disarray and pandemonium. Leadership, therefore, is a vital facet of human life and can be seen as a building block from which great nations were built upon or large corporations have thrived under. I believe leadership is intrinsically in all human beings, however some leadership traits in people are far more superior than others. This paper will evaluate results from multiple assessments that identify my particular leadership potential. Using Northouse’s text, this paper will also identify my particular strengths and weakness within leadership. The penultimate paragraph of this paper will consider how my evaluated leadership style interacts within my work environment.
As we know that, leadership is nothing. But the influencing flowers. Leadership includes three fundamental clusters of skills creating vision, garnering commitment to that vision, an managing progress toward the realization of that vision. powerful and effective leaders plays very vital role to reach the maximum production for any organization.
Effective followership is an essential component of effective leadership in that, without good followers, the leader’s work is difficult and cumbersome. The role of the follower is many times understated. As illustrated by Kelley (1998), “effective followers are thinkers; energetic and assertive, self-starters, independent problem solvers, and carry out their tasks with these characteristics (p. 143). Effective followers also are characterized by their ability to perform tasks with little supervision, their intelligence, and ability to think for themselves. We are all followers, even those who consider themselves leaders; so to encourage this effectiveness in others; we must be role models for those under us, so that they may also be effective at following. Chaleff (2009) observed that “all important social accomplishments require complex
One of the most important aspects of leadership is self-knowledge and particularly awareness of your priorities and values. As a leader it is imperative to improve your leadership ability on an everyday basis. Great leaders have great strategic dreams, visions of what could be and what they think should be. In this paper I will be discussing my plan and the theories that support my plan. I will also be discussing my leadership strengths and weaknesses
Creativity is a valuable component of the decision-making process when achieving total quality. Total quality is achievable through a constant value-focused approach. During this process, innovation is critical to successful implementation of change within a facility. Effective leadership plays a significant role in the development of efficient processes, which can create value for the organization. During this type of approach, creativity aids the process by shifting focus to innovative and flexible ideas (Goetsch & Davis, 2014). In order to create sustainability in healthcare, I feel leaders should encompass this approach. Change is unavoidable in healthcare and facilities must be proactive in addressing this change. This can be a change
The article of Leadership That Gets Results provides the six leadership styles for individuals to understand how leadership styles influence on an organization’s climate. Furthermore, the six leadership styles are consisted of the emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and social skill. Therefore, these three concepts, such as the six leadership styles, the elements of emotional intelligence, and an organization’s climate, will influence each other because the research found that individuals with different emotional intelligence competencies will have distinct leadership styles. Subsequently, with the distinct leadership styles, leaders will utilize their own leadership styles to lead their group, team, division, or corporation. Thus, it will bring about a unique impact on an organization’s climate and in turn, on its financial performance (Goleman, 2000, p.79). Moreover, leaders with their own emotional
Leadership involves facets from several different areas of skill. The combination of these traits in an individual allows one to be influential on a group in a positive way. Leadership comes in varying types and styles, no one being more right than the other. Knowing the basics of how to collaborate with and develop your group and how to integrate your style will determine how successful you will be. Throughout SLC, I’ve gained a basis of the common types of leadership, which will lead to better implementation of my own approach towards working with others. Words like morals, ethics, collaboration, relation, and empowerment aren’t just ideas that I know a bit about. They are concrete principles which will help guide my actions in the future.
As per ref (a) the United States Coast Guard defines leadership as “You influencing others to achieve a goal.” Ref (b) defines leadership as “the ability to work through others to accomplish a task.” My definition of leadership is “Things you do to get people to do things”. My definition covers both “good” and “bad” leadership. I feel that I have been influenced equally as much by “bad” leadership as “good” leadership. I have observed as much of what not to do, as what to do. I occasionally find myself compelled to do something that was in the “what not to do” column. I feel that if it was not for the bad experiences I would have had to learn a lot of the “what not to do” lessons on my own.
Leadership is the measure of one’s ability to influence others to work to achieve a goal. I say that it is the measure of one’s ability because, a leader will always be judged and when described, will normally have an adjective prior to the word leader. Some examples are: He was a good leader or He was a horrible leader and could not lead ants to a cookie crumb. Influencing people is the primary purpose of a leader. To influence people, one must realize that every person is different and has their own motivating factors. In order to know what a person’s motivating factors are, a leader must know his people. Though, in this course it is said that the Coast Guard has leaders and managers, I would argue that to be a leader in the Coast Guard, one must also be a manager. A good leader could lead a group of people right off of a cliff, but should be able to manage the situation, circumstances and resources, so as not to lead his/her people off of the proverbial cliff. This can be seen in Leading Chiefs that do not manage their personnel allowance list (PAL), leading their unit into a very unnecessarily difficult transfer season.

The conclusion summarizes all the topics under discussion.
