Let’s Stay Happy
We all have our own ways of interpreting happiness. For some, it is giving and sacrificing whereas for others, it is in some other form of buying or taking. Most of us have a certain mindset as to what happiness means to us. For example, many people enjoy shopping, eating out, etc. This is materialistic happiness. It is concerned with physical comforts or the acquisition of wealth.
True happiness lies in caring for others and, in turn, having others care for you. You may have noticed that when you want something and you get it, that particular thing loses its charm. This is precisely why I believe that instead of buying unnecessary things, we should try and help others out. A single good deed will leave you with a longer lasting sense of satisfaction than when you buy a pair of shoes or a bag. James Van Der Zee says: “Happiness is perfume, you can’t pour it on somebody else without getting a few drops on yourself.”
None of us can be a bag of sunshine and

Find meaning in small things, for example, appreciate all aspects of life; nature, the people around you, and most importantly, yourself. Some people are of the opinion that looking after your own needs and desires means that you are selfish. But that is not necessarily true! We all need some kind of distraction in our lives from the everlasting boredom we mostly experience.
What I mean to say is, learn more about yourself. Think about your positive and negative habits and try to be as good as you can be. Everyone feels frustrated or hopeless in life at some point, but in order to get over this frustration, you need to know yourself. You need to understand what calms you down and also what makes you angry so that you can avoid that situation. For me, music is the best solution. What I have realized is that there is a lot of diversity in music and there is always a certain type of rhythm that will suit your mood at different
Although happiness is not easily defined and it really depends on who you ask and what their degree of happiness is in their life, Gilbert the author of Stumbling on Happiness, explains that experiences might bring more satisfaction than that of durable goods. With this he is simply stating the fact that happiness is dependent the things you do in life and not the objects. It is the time that you share with friends and family what makes life meaningful and that creates happiness. All the objects in the
Success is extremely coveted in the society, however on the path to success, obstacles will stand in the way. Failure is inevitable and the response of an individual towards these obstacles and the failures in their lives determines whether or not they will have success. Failure gives allowance to learn from mistakes and motivates to do better the next time. The Pursuit of Happyness uses lighting, music and camera angles to give viewers an insight into Chris’ journey through the film demonstrating his resiliency, optimism and loving personality. Filmmaker, Gabriele Muccino, uses the protagonist, Chris’ final triumph to illustrate the significance of failure in achieving success.
What makes a person happy? Happiness is an endless path in life. Everyone has a different opinion about what makes them happy. People have always been attentive to the issue of what makes humans happy. However, getting a large amount of money is a pursuit for many people, especially the young generation around the world. In the article, “Get Happy” by Walter Mosley, he states how, “Happiness is considered by most to be a subset of wealth” (87). Quote above explains how money is the first thing that comes in person’s mind that make them happy because with the money one can buy anything he wants. Money is one of the most important things in over lives because we need it to have a home to live in, food to eat, clothes to wear, and to get
People travel through life with what seems like a single goal: to be happy. This may seem like a selfish way to live, however this lone objective is the motivation behind nearly all actions. Even seemingly selfless deeds make people feel better about themselves. That warm feeling experienced while doing charitable acts can be described as happiness. But what is authentic happiness? There is an endless possibility of answers to this question, and man seems to be always searching for the solution. Although one may reach his or her goals, there is always still something one strives for in order to be happy. In the book Stumbling on Happiness, Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert takes the reader through
Happiness is a key to everybodys life. Even the most depressed man on earth has a little happiness deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an everyday basis. There is not one kid who does not get excited over a dollar to spend at the candy shop. What about the feeling of getting a promotion at your job, or even finding the cure for cancer. Being happy is not just healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We strive to find anything that will turn a bad day to a good one. Individuals will compromise to attain their happiness. You can not get what you want without giving something first.
According to the Dictionary, “happiness is the mental or emotional state of well being which can be defined by others. A pleasurable or satisfying experience.”. Of course that’s true, the feeling of happiness is what it’s scientifically defined as, but happiness is much more than that. Happiness could be a certain sound, a smell, even feeling a certain piece of clothing or a thick warm blanket. People spend hours even years trying to work for what they think is happiness. They work for hours to get large amounts of money, but they never find the happiness their looking for. That’s because happiness isn't materialistic, happiness isn't something you can buy with expensive items. Even though some people believe you can buy happiness, that’s
Happiness: a Human Disease -- An Examination of the Allegorical Theme of Existentialism in the Happy Man
What is Happiness? Well, In Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley (great book by the way), the people that lived in this dystopian world, called World State, had a motto/goal that they believed that it provided them happiness; “Community, Identity, and Stability.” Which basically meant that you have no individuality, so that your community has stability. In addition to that, all they did was have sex and drugs which made them oblivious to how their “perfect” society is not so perfect. They also scientifically altered how humans reproduced, so instead of being born from the womb, people were being “born” from tubes, and in those tubes, they prepare you for the job or role you will be forced to do for the rest of your life. The best part? They use

Happiness comes in many shapes and forms. Some people gain happiness by materialistic things. Others gain happiness from “small” things such as hugs, compliments, or even a smile. For me happiness was often materialistic things. I enjoyed getting candy, money, new clothing, and other things along those lines. How naive.
Happiness is a result that we deserved, furthermore, it becomes a motivation for us to keep trying and getting success in life.
Ultimately happiness is something everyone wants to maintain, however some ways are only temporary or don't work at all. For example, people who treasure materialistic things such as clothes, cars and money will only be happy with it for a fleeting time. Materialism has become a substantial problem in society and is one of the reasons people struggle to be constantly happy. This is because people have been taught that success is measured in the amount of money you have and the worth and collection of the things you own. We live
Globalization and the development of technology have provided people with more opportunities to do whatever they want. Because of the choices, people seem to be happier to make their own choices. However, Martin E.P. Seligman, the author of Authentic Happiness, would argue that they are not happy because that kind of happiness does not last long. In his book, Seligman explains that there are two kinds of happiness, pleasure and gratification. He says, “[t]he pleasures are delights that have clear sensory and strong emotional components, what philosophers call “raw feels”: ecstasy, thrills, orgasm, delight, mirth, exuberance, and comfort. They are evanescent, and they involve little, if any, thinking” (102). As he shows, pleasure is
In this essay, I will present to you how happiness conflicts with morality by going through a specific scenario where the likes of two concepts are challenged. In addition, I will alternative endings and translations to this scenario by using the perspectives of Aristotelian and Kantian philosophies along with my own. Moreover, the scenario will challenge your perception of happiness and morality. Morality in a superficial sense is a guide for your behavior and happiness can be seen as satisfaction towards yourself or others. Of course, these interpretations aren’t the words of Aristotle or Kant but as you read the scenario it’s important to keep those light definitions in mind.
It is common sense that all the human beings would like to live a happy life and they will spare no efforts in order to realize the purpose of really living a happy life in the end. However, different people have different definitions toward what a happy life is and they tend to have different standards as for how a life is that can be regarded as a happy life. There is no doubt that people will then try different means in order to pursue a happy life based on their definition toward what a happy life is. Therefore, the following will talk about the pursuit of a happy life from the perspectives of both Dalai Lama in The Art of Happiness and Viktor E. Frankl in Man’s Searching for Meaning, during which the experiences of some characters from the film Forrest Gump will be applied as evidence. Generally speaking, the pursuit of a happy life in the minds of Dalai Lama and Viktor E. Frankl can be achieved via experiencing sufferings and adversity. It is hoped that this analysis can help people understand what a happy is from a different point of view.
