Rupert Goold`s brilliance was on full display the way he was able to make this film Macbeth, a huge success the way he interchanged the play's initial renaissance theme taking place in the 1600s. He recreated the play into a more modern day version, appealing to the viewer's understanding of what's taking place. While the characters conversed with each other in the same old school english wordplay. What I really found fascinating was how Lady Macbeth, played by Kate Fleetwood and her husband Macbeth, played by Patrick Stewart, dramatized their plots to steal the throne. The lust for power portrayed by both creates suspense in the sense that most of their peers were oblivious to their true intentions, as they go on about to eliminate anyones

William Shakespeare’s masterpiece, Macbeth, is a tragedy brilliantly brought to the 21st Century by Rupert Goold. Although Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a play set in 16th Century Scotland, Rupert Goold modernizes the play by changing the setting to a Soviet-styled country and implementing modern elements into the characters and theme. Although Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Rupert Goold’s film adaptation share many ideologies and a general storyline, a difference exists in the setting, the characters, and the overall ambience of the story.

However in Rupert Goold’s film adaption of Macbeth from 2010, which was set in an eastern European country and was view of Macbeth I could not have imagined. I found myself on the edge of my seat even though I had already read Shakespeare’s version of Macbeth, I did not know what Goold would do differently than the original piece and how he interpreted the characters. Rupert Goold’s interpretation of Macbeth does a superior job at showing the audience the characters and their inability to change their essential nature, by using the set and other characters to show their inability to change and to project his views of Macbeth.

One difference between Shakespeare's and Polanski's version is the absence of the scene in England in Polanski's version. In the Original MacBeth, MacDuff goes to England to convince Malcolm to return and fight MacBeth. The scene of the longest of the play; it is very drawn out and lengthy. Macbeth is a play about a Scottish general (Macbeth) who receives a prophacy from three witches that states that one day, he wil become the king of Scotland. This makes Macbeth power hungry so he decides to murder the current king of Scotland, Duncan. As people grow more and more suspicious of who killed Duncan, Macbeth is forced to commit more murders in order to protect himself from being exposed. This leads to him becoming filled with paranoia and guilt, which ultimately is his major downfall. Shakespeare wrote this play in 1606 to make people realize that excessive ambition can have terrible consequences. Both the play and the movie incorporate murders into telling the story of Macbeth, but they do so in different ways.

In the film, the deaths and the violence are shown in a way with more information than what the play describes and it vaguely changes the plots with the showing of these deaths. There were many deaths in the films that were not in the play, but that caught many viewer’s eyes was an onset death that was not portrayed in the film. Roman Polanski depicted the murder of King Duncan outstandingly because the audience never had the feel of how King Duncan was actually killed since it was an offset scene in the play. Also because of the blood and gore, and how it seemed as if Macbeth was actually being pleased by stabbing the King all over his body. However, in the play King Duncan’s death was an offset because Shakespeare could not have done it because King James, who was the king at that time, would not have liked a king being killed on stage.
