For my Media Literacy assignment, I choose one of my favorite television shows “The Night Of “(2016). First aired in the summer of 2016 by HBO/Sky Atlantic and produced by Academy Award winning screenwriter Steven Zaillian and novelist Richard Price, the criminal limited mini-series drama was based on the Britain BBC/Sky Atlantic original mini-series “Criminal Justice” created by Peter Moffat in 2008 (Paskin, 2016). According to the HBO website, the limited movie-series “The Night Of” received five Golden Globe nominations and high ratings among movie critics and viewers as well (Paskin, 2016).
In his article, “How technology created a global village – and put us at each other’s throats,” Nicholas Carr stresses the great changes and transitions that have been made in technology and social networking over the last several years. He comes at this from a very apparent stand point – that the advances that have been made in recent years regarding media communication have not helped society. However, they were originally intended to.
In this assignment one can expect to see the discussions on effect of mass communication on people and

Mass media is an extensive word used for all the forms of technology through which information can be disseminated. In today’s world media literacy has become a very important commodity among our digitally connected society. With so many users connected to social media mediums such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. it is very important that people understand how to properly analyze, evaluate, and interpret media as well as develop the ability to create media. This, in essence, is what media literacy is about and with so many different sources of information streaming through our daily lives all at once, being media literate can not only help us discern actual facts from fiction, but it helps us better understand some of the complex messages we receive from these sources. Have you ever had an original thought? Why do we dress the way we do, watch what we watch or even live the way we do. Through our means of entertainment, it is almost a guide in how one should live their life. With the technology we have in our world we are persuaded to believe what is right and what is wrong. Although we create our own world, our thoughts were imposed upon us since the day we are born. “What if the world is some kind of show. What if we are only talents assembled by the Great Talent Scout Up Above! The Great Show of Life! Starring Everybody! Suppose entertainment is the Purpose of Life,” says Gabler. We wake up in the morning where most of us have a daily routine we go through. Why do we put on
Mass media is a media intended for a large audience. It may take the form of broadcast media, as in the case of television and radio, or print media, like newspapers and magazines. Internet media can also attain mass media status, and many media outlets maintain a web presence to take advantage of the ready availability of Internet in many regions of the world. Some people also refer to it as the “mainstream media,” referencing the fact that it tends to stick to prominent stories which will be of interest to a general audience, sometimes ignoring controversial breaking news. Many people around the world rely on this form of media for news and entertainment, and globally, it is a huge industry.
Since the invention of technologies such as the telegraph, radio and eventually television, which enabled communications “produced at a single source [to be] transmitted to an infinitely large audience” (Fearing, F. 1954), the social impacts of communications via mass media have been a subject of intense research by political and social scientists. This literature review intends to examine the major theories and perspectives on mass media with regard to its impact on society, which existed throughout the 1950’s and 70’s. Special attention will be given to the subjects of human social development, distribution of power, and human knowledge.
