Concealed damages that stem from the overuse of social media continue to be a threat to the modern day developed countries and their citizens according to Sam Sterling in his satirical but eye opening writing, Valuing Social Media. He uses a completely different approach to the matter by using satir to obviously state the fears and troubles that surround online platforms. With thick sarcasm and commentary, Sterling warn the public about the threats that social media impose on its users on a day to day basis and on the effects that our cell phones have on the values of free thinking and being a individualist. Sterling opens the essay by giving a personal account of what it's like to have a device that connects people to the online world.
In this modern age, the majority of society has adapted to social media and the newest technology to fit around our lives. Technology provides tools that are imperative to the making and the use of other tools. It is a tool in itself. Technology is changing rapidly; so rapidly, in fact, there can be cultural gaps between generations. The construction of social media has enabled access to innovative phenomenon, broken barriers, changed our perspectives on ideas, and has even opened doors to new opportunities.
In a study conducted in January 2015, it was shown that 80.7% of Canadians aged 18 to 25 owned a smartphone. By using the population size reported in the Canadian 2011 Census, this gives a general market size of about 5,921,241 consumers nationally. The percentage of millennials who own smartphones is predicted to reach 98.1% by 2018. This would dramatically increase the market by at least 2,000,000 consumers in three years. This age group also uses the most number of mobile applications of all the groups, with an average of 8.88 apps per user, which is ideal since a major component of our product is an application. We chose to use a mobile application precisely because we knew it would be easy for our target market to incorporate it into their lifestyles since they already use so many. For this reason, we believe that our customers will become regular
The usage of media in Non-Western countries has been spreading as technology and social media have become the focus for most teenagers and young adults. Contrary to the assumption that Western countries are the only nations that have a population obsessed with media, statistics have shown that other developing countries are experiencing a significant increase in advanced technology usage such as using smartphones more frequently along with internet usage. For example, Non-Western countries dominate the list of the top five countries with the most internet users. “Social Media Marketing in Foreign Countries and Languages” states that “the top five countries with the highest proportion of
"Today, nearly two-thirds (64%) of U.S. adults own a Smartphone, up from 35% in 2011."(Monica Anderson “6 facts about Americans and their smartphones) This dramatic increase shows just how popular these phones have now become over the past five years. Cell phones offer many advantages to the user such as communication, constant internet access, and the all-in-one device can house hundreds of applications and gadgets. Almost anywhere in the world at any time of the day you can get in touch with
In this world around 17% of the world population or 1.2 billion people are using smartphones & tablets; by the end of 2015 the numbers is estimated to touch 28% or 2 billion. The use of social media is widespread. The idea of one not having social media is absurd to the minds of many. The author of “The 7-Day Digital Diet”, Teddy Wayne, put this idea to the test. Wayne mentions the founder of the Corporate Escape who helps cooperate executives switch to a lower-pressured life. The founder says “The first thing I say is to take the TV out of their home, read one newspaper a week. It’s the same news, repeated every day. Check email maximum, twice a day, and never when you’re right at work — you start reading 300 emails and your day is over.” Wayne struggled but realized in the end how much one relies on social media. The increase of social media is causing negative effects on its users but there are
I chose to do my research paper on social media because I have an interest of the many different ways people can interact with each other worldwide. Whether you live in the United States of America, or in the Middle East, there are many ways we can communicate with one another, with social media being the most popular way of doing so. In this paper I will discuss the meaning of social media, as well as the different types of social media one can use, the purpose of using it, the effects it can have on us, and lastly, who owns these social media sites.
Despite drawbacks in technology upgrade, mobile usage continuous to rise for a variety of reasons depending on age group (Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, 2012). Although the mobile phone market is the most vibrant for the years below 25, its usage is welcomed among all sections of the population from old age to office executives, homemakers and students (Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, 2012). A quarter of the population, aged 18-24 are claiming that mobile phones are more important than TV, MP3 player and games console (Heeks, 2008). While under-25s are seen to use their mobile phones mostly for keeping in touch with their peers, parents use their mobile phones to keep tabs on their children, grandparents use theirs to bridge relationships with their grandchildren and working population use it to co-ordinate office work from home (Kushchu, 2007). It seems appropriate to analyze mobile phone usage with vigor comparable to that given to the internet.
Nowadays, societies have constantly developed and in many countries have transformed into a modern society completely. Human beings invent many technologies to meet their own needs and for society. Technology has created a lot of comfort for humans, but because of this convenience, people are increasingly dependent on technology. The technology that influences humans today is computers, including smartphones. Computers are one of the most advanced technologies that people made. It has a variety of capabilities that can be used in various tasks, learning, searching, entertaining and communicating. That makes computers and technologies come into every place where people live. For example, in companies, employees use computers to store information and to communicate with customers. In schools, colleges, and universities, students use computers to study and research information. In houses, people use computers for entertainment and contact with others, etc. Internet World Stats found that internet users in 2017 reached 51.7% of the total population in the world. The American vision center revealed in the past decade that computer use among children in the United States has become pervasive. Statistics show that 94 percent of American families with children have a computer in their home with access to the Internet. The Nielsen Company audience report reveals that adults in the United States devoted about 10 hours and 39 minutes each day to

To begin, with the introduction of digital information, communication through digital or “online” means has been created as well. This in turn changes the way humans interact and communicate with each other. With this new technology, humans can now quickly and efficiently communicate amongst themselves in a way that was not possible before. An estimate of 2,405,518,376 people use the internet1 (which is approximately double the population of India at the time) 15 with 70% of them using it daily as of 2013.1 This number has only been increasing over time. I.M.S (instant messaging system), social media, amongst other forms of digital information allows people to communicate quickly and in real time. Society has come to the point where people use the internet so that they are, “...no longer bound to long-distance charges”
In the world we live in today everyone is connected to one another through their smartphones and social media, Although this has had positive effect on the world i believe that the negative effects outweigh the positive effects. The extensive use of smartphones and social media have made it harder for students to gather and obtain information due to their dependence on technology to easily gather it for them. Studies have shown that the increased use of social media and smartphone have lead to mental health problem among teens. With everyone so worried about their facebooks and instagrams they haven't been able to learn how to properly socialize with other people. Smartphones and social media have negatively affected students ability to obtain information, alter their emotional stability, and negatively influence their social skills.
People in society nowadays spend most of their time using smartphones to communicate, be entertained and obtained information in their daily life. Texting texting and social media sites have become the means in which people communicate with others. When I was a kid i had a Wii to be entertained, but these days entertainment comes by using a phone, personal device or a consuel can be easily transported, Information is spread within seconds by using social media. As you can see society is overly dependent on technology in using technology in their daily lives for three reasons, because negatively affects children, people are obsessed with buying and using advanced technology, and social media can lead to dangers for the users.
Regardless of your age, gender or ethnicity, you are most probably in possession of a mobile phone. At least this is what has been claimed in a study made by the The World Bank where they declared that, "About three quarters of the developed world’s population have mobile phones.” However, this study merely represents the overall possession of mobile phones, without incisively delineating the dependence on these devices by the different age groups. A study shows that teenagers spend around seven hours a day consuming media by surfing the web and visiting social networking sites. The broadening development of smarter phones is allowing the population to center their media within one sole device, where it is now possible to carry out any task from your phone, whether it involves sending emails, reading a book, or playing a game.
