I believe a classroom should be a sanctuary of learning in which the students know from the beginning what is expected of them and the teacher should discuss what is expected of her as a teacher. There needs to be an understanding amongst all involved with the children education. This understanding can lead to a fun filled adventurous classroom that encourages students to strive for the best. I believe when students and teachers are able to learn from each other, the learning environment can be successful. He understands now why the truck he is playing with is able to move. The child has built a ramp out of blocks in the block center, because he wanted to make his car go up and down the hill. After playing with the car, he looks at the wheel and say, “The wheel is a circle.” He starts to turn the wheel with his finger and he continues to run the car back and forth on his make shift hill. Discovering how objects work is one skill that children possess. By discovering how things work, they develop skills that could last them a lifetime. Learning how batteries make Elmo shake his head or kick his leg up, students learn that batteries make objects move. Observing frog eggs in a creek, can lead to children discovering the life cycle of a frog. Discovering can be a fun way to learn when students are allowed to discover how things work on their own. This skill can be enriched if the child is provided positive opportunities to learn and understand. According to Feeney et al. (2010), Piaget believed that understanding must be discovered and constructed by the activity of the child rather than through passive observation, (p. 145). Teacher-centered classroom can be rewarding to some teachers, but allowing students to learn discover how things work on their own can be very rewarding. The teacher must know how to set the tone for the classroom and ensure that it is a productive learning environment. The teacher wants to avoid anything that would provoke them negatively as well as the students. At the same time, they must know what is needed to reinforce good behavior.
I believe that when students are in a safe environment, learning can take place. This doesn’t necessarily mean punishing behavioral problems but rather a combination of setting the tone in a class. That is, preventing behavior problems with interesting and engaging curriculum and effectively including all students in the classroom so that their needs are met. Having the right environment for all students to learn is a major goal of implementing good classroom management. Without it the students will not be able to learn.
Understanding how students are motivated can help educators engage students in learning activities and ultimately improve their academic performance. Researchers Mandy Sedden and Kevin Clark summarizes students’ and instructors’ perspectives on motivation and explores instructional strategies educators can use to motivate college students (Sedden & Clark, 2016). This journal article discusses the impact student motivation or lack of motivation has on the overall outcome of their educational experience. Sedden and Clark noted that many students of the millennial generation view education as an acquisition rather than a process of learning (Sedden & Clark, 2016). In other words, the thought of the high-paying job or improved intellectual status that awaits after completing school is more alluring than the process of attaining knowledge. According to the research students are intrinsically motivated when the instructor is motivated themselves, the lessons are interactive, the atmosphere is positive and well-organized, and the instructor demonstrates they care about the students.
I believe that children learn best when they are taught under certain conditions and in certain ways. Those include; How teachers teach for example; if the teacher does not ask you questions, and never answers the questions it can cause the children to have difficulties learning. If the teacher does ask questions, and interacts with the children it makes learning a lot easier. the environment of the classroom, and how children interact with others. A positive classroom with positive attitudes means that the children will learn more, and they will learn in a healthy environment. The way they interact with others also contributes to this because they will be doing this for the rest of their lives.

Can you elaborate on what your mean by your statement on staying motivated and how that brings excitement to lesson plans and keeping students engaged? Are you referring to staying motivated yourself in reference to bring excitement into the lesson plans? In other word keeping yourself pump up or motivated for the lessons you will be delivering. If so do you believe that your lessons all need to be exciting and entertaining for each student? Or are you referring to internist or extrinsic motivation for engaging students? If so, how do you tap into what motivates your students especially since each individual student will have their own motivational venue.
It is my strong belief that each child is entitled to a safe, secure, stimulating and caring learning environment. I always believed that each child is a unique individual with much curiosity and many academic, social and emotional needs. Children need our support in order to mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. As a teacher, one should aim to help students in fulfilling their dreams to become successful and educated individuals. We must provide them with a safe learning environment for their learning to succeed.
My philosophy of classroom management is to allow students to be responsible for their own behavior at all times. I believe allowing students to be responsible for their behavior and actions allow them to have a sense of freedom. When students have freedom, they seem to be more successful and respectful. Classroom management is more successful when the class is student-centered. Students should be included in the planning of classroom rules, room arrangement, and communication should flow smoothly between teacher and student. A quote from Brian Whitley, and research author, reveals the sincerity of most students, “On college campuses across the country, legions of students spend their weekends compulsively refreshing their email inboxes, noshing on snacks, and maybe doing a month’s worth of laundry. Shouldn't they be studying? Well sure. They just don't want to”(1). Students procrastinate to do their school work because they have no ambition or drive to want to achieve something. Of course they have long term plans to graduate,get a degree and have a suitable career, but they don't have anything to look forward to in a set amount of time. I know that children learn in many different ways. Observing, experimenting, reading, and listening are a few of those many ways. I have learned that people learn best when the information is something that they are interested in. I am going to strive to make every lesson fun, and applicable to my students. I favor using many methods to teach, including lecturing, cooperative learning, project based instruction, and “hands-on” activities. I want the classroom to be a place that the students enjoy, not a boring place. I believe that every child has an innate hunger for learning and becoming successful. If I can harness their craving and aim it in the right direction, I believe I will be successful in helping these students achieve what they are looking for in life.
I agree with Dottie; it is often hard to get students to see the value of Humanities in their day to day lives. Sometimes "Period Classes", like 20th Century, make it easier to show a student how the class content applies to their day to day lives. A class like "Intro to Hum" applies to their lives in a much more abstract was than a tangible way.
Fostering a classroom environment that is based around a mutual understanding, effective teaching, respect and forming relationships between students, teachers, parents and the community is crucial. Developing a classroom that encapsulates these key factors allows the environment to be beneficial towards students achieving academically and socially, this enables students to be engaged in their learning and in turn teachers are able to share in their enjoyment of the learning experience (Hue, Li, 2008, p. x). “Classroom environments play an important role in student’s motivation, engagement, and achievement at school” (Kaplan, Patrick, Ryan, 2011, p. 367).
Motivating students to work in the classroom is not an easy task to perform. Teachers need to have classroom management and establish a conducive learning environment to meet the need of all students. As an educator, I have experienced that most of the students come to my classroom with a positive attitude and eager to learn while others come with very low self-esteem, not wanting to learn creating disruptive behaviors. In one of the articles assigned this week, it is emphasized that when students are not motivated in the classroom or have a difficult time learning a lesson, they tend to be disruptive in the classroom (Motivating Students, 2016). There is a large amount of research regarding how to motivate students in the classroom. The ways in which students are motivated varies greatly from student to student depending on outside factors such as socioeconomic status, cultural identity, learning disabilities and exceptionalities, and home life. Learning how to best motivate any particular type of student is something that teachers are continuously researching and attempting. There is new and exciting research being released each year for teachers to read up on and experiment with in their classrooms.
