Rap style is music that can represent drugs, sexual promiscuity and alcohol. In the song “Candy Shop” you see sexual promiscuity as the whole song is sexual with some second meaning of lyrics. The video for this song does not hide the meaning as it shows what it really is about. At the beginning of the video shows a person arriving to a mansion in a nice car were is seems he is the person in charge or the person that will get what he wants. The video is very sexual where there are many different girls and at the end it is all a dream. The song starts with a heavenly sound as its starts following with trumpet and finger snapping together. This sound its played in the whole song but in parts of the song that are singing or rapping it lowers the sound so is in …show more content…
In this song it starts with drums that have the same rhythm throughout the song with some added instrument like a trumpet and symbols that play only three times in the song. The DJ scratching can be heard and seen in the video throughout the song I believe there is a synthesizer present in this song as there is sounds that are difficult to grasp. The lyrics of this song has two different stories of a teenager on how parents do not understand teenagers and the things they will do without thinking of the consequences. The first part of the song is about how the teenager want to have his own style and the mother do not understand him and tries to avoid going to school by playing sick but he gives up and stops arguing. The second is part of the song is about him making the mistake of taking his parents car without permission and getting arrested and having the parents get him out of jail and they discipline him in the car by heating him for the mistake he did. The lyrics in this song are constant, there is only two long pause in the song and everything is like he is reading a
This song was written in strophic form. Strophic forms are found in pop music or folk music because all of the verses of the text are sung to the same music. This is also known as chorus form. The way to know that you listening to strophic form is to focus on what’s changing when there’s musical repetition. What you will notice is that the melody would repeat throughout the song but the lyrics would change.
Hip-Hop culture objectifies both men and women as both violent and aggressive and very sexual beings. For women, it shows them as simply sexual objects, whether it be half naked in music videos dancing in a sexual manner or through the lyrics which talk about the plethora of women these men have had sexual relations with. For men, it shows this hyper masculine misogynistic aggressive male body displayed in the video as well as in the lyrics with multitudes of underdressed women in the background dancing often being groped without any actual consent. This sends the message that women do not have avoice and are simply there to please the
Rap shows them how women and men are both sexualized within this specific genre. This provides an insight to me, showing me why people can view hip-hop music as aggressive music. After doing research, this book helped me see a different perspective on hip-hop music. In making this comment "We live and breathe in a world that normalizes sexism. But this does not excuse it, nor can reproducing it with constituency to anything but replace it.
The Nutcracker had a wide variety of instruments it consists of 2 or more harps, double basses, cellos, violas, violins, a rattle, 2 trumpets, cymbals, 3 flutes, 2 piccolos, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, a bass clarinet, 4 horns, 2 bassoons, 3 trombones, a tuba, a tam tam, a military drum and a glockenspiel. Two large elements that are unique to this piece are the style of the music and the dynamics. The style of the music because, the song was unique for Russia and added a tint of joy to the cymphony. Other songs of that time were focused more on bass depth more than pleasure to the youth. Dynamics because, it features sudden high pitch at little notice and unexpected low pitches.
In the rap world it's nearly impossible to avoid the topic of sex. Lyrics like, "I'll take you to the candy shop, let you lick the lollipop" (50 Cent) are not even close to being about going to a candy shop or enjoying a lollipop. These lyrics by 50 Cent are a clear representation of the themes in many hip-hop songs. " The Year Hip-Hop Invented Sex" written by Megan Carpentier in 2010, talks about the transformation of hip-hop music from the “Dark (Orgasm Free) Ages”(Carpentier 226) to what this genre of music is today.
I don’t remember if you told me about the Moldy Peaches. I don’t really know anything about them. Although, their sound seems familiar. Didn’t they get famous for one of their songs that was used in Juno?
The song "The message" by Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five depicts the struggle of young black adults growing up in society. The struggle to make it out of poverty can be compared to survival of the fittest in a jungle. Only the strong would survive and adapt to the changes to fit in. Trying their best to make a betterment with whatever little society offers. Being a young black African American in the early 1980's was not easy. It was easier to live the fast life and gain fast money by being part of the drug community. Drugs, guns, and money was glamorized and this is what the young adults looked at as a means of getting rich. In the songs, a young man talks about how he is trying hard to hold on to the little bit of sanity he has left in his soul. He talks about the struggle he endures while trying not to get pushed over the edge. He was born an innocent child who's blind to the ways of mind kind. Growing up he faced many challenges and had to fight
Young people would perform, listen to, play hip hop music videos in the hallway TV at Malvern-Work, Poetic Justice, Started From the Bottom. When I would pass by the computer lab I would see many young people often on ‘World Star Hip Hop’ (an American content aggregate site with a hip hop focus often referred to as the ‘ghetto’s CNN’). This is just one of the many ways hip hop culture was pervasive in these young people’s lives. One of the most pervasive forms of artistic expression I found among young people was through rap. Rap is a mixed medium; it includes poetry, prose, song, music, theatre. It can come in the forms of narrative, autobiography, science fiction, or debate. Hip hop encompasses five core elements: emceeing/rapping, deejaying, graffiti art, break dancing, and ‘knowledge of self’ or the critical
The song starts out full and lively. It sounds like there are several horns, bass, drums and
It conveys a message saying no one will ever be better than men. This shows lack of value towards women by dressing them in provocative clothing in the entire video. While 50 Cent, is the only man you see the majority of the video being flirty and pampered by beautiful women. This is a good example of the stereotypical dominance men versus women. When people first watch a video they will most likely watch the video and see if the idea of video and the song really do find a connection to develop the message that Curtis Jackson and
At first listen, Mystery Song Three was unlike anything I had ever heard. I knew it was loud, I knew it was aggressive, and that was about it. We were challenged with analyzing a mystery song by defining its structure, basic description, expression, and historical and cultural context. Even without knowing anything about the song, you can find these elements just by listening to it.
Rap is a genre of music that was born in the 1970, in the streets of the Bronx, New York as a tool of expression from the African American and Latin American community. The musicians of these community during that time considered themselves an oppressed minority, so they started to express themselves freely through rapping to speak up about the current issues that were plaguing their society, such as stereotype, police brutality, violence, discrimination, gangs and crime, among others. The main objective that rap singers had was to propose solutions to those problems and motivate their audience to get rid from those issues because it harmed their community and it create an unhealthy environment for them. Rap music started to called the attention of a lot individuals, and especially young people, because they felt identify with their
With the release of The Thrill of it All Sam Smith continues to impress audiences with his otherworldly vocals that gets the toes tapping and the fingers snapping. This album is a prime example of what Sam Smith is all about with its ¨dance and cry songs¨, as he says, and the variety of soul, pop, and R&B music. Sam uses these musical practices in all of his songs in the album, which are mostly about heartbreak and bouncing back, with the occasional sit back and drink song. The variety of the songs is not very large but the lyrics are all so different and powerful that you can get hooked very easily. The major theme that is impressed upon the listener is that Sam has had a terrible love life with heartbreak and despair.
There is a message behind every song and behind this is an artist relaying a message to an audience. Whether the message is positive or negative a message is still being given. Today's hip-hop is a lot more mainstreamed and it usually embraces the consuming of luxury items and symbols of success and status. Materialism is now a central message within hip-hop and although it does not represent hip-hop as what, it receives the most attention. Some themes represented in mainstream hip-hop becomes very problematic and in the outlook of young
sometimes musicians and songs seem like they live forever. ever wonder how a song from the 80's still get talked about or played on the radio. musicians of today have gotten into a new musical writing process called remixing. they can take an older song, one that was popular during a certain twists they may be famous or well known
