Halloween Night
On an unusually warm fall day walking through the fallen burnt orange and bright yellow leaves, listening to them crunching under my feet. I suddenly stop and I have this feeling of being watched. It’s a feeling I’ve been experiencing for a couple days now. It’s not a good feeling, having to watch my back and constantly looking around. It is creepy not knowing what could be behind you or around the corner. I sped up and starting walking faster home. Finally I walk through my front door, slam it and lock the deadbolt. Wheeeeew a huge sigh of relief, “I’m safe for now” I sighed uneasily.
My phone rings and startles me, Emma’s calling, “Hello Emma, what are you up too?” “Just wondering if you will come and help decorate my

I pound my fists on the door screaming “open the door, open the door Emma, hurry!” All I hear is my heart beating so fast and white noise I was so terrified. “Oh my god Alana, what is wrong!” Emma shouted with fear in her voice as she’s pulling the door open. I fell on the floor and Emma closed the door and locked it. Emma kept asking me “what happened Alana, what happened, are you ok?” “Someone was behind me, stalking me slowly. I heard them!” I stammered. Emma looked out her window “I don’t see anyone or anything but a cat out there Alana!” I got up off the floor, looked out the window with hesitation for a few seconds and saw the cat. Then I laughed and thought to myself could it have been just a cat? Am I being paranoid? Or is someone watching me and following me? “Come on let’s start getting the party set up Alana.” Emma said while pulling my arm towards the basement. “Ok” I said as I was looking back at the door thinking about what just happened. “Let’s get in a better mood and lighten things up a bit!” Emma turned on the radio and started pulling out all the bags of decorations we had. We had set up the tables and chairs, apple bob, prizes for the costume contest, and the whole basement decorated. It looked really great, streamers, balloons, mummies, fake blood, and pumpkins everything was done. We stood at the basement stairs to look at our work. “Looks amazing Emma, we did a good job together.” “Yeah it does we really knocked it out
Halloween. As a kid you see it as a chance to play dress up and a game of who got the most candy. As a teen, you see it as a game of who can host the best party, find the scariest people, or find the scariest places. Lucky for me, I won the unspoken teen game, all on Halloween night.
In “The Hallowe’en Party” by Miriam Waddington and “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, symbols are used to illustrate the different themes that make appearances throughout both narratives. In “The Hallowe’en Party”, there is an underlying message of hope that is conveyed at various points, though the most prominent is when the farm land is introduced. As an immigrant, Mr. Luria was likely nervous and scared about the idea of moving to a new country that was completely different in terms of society and culture. Despite this, he was determined to settle in Canada which would explain his need to “… [search]… for landscapes that were like his old home” (Waddington). He found a piece of Russia in the farm land
After deep thought and an hour of wasted time consisting of snapchatting and laying in various parts of my room, Lily suggests that we go down to The Dollar Tree and get some funny, random toys to quench our desire to do something, anything! I lived on the corner of Lindsay and Brown and the dollar store was located on Lindsay and University, so the mile distance was a short, doable journey. On our way back, our new-bought silly string in hand, Lily and I ran ahead of the three others that accompanied us, and we headed back to my house. When we arrived home, we hid behind the pillars and patiently waited for the others’ return. As we could hear their voices morph from a slight mumble into a real conversation, we jumped out and surprise attacked the girls with a silly string invasion. What Lily and I thought to be a harmless, funny act, really upset the three of them, especially Rachel. They would not come inside my house and insisted we go away from them. As me and Lily now sit in my room laughing and trying to forget about the drama that was on the rise, I began to hear scurrying noises downstairs accompanied by “oh my gosh” and “she’s gonna be so mad”. I walked out of my room to find Rachel covering my house with the purple slime she bought at The Dollar Tree. Everywhere I looked, it was there: rubbed into the hallway carpet, spread down the walls, down the laundry shoot, on the towels, and in the refrigerator, as if it were rapidly multiplying throughout my house. It was something out of a cartoon and I couldn’t believe this was actually happening. I know we were young and immature, but this took it to a new level, and I couldn’t contain my anger. Tears automatically came running down my face as I knew I’d be dead when my parents came home. “Get out of
After a few more minutes of waiting Anna decided to get out of bed and walk down to the food court to see if her father was there. After getting out of bed, Anna found a note taped to her father’s chair that she hadn’t seen before scripted in scribbly letters saying Based on your actions he might come back don’t tell anyone about this and he will come back unharmed. Anna hurriedly found the bag of her clothes that her mother had delivered overnight and pulled on a hot pink mini skirt and a white long sleeve crop top. After getting dressed Anna opened her door and stepped outside, there was no one anywhere to be seen. She continued to walk down the hall and there was still no noise and no one in sight. She walked straight to the elevator and went down to the first floor where the food court should be, but there was no one there either, the hospital had been abandoned and she was sure that the songbook and the object that played her melody the night before were somehow behind it all. She ran back up to her room as carefully as she could trying not to hurt her arm, and once she arrived at the door she grabbed the music book off the desk beside of her bed, tried to flush it down the toilet, and stuffed her cell phone in her bag of clothes that her mom had bought. She was about to pick up her bag when she heard a new melody right outside of her door. La, La, La, La, La, La. La, La, La, La, La. La, La, La, La, La. La, La, La, La, La, La, La. She wanted to see what was making the noise so she carefully opened her door and peeked through the opened crack. There nothing was there! She grabbed her bag of clothes and ran down the steps as quickly as she could but then she heard a voice behind her, “Aaaaannnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaa!!!!” the voice moaned “Aaaaannnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaa it isn’t safe at your house!!!!” said the voice. She spun around and saw a scrawny old man
Suena was walking home and she felt like she was being followed, but she thought it was because of the horror movie she watched the night before. It was about a twenty minute walk for Surena to get home and she often enjoyed but that day she didn’t enjoy it. When she got home there was a note on her fridge from her mother saying she’ll be back in a couple of hours and that there was leftovers in the fridge. She still had that icky feeling that someone was watching her, she kept saying in her head that it was just the horror movie scaring her. Her dog Belle was eating the couch again, when her mom got home she’d be mad. Surena went up stairs to her bedroom and forgot to lock the door that day, when her mother warned her many times before to
One night on Halloween, when Jeannette was only ten years old, she felt someone run their hand over her private parts. At first she thought it was Lori moving in her sleep, but then she heard a man speak. She yelled and Brian came running into their room with a hatchet that he kept by his bed and the man ran out the unlocked door. Their dad was not home that night and their mom was a very deep sleeper so Jeannette and Brian chased him down the street. A few weeks after the Halloween incident, their dad thought that the kids were getting used to city life too much so he took them all to the zoo for the first time. They made their way over to the cheetah exhibit. The author’s dad stepped over the chain and went by the fence opposite
Ashley repeatedly screamed, over and over again. She did not know if she would die or if she would make it out alive anymore. She doesn’t know what day it was, nor why it happened. But all she knew was that It wasn’t a maniacal serial killer or kidnapper that took her. It was one of her best friends. The only questions left is, Which one? moreover, Ashley was tied to a pole in a dirty, dark, and wet basement. She heard the door to the basement open and there stood the person who’d taken her. She was abruptly silent before asking “Why did you kidnap me? Why are pretending to help find me? why?”. After a brief pause the person said “because you deserve this” the person slowly walked up to Ashley and kneeled down before proceeding “Everything that happens to you from now on…you deserve it”. “What did I, ever, do to you, to deserve this? what Mycah?!” I, however, jolted awake from my nap, realizing that I was still in 2nd periods’ math class. “What’s with you Jordan?” Brittany asked. “what? oh nothing, just a weird dream is all” I said before finishing my math
No sounds come from inside the home. Just the twinkling of the stars overhead, and my breaking into someone’s home. Perfect. Nothing unusual here. It’s eight p.m. on a Friday night, and the entire house is pitch black. Hopefully, that means the bastard isn’t home. Nobody goes to bed at eight, right? He has to be out, probably cracking up over the girl dumb enough to lose her family’s heirloom. I heave the window the rest of the way up cringing at its squeal. I go completely still, gulping down breaths to stay quiet. My heart nearly
And when I thought my day couldn't possibly get any worse, it did. Right after I sat down in the cafeteria and started eating my lunch, that stupid Phyllis sat down beside me. ¨I can't believe you cried in the middle of class. You are a crybaby,¨ she says. ¨I wouldn't have done it if you could have remembered the sweater was yours. My birthday wouldn't be ruined!¨ I say. ¨I knew it was mine the entire time! Sylvia and I set this up weeks ago! We just wanted to see you embarrass yourself in front of everybody,¨ she replies.
Emily was getting coordinated tomorrow! “ Alright Emily how the dress feeling?” Alexandria, Emily’s mother asked. “Fine.” Emily responded. “ ok. I’m going to go out and get some last minute things done in town, bye” Emily’s mom said as she was walking out the palace's door. “ ok you can get out of the dress now” the dress lady told her. “ It’s time for dinner” another maid said. Aß mily rushes to go chang. “ Dad it’s 8: 20 shouldn’t mom be home for dinner by now?” Emily asked worriedly. “ Oh I’m sure she’s just running a little late, let’s go ahead and start eating she’ll come back tomorrow” her dad said with a slight bit of fear in the tone of his
“… But’s that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything I knew and loved was gone…” Alice Bell, a sixteen-year-old who’s life wasn’t like a typical sixteen-year-old. Normal sixteen-year-old would be out with friends, at parties, having boyfriends, ex boyfriends. But that wasn’t the case with Alice; her over protected father was very strict with her. Alice and her only sister, Emma, weren’t even allowed to be outside when dark approaches. Her dad would patrol the surroundings of the house, with a rifle in hand, and scanning every movement. Her dad talked about the “monsters”, that these “monsters” would feed on you, infect you, and kill you. She thought her father was a lunatic. Although Alice has yet to see the “monsters”, her father did. But the night of her sixteen birthdays, Alice
As I was walking back from school with my friends, Will and Alex, we were talking about what we were going to do tonight for Halloween. The teachers seem to be really concerned about us, telling us not to go by ourselves but rather go in big groups or with our parents for trick or treating, like were 13, we can handle ourselves. Mr. Robert our history teacher was telling all the kids that he hates Halloween because it symbolizes the devil and demons. He was yelling at another student, I forgot her name but she was saying that she was going to dress up as the devil and try to summon other demons he was not having it, he kicked her out immediately. As she was leaving she said something weird speaking gibberish something like “Ligandum eos

“So kids, every Halloween, it is said that her ghost, roams the empty hallways of this very school, searching for another female student to take her place.” The students were now on the edge of their wooden seats, eyes wide, listening to every word Mr. Morris said. All of a sudden the loud bell breaks the silence, making each one of them jump.
The coating of snow on the ground glistened in the moonlight, making it easier for her to see. She followed the footprints in the snow towards the Oak tree, leading her to the little steps going deep underneath the big tree. The steps are so well hidden that you and I would never find them. She reached the bottom and saw a light underneath the door. She pushed the door open and squeezed through the hundreds of tiny tins of paint stored in the room ready for spring. Mustard Custard was in the corner making paint brushes from twigs and the fur the rabbits, gave to them when they shed their winter coats. “Where is everyone?” said Sky, “Err not quite sure” said Mustard Custard. “Close the door please Sky the wind is blowing this rabbit hair all over the place”. Sky closed the door. “I’ll help you if you like” she said. Mustard Custard moved up the bench to make way for Sky, and together they finished making the brushes. When all the brushes were put away, and Mustard Custard had tied up the bench, he turned to Sky and said “Right shall we go now?”, “Ok” said Sky, but as she was putting the leaf coat on, all the other Podgers jumped out from behind the pots of paint “SURPRISE” they shouted “Happy Birthday Sky”. Jed and Binky ran towards her carrying a big birthday cake, made from the finest pea pods and decorated with pine cones. “Oh” cried Sky, “It’s my birthday, I forgot, I wondered where you all were” “Thank you it is
