Jonah seemed to favor his teacher, Ms.Carwell. Jonah would often ask his teacher to come to his home for a visit. Ms. Carwell never visited Jonah’s home (at least not during my observations or to my knowledge) so Jonah would frequently remind his teacher that she still had not come to his house. Jonah was never mad or upset when he reminded his teacher to visit him rather his tone suggested that this was simply a fact and she should visit as soon as possible. Jonah is confident when interacting with others. He approaches others and initiates play. I did not witness any aggression towards his fellow classmates during my observations, in fact, jonah is very gentle and considerate towards others when it time to play and share with others.Jonah
One of the traits jonah shares with mrs. Hodge is the ability to think under pressure. Mr. Hodge shows this trait when he was trapped by the kids in the cave he was calm in saying “ you can come to the future it is better and you don’t have to be split from your family members.” pg. 268 This actually made jonah think twice about his decision. Jonah has this trait also when he was trapped in the cave except, when mr. Hodge had the control. He was tied up and any normal kid would have gave up but not him. He knew he had soe allies on the inside of their group so he asked “can I please speak with only one person maybe her” pg. 278 she was his allie.
~The kids at school have been raised to be cruel to new students, instead of helping them settle in and becoming friends. “That first September four Duvitches—Irving, Benny, Abe and Esther— registered at the local grammar school. Mrs. Lovejoy, the principal, said they were bright, conscientious, pathetically eager but almost pathologically shy. Before she could put a stop to it, some of their classmates scoffed at the leaf, lard and black bread sandwiches they ate for lunch, huddled in one corner of the recreation room, dressed in their boiled-out ragpickers’ clothes. After school they headed straight for home, never lingering on the playground.”(page 4)
"Come with me if you want to live," was all that Arnold Schwarzenegger said in his movie Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and after reading Daniel Quinn's masterpiece Ishmael, one might well receive the impression Quinn echoes such sentiments. Few books have as much relevancy in this technological, ever-changing world as Ishmael.
The narrator of the story sees an advertisement put up by a teacher who was looking for a student interested in saving the world. This upset him because he spent years when he was younger looking for a teacher with the same interest. The narrator goes to the address on the advertisement even though he thought it was a hoax. He lands up in a large, almost empty office which eventually leads him to another room where he finds a gorilla sitting. He then hears a voice communicating with him in his head which he realizes is the gorilla talking to him telepathically. The gorilla, named Ishmael tells the narrator about his life. He was captured from the West African jungles and taken to the United States and kept in a zoo. He was then sold to a travelling circus during the Great Depression. He found out he was called Goliath and thought about his disappointing life in captivity.
Jonah a boy about thirteen years old was to have his Bar Mitzvah the day following the service I attended. This event allowed me to observed a slightly different service. During this service I could observe how Jonah and his family were made to be part of the service more actively than the rest. Their attire was extremely formal, they were sitting on the front, and both Jonah and his older sister were made to lead prayer. Jonah particularly was made to lead the service several times. At the
By the time he was 10 Dayluis was far from the little boy who looked back at his mom to wonder if he was doing alright or that baby that started crying when I left the room. He became more autonomous and established healthy relationships with everyone in his life from teachers to classmates. At this age he has a best friend among a larger group of friends that he enjoys hanging out with. As he is going to progress from elementary to middle school he has concerns about some things he’s heard the bigger boys do to the smaller ones like put them in trash cans. With my assurance and eventual experience, he realized his concerns were unfunded and does well with the transition into middle school. One thing that is most definitely new is Dayluis’ interest in girls, this leads him to want to dress “cool” and care more about his appearance, he does chores around the house to be able to buy clothes he likes and expresses interest in video games with racy images of women. Additionally, he starts to lack confidence in himself when it comes to doing well in school. Growing up he was always an intelligent child that performed adobe average in most school subjects, as he matured cognitively he became increasingly smarter and
Zach was probably the kid I connected the most with. He is going into fourth grade and he’s very bright! He got all As and Bs this year but shared with me that he needs to work on his behavior. He finishes his work a lot faster than the rest of the class and gets bored waiting for everyone else to catch up, so he starts talking. His third grade teacher would simply yell and make him sit out at recess the first half of the year. Then she caught on to what was happening. She started giving him tasks to do once he finished his work. Like running errands or going to help the librarian for a few minutes. She discovered a temporary fix that made Zach feel important. But he soon grew bored of the simple, repetitive
Jonah may be the messiest, but he cares for the boys and wants to make sure, they are always safe.
I chose to base my studies on J because we shared a lot in common; we are both Christians living in a predominantly Muslim country. He is eleven years old. His parents are Jordan nationals who have lived in Bahrain for at least two years. J goes to school at Naseem International School where I work. The school offers PYP programs. Lessons are conducted in English; however, Arabic lessons are also offered per week. Majority of kids in this school are Muslims most of whom are Bahrainis. Other nationalities making the student population are Saudis, Lebanese, Jordanians, few South Africans, and other Arabian Gulf countries. Teachers are a mixture of nationalities. Some of them are Arabs, others South Africans, while some are Europeans.
Have you ever encountered a child with similar concerns as James and wondered why they behaved differently than other children in their age group. Numerous parents, educators
Mrs. L shared that he eats alone, but during recess he does have one friend he will play with basketball or soccer. Currently, his friend Daniel is the only student in the school that will play with him. Daniel attend the learning center together and both have Mrs. F as their general education teacher. Mrs. L. mentioned that at times the boys do argue with each other because they spend a long period of time together. Another area of concern Mrs. L has for Richard is his constant need to please others. Richard is an interactive student and wants his peers to welcome him when he tries to play with them. When his peers are welcoming to Richard, he tries to please them as best as he can. Richard will imitate his peers behavior or he will join along to what they are doing. His limited social interaction is a concern that Mrs. L wants Richard to continue to develop and limit bullying situations from occurring
Figure 8-6 shows the biblical episodes of the story of Jonah. To the left you see the sailors threw him from his ship and on the right he emerges from the whale that swallowed him. Figure 8-7 shows Christ as the good shepherd, whose powers of salvation the painter underscored by placing the four episodes of the Jonah story around him (Gardner's pg. 238).
2. Background and Introduction: Jonah was instructed by God to go to Nineveh and preach the message of repentance to them.
Observations for Jose took place on his science and math classrooms respectively. At the beginning of the class, the teacher asked a question to the group, Jose raised his hand to answer. He remained quiet on his desk while teacher explained the lesson in detail to the whole class. During the rest of the class, he remained seated on his desk and participated in the discussion at the proper time. The teacher showed a video to the class and asked some questions, most of the class tried to answer them, but Jose didn’t seem interested as he was with his head down on his arms. Next Day during the math period, students were working in small groups. Jose actively participated in the class discussion. He reviewed his paperwork with his peers and asked a few questions to the teacher’s assistant. Jose followed the teacher commands until the class finished. During the interview process, Jose mentioned that his favorite subjects were reading and science, conversely the subject that gives him most trouble is English because kids in the class laugh at him. Jose thinks that learning is natural for him and he can complete assigned works but doesn’t feel being as smart as the other students. When with his friends, he likes to hang out, play games and soccer. About his other classmates, he stated not getting along with them because they are always pushing or tickling him. Jose reported having no problems with the teachers or at school in general. On weekends, he usually enjoys of playing with
