This semester, I aimed to drink 8 cups of water a day and practice yoga twice a week. Did I fail? No. Did I succeed? No. I chose easy habits to stick to, and I found that I still had a hard time sticking to them! The yoga habit was easier to stick with than the water challenge. I found it significantly easier to find the time to do yoga than I found it to drink water, especially on the days when I was busy. For the success of my yoga habit, I would give myself a 5 out of 5. I met my goal, and practiced yoga at least twice a week during every week of this assignment. For my water-drinking goal, I would give myself a 3 out of 5, because I could never maintain a streak of drinking 8 or more cups of water for more than 3 days. Overall, I would rate myself as a 3.5 out of 5 for the success of my healthy habits, because my main goal was to drink more water. As you can see on Graph 1, there is a pattern linked to my water-drinking: on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, I was typically able to drink my 8 cups of water. But on the weekends and Mondays, it was significantly more difficult. I think it is because on Tuesdays and Thursdays I have a 3-hour break in between my classes that I use to study. I can just fill up my water bottle and go. I often end up refilling my water bottle during that 3-hour study period. On Fridays, I just bring water with me to my practicum school and I end up drinking the right amount of water. But I work on the weekends and, as I discussed in my
In life, many people participate in various daily events and activities that help them enjoy being who they are. People may enjoy getting together with friends, going to the mall, going to an amusement park or simply finding relaxation in nature. However, a big part of everyone’s life is of course eating and many people find pleasure in doing so. Eating is a very enjoyable and delectable must for everyone but should be done so, like everything in life, in a smart and intelligent way. Being smart and perceptive when eating is a large part of nutrition.
Since, I have been working on my fitness and health goals over the last year, I of course have needed to start drinking more water. Yet, I still have not been able to get myself to drink the daily-recommended amount of water. Therefore, there are a number of reasons that support my reasoning for wanting to increase my daily water intake. For instance, I want to incorporate drinking more water, because I know that it plays such an essential role in a persons overall health. Changing this behavior will ultimately benefit me in now and in the future. Also, not drinking enough water fatigues the body and muscles, especially for those that are actively exercising. Since, I have been incorporating more exercise into my daily routine, it is important that I also incorporate at least the recommended daily water intake if not more. Another significant factor is that water is essential to organ health and function. Therefore, in order for my organs to function properly I must be consuming the proper amount of water. That is why, I would like to make this behavior change in my life now, so that I could live a long and healthy life. As I reflect back on the experiences I encountered while trying to change my water consumption, I have to admit that overall I had a positive experience. I learned a lot about myself, and my own personal
To determine the level of my fiber intake from a 3 day sample of my diet, I performed a Prospective Diet Analysis. On average, I consumed 22.3 grams of fiber, just missing the recommendation of 25 grams. Coherent to the findings of the related studies, my cholesterol intake decreased and by the third day totaled 124.5 mg, which relates to 42% of the Daily Recommended Intake of 300 mg.
Nobody likes feeling like the outsider, whether it be the third wheel at the movies, looking physically different than everyone else, or in my case being the only one at a yoga class that doesn’t know what on earth is going on. While at SDSU, I decided I wanted to branch out and take as many opportunities as possible and try something new. There are many different activities that students can be apart of at SDSU, and a yoga class is one of them. Why not take a yoga class where I can feel physically active and good about myself for trying to not gain the freshman fifteen? Why not try something new and exciting that I have never done before? Why not make a fool of myself feeling like everyone is staring at me saying, “What is she doing?” Well, after taking the class I could find a few reasons why it may have been a poor decision; however, there are a lot of reasons why it was a great new experience that I would definitely try again.
I want to continue drinking more water every day rather than drinking a lot of sodas, because I felt a positive change in my body within the first two weeks of tracking my behavior change. Being in a better mood and having more energy has allowed me to accomplish, without getting tired, more in one day than I have since I was a little child. Before this behavior change project, I always told myself that I needed to drink more water because I know that it is better for me than sodas, or other drinks with a lot of sugar in them. Although I did not completely reach my long-term goal of drinking eight glasses per day, I still feel very accomplished and proud of myself. I was able to get up to drinking seven glasses of water per day rather than only drinking water when I ran out of sodas in the refrigerator. Without completing and reaching all of my short-term goals, I most likely would not have gotten so close to my long-term goal of drinking eight glasses of water every

Previously discussed was a study centered on professionals using yoga as a technique for improving relationships with their patients, but this study emphasizes the importance of having compassion for yourself. In Newsome et. al (2012) study, thirty-one college students about to enter helping professions, including counseling, nursing, teaching, etc., attended a 6 week long mindfulness group which included mindful yoga. This research showed that after 6 weeks, the students' perceived stress levels had decreased and their mindfulness and self-compassion significantly increased. After the intervention, participants' feelings and thoughts pertaining to the impact of mindful yoga were recorded. One student claimed, "I am beginning to have more

Independent variable: Intervention, measured at two levels (yoga and standard physical therapy) and time, measured at two levels (pre and post five weeks); dependent variable: WOMAC scale, measured at two levels (group and over-time).
Yoga has been associated with stress. The larger the amount of stress a person has, the less likely that person is to feel in control of themselves and their surroundings. Yoga has also been linked to a person’s health and wellbeing. During a one week experiment, a researcher did yoga once a day at 7:00 pm for a half hour. A survey was taken twice, in hour intervals, after the yoga session was completed, at 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm. The surveys are what was used to find the data that created the results of the experiment. One type of yoga, integrated yoga, was used throughout the week. The results concluded yoga helps relieve stress for one hour after the session was completed, but was stressed again shortly after that hour was finished. Different styles of yoga classes could be offered and more times could be made available at the Elmen Center. Yoga is currently offered at 4:30 pm in the Back Alley, but more class times could be 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm. Different styles include hot yoga, iyengar yoga, or hatha yoga. To improve evaluations, a person could add questions about their level of stress before and after the yoga class. These improvements will allow researchers to see if the results are true for the majority of people.
In Hinduism, yoga is a practiced art form to connect with oneself spiritually. Yoga means union, which means a union with oneself spiritually, through activity. Yoga was practiced by monks and spiritual leaders in India to become and or reach enlightenment. Yoga not only can help students become more spiritually enlightened, yoga can help students reach a level of intentionality, presence, and connection with oneself and the world. However, in today’s society where everyone is looking to have the most materially and to be the most attractive, yoga has been watered down by most people; consequently, becoming a form of physical activity to be the best looking, without the thoughtfulness of the spirit.
From Graph 3 and 4, the deviation is 0 for both frequency and duration in week 1 and 3, hence I achieved my goal. In week 2, the deviation is -2 days and -35 minutes because I did yoga for only 3 times and spent only 40 minutes practicing yoga. Behaviour response in week 2 is lower than week 1 and 3, however, the deviation still shows the improvement from the baseline.
What is yoga to you? Most people would say it’s a form of exercise, or maybe some would say it will improve your flexibility. Well to Natalie Bell it’s so much more than that. Natalie sees yoga as a way of life, as a form of spirituality and becoming one with the body and mind, and of course it keeps her flexible and in shape as well. I met Natalie through my mother she is her friend and yoga instructor and a very interesting person who I wanted to learn more about. I was curious what would interest someone in a life dedicated to yoga, and how exactly one becomes a yogi or master of yoga and gets into teaching it. I learned that Natalie took a 500 hour course in the Yoga Teacher Training program at the Therapeutic Approach Yoga Studio located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Here she learned the skills to be able to instruct a class and mastered a form of yoga called Hatha Vinyasa. I learned interestingly enough that there is not one type of yoga but actually around 20 different kinds of yoga you can learn. However I really wanted to learn why she’d be so interested in this and I found out that she is an avid traveller and during a trip to India when she was younger she met yogi’s and lots of hindu people and learned a little bit about that culture and it really interested her. So, when she returned home to Nova Scotia she started doing yoga on her own and ended up eventually pursuing the 500 hour yoga teacher course and completing it, Natalie is also a second degree black belt in
