Until my senior year in high school, I have always doubted my own ability to write. I felt as if I was never in the position to edit someone else paper because mine own writing skills were not flawless. English 1101 help me realized that I no one's writing is perfect but I could learn something from them that I may would of never known. When editing my peers paper, I want to make sure their papers flow thoroughly and properly support the thesis.
For Example, the revision below is a perfect exhibit of my review process. First, I read the whole essay before I edit anything. I do this because I feel that a paragraph may be better understood if the reader finishes the whole essay. My peers paper had a pretty decent introduction,
Upon entering Columbia College, writing was one of my weaker areas. It was very important that I gained the necessary knowledge and confidence to become a better writer. I didn’t know how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned seemed like a struggle to complete. Before entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I obtained this skill quickly. I noticed that every paper has an argument and the thesis helps clarify the rebuttal. Now, I have a new outlook on writing. It’s a way to express my thoughts and allow others to see things through my eyes. There is no doubt that I still have a long way to go, but I know if I continue to write, I will get better. Just as I developed more skills in class, the various papers assigned helped to better structure the writer in me. In addition, the subject areas were not only interesting, but very informative and made it much easier to write about my experiences.
Like transforming from a caterpillar to a butterfly, my writing style transformed from something mediocre to something quite exceptional. In high school, even when I took advanced placement English and Literature courses, I was never good at writing. My writing would lack structure, reasoning, syntax, and a well-defined thesis statement. My inadequate grades on writing assignments lowered my self-esteem, so I assumed I would never enjoy writing papers because I believed I could never improve. However, since attending a university my writing style has improved far beyond my expectation. My EN 101 course enhanced my understanding of the different ways I could approach my writing. Also, it enhanced my comprehension of outlines to complete assignments. Investing quality time into my writing made a substantial difference because I became a stronger writer. Through the late nights, constant revisions, and agonizing head traumas, I learned that my writing is truly spectacular whenever I incorporate well-defined thesis statements, provide sufficient supporting evidence, and maintain a clear focus in my assignments.
Analyzing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer is extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the structure of a good argument, I still miss obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills necessary to properly proofread my own work. In the future, I plan on spending a large portion of my time
The primary aim of English 1101 is to prepare the student to effectively communicate, and identify or create new knowledge in various spheres of life. English 1101 assisted me to have control over the writing conventions through extensive writing practice or reading, guided by evaluations and feedbacks from my course instructor. The course contains several topics namely; effective writing processes, rhetorical organizations methods, academic writing formats and styles, critical reading skills, researching, and citing the researched sources.
When writing my papers in English I was never sure what topic, I wanted to write about. I rotated between two, one being “The Mistreatment of Animals in Zoos” and the second and my main topic being “Is College Worth the Cost.” When writing these papers, I noticed something about myself. I had grown as a writer compared to when I first walked into English 1100, I had some writing experience but not much my grammar lacked and I was the queen of sentence fragments. Throughout the semester during English 1100, my writing skills improved. From learning, how to format works cited page correctly to learning how to analyze a source. My writing improved wonders with each paper. My paper I, I struggled extremely with formatting issues and how to
I have always found the peer review process to be beneficial on both ends, whether you are the writer or the reader, are being reviewed or are the reviewer. Having multiple sets of eyes proofread your paper should help more than hurt. It is your choice if you want to take the advice your peers gave. You have the option of not making any changes at all, so whether you decide to take the advice or not, it does not hurt to receive them. In Paper One, I found that peer reviewing others was a bit difficult because any comments made could be offending them. I felt that I would come off as criticizing the kind of person one is, instead of one's work since the assignment was to write about something that is personal.
I am a first-generation American, but due to my family’s constant moving between the U.S. and Mexico, I did not learn English till the age of 10—so around the 5th grade. I was in ESL courses in middle school. And eventually moved on to regular English in high school and soon enough became an English honor student. But even then, I experienced great difficulty writing papers, primarily because I struggled with thesis statements. Reading comprehension is not difficult, especially not, because I have a tendency of underlining and annotating. Now, after graduating from community college, I do believe I am a better writer, but I do believe there will always be room for improvement.
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.
The author of “Be Sure You're Right, Then Go Ahead”: The Davy Crockett Gun Craze is by Sarah Nilsen. During the first semester of English 1101 there were times I struggled but, I did see progression in my work along the way. Looking back on my writings from previous years, my teachers have always noticed the amount of detail I put into my papers. What the noticed I struggled in was sentence structure and excessive use of run-ons. Turning in my first writing assignment this year, I noticed those problems were still there. I understood I needed to work on my simple mistakes in order to be at the college level writing that I’m expected to be at next year.
My process journal is direct evidence of my final product and outcome because every aspect of my online and physical process journal are about what I hope to do for my final product. All the research questions, were directly related to my final product and it ultimately helped me create my final product. My process journal is there to help show how I progressed throughout the development of my personal project, to ultimately show my final project and what has come from it. One of my final entries before going to perform, were the places that I were a social hub in DFW and then the timings at, which these, places were the busiest. After making a list, I finished by choosing the ones that I would feel most comfortable in and those were the ones
I’m about to write y’all the most subjective review ever. Except I’m conscious of my subjectivism. So henceforth, feast your eyes, and minds, on what I like to call my objective portrayal of a highly subjective review. You’re welcome.
The most inviting factor about the environment of the first bulletin group was the purpose of the room. The printing room is a place where most students stay for a long time and work with computers, print their assignments and documents and even socialize with each other. The nature of this staying makes it more probable that the ads and notices being seen over time. The high traffic of the room and long stays exposes the boards to a large number of audience. Accordingly, most of the posts were about everyday needs of students and social ads that needs to be seen by as much persons as possible. On the other hand, the second bulletin group were located in an area that most
Writing or critiquing a paper have never been my strongest, but as I finish English 100 I feel that I have now found a strategy that has helped me achieve both of these struggles. One of the strategies that has helped
Since beginning to write papers in English class, I have had countless successes and failures. While many of my English classes have taught me how to improve my writing, I have not learned very much in others. My most recent English class was last year, my sophomore year. My class was particularly undersized; therefore, it gave each student the opportunity to have additional individual attention. Throughout the class I experienced high points, weaknesses, and even difficulties that I never overcame. Overall, my writing skills improved, but only marginally.
