Non-Profit Organization: The Genesis Center

Chosen People Ministries is another non-profit organization whose purpose is to evangelize and disciple Jewish people around the world. The organization was founded in 1894 by Leopold Cohn, a Jewish immigrant who is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and his passion is to share that with other fellow Jewish people. Chosen People Ministries serves Jewish people in sixteen countries across the world. The main focus of the organization is to reach Jewish people for Christ through evangelism and discipleship, equipping believers to share the gospel with Jewish people, providing resources in print and on the web, and doing benevolence work.

Genesis Counseling is for-profit, accepting Mastercard and Visa for payment. The agency accepts most major insurances, HMOs, and Employee Assistance Programs. Best Buddies is a non-profit organization that promotes the good through one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It has created lasting relationships between students with disabilities and their peers, therefore, helping to improve the quality of life and level of inclusion for a population that is often isolated and excluded. It has also provided employment opportunities for those with IDD, allowing them to be productive members of the labour force. Lastly, Best Buddies has given those with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to realize their potential by encouraging them to become leaders.

This paper will discuss three Jewish non-profit Organizations: Amir, Hazon and My Jewish Learning Experience, and their fundamentals, procedures, and goals. These nonprofits have one essential aspect in common; they all fall under the category of Slingshot Organizations. Slingshot, which originated in 2004, grew out of the Jewish community 's desire to better understand the Jewish organizations in existence. With help from the Bronfman family and staff, Slingshot is a resource guide to Jewish Innovation. It consisted of a list of the 50 most cutting-edge Jewish nonprofits in North America. Every year Slingshot chooses another 50 Jewish organizations, and there is no limit to how many times an organization can be mentioned. The question I have for Slingshot is why choose 50 organizations to target why not 100 or 25? The Slingshot Fund was officially founded in 2007, and targeted organizations that worked with the next generation. It taught the funders how to manage a non-profit by reviewing grant proposals, and learning how to best allocate funds. Slingshot 's mission statement is to build improvement among the Jewish community by creating next-generation funders, and allocating resources in order to strengthen their influence on Jewish life. The Fire and Burn Foundation is a non- profit health agency in California. It is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors all elected by the process stated in agency by-laws. Members of the board include medical and fire service professionals, business and civic leaders, burn survivors and family members of burn survivors and other community leaders. As of 2013, the Foundation was officially turned into an independent local non-profit. It is also the only Fire and Burn Foundation the provides burn survivor support and burn prevention education. Their mission is to reduce the burn injuries and deaths through fire and burn prevention education, burn survivor support programs and funding of burn care research and treatment. The Cleveland Clinic is a not-for-profit organization that is established in 1921. Frank E. Bunts and George Washington Crile bought the Cleveland Clinic. Crile structured the American military hospital in Paris in 1915, but the United States Army base later guided the hospital. The clinic was the main subject of the United States Army to see active duty in Europe committed and assembled as an outpatient building. Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) is a non-profit Pediatric Hospital that serves the region of Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. CHKD’s mission, focus, and priority is to assist children and to set the regional standard for healthcare excellence. CHKD is home to many specialties for children as well as adults. One of those specialties and the focus of this project is the heart clinic. As part of their mission, the heart center at CHKD is committed to providing compassionate, dedicated and the highest quality cardiovascular care for both children and adults. Dayspring Center is a nonprofit organization that serves homeless families and helps them become independent. The mission of the center is “helping homeless families find their way home” (Casson, 2015). To achieve this mission they try to lovingly meet the needs of homeless families by meeting these families where they are without judgement and by addressing what brought the family to the center in the first place. The idea of Dayspring center originated from a group of volunteers who were inspired by an Episcopal priest. This priest offered pews for homeless people to sleep through the night. This led him to open an overnight shelter and soup kitchen in the local Episcopal Church. Dayspring Center officially opened in 1989 in a renovated building near downtown Indianapolis. Throughout the years the organization has grown into an agency that strives to prevent and combat homelessness. Their programs focus on immediate relief and then sustainability for the families that they work with. They effectively work to combat homelessness by focusing first on the issues that cause families to become homeless.

After screening the four finalists for our nonprofit donation list, I have been able to rank the four to identify which organization aligns best with our philanthropic goals. The rankings are based on the impact, cause, accountability, and size of the nonprofit organization. From highest to lowest, my rankings are as follows:

The Wellness Center is a nonprofit organization that offers health education and prevention, as well as free consultations for many health concerns. The primary goal is to minimize risks and provide prevention strategies in order to reduce harm and negative health consequences to their target audience (i.e., the students of Cal Poly Pomona). The staff consists of Health Educators as well as Peer Health Educators – the latter which are Cal Poly Pomona students who have a background or interest in health matters. They provide consultations or one-on-one counseling on various health-related topics. They also offer other services such as health assessments, activities, educational programs, as well as provide many free giveaways.

As a non-profit organization, our company has been profoundly doing well in helping raise money for families. Being with an organization which is committed to providing assistance to families in impoverished towns is very generous. Although, there is a concern I would like to address regarding using certain data we are using in our annual reports.The company uses pie charts to display data and prefers one type of pie chart over the other. I feel that we should use the pie chart which demonstrates the percentages.
