If you do not delete messages then divert your attention to something else you will come back to your inbox and forget what that message is, weather it had been dealt with, deleting messages stops you having to reproduce work which has already been completed. But deleting your message isn’t efficient. As Staffords limited, I file my messages away into a network of folders and subfolders; This is the same as deleting them as they are not in my inbox. All mail should be sorted and checked as soon as it arrives, incoming mail can be opened by reception staff, mail should be checked dated and distributed to the relevant staff in the organisation, mail that is marked private and confidential should not be opened by reception staff only dated with the date stamp.
