Introduction Ola Cabs was founded on 3rd December 2010, by two IIT Bombay graduates, Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati. Ola Cabs is differed in its approach, instead of buying and renting out cars, the company collaborated with a number of taxi drivers. The company uses technology at the core of its operations through which its users can use various technology platforms to avail the cab service. Because of this model the company was able to start with very low capital compared to the regular cab service providers. Ola works as a cab aggregator thereby connecting the consumer to various taxi drivers. Ola has also launched Ola café recently in a few tier-1 cities through which they provide food delivery service through their cabs within a specific time limit. Besides this Ola Shuttle and its tie up with Comicon are some of the recent developments with Ola Cabs. The company’s values are based on three pillars – Convenience, Quality and Control. The company aims to deliver the best value and convenience to its customer. Overview of the Industry The Indian taxi sector is dominated by the government regulated taxis which are state specific. For example, in Maharashtra and Delhi, most cabs have the famous Kaali-Peeli, while in West Bengal the taxis have an all-yellow livery. Private operators also occupy a major chunk in the Indian taxi sector. The Indian taxi cab sector is reguated by the Motor Vehicles Act laying down specific rules for plying of these cabs. Taxis plying from point to point have to follow the Radio Taxi Scheme which has mandated licensees to have parking space for all taxis along with office space for telephones and radio communications. This Scheme also act supervisory role governing the quality of driver and supervision, employee behavior and verification amongst other supervisory and guidance
