While there are many stories where Boccaccio informally declares women to be the victor, the revers is also true. There are also stories where men come out victorious over women but, the only reason that happens is because of their depravity and not through their use of intellect. For example, on Day 4 Story 9, Messer Guglielmo Rossiglione treacherously calls Messer Guglielmo Guardastagno and attacks him from behind upon behind out he is having an affair with his wife (635). Here Rossiglione obtains what he desires – taking revenge and in doing so ends up loosing his wife and his best friend and in the end, runs away ashamed of the act he had committed.

In chapter 2 Nye, starts the chapter with a main question does technology control us? He begins by stating things that we could not imagine living without and to contrast this he gives us examples of societies that chose to reject certain advances in technology. One example is the rejection of guns by Japan, they adopted guns for Portuguese traders, learned how to make them and gave up bow and sword. Only to later leave them for what people believe were cultural reasons. He also describes how there are still certain groups or societies that abolish technology like the Amish and Mennonites. They do not allow devices before prior evaluation on how it could impact the community. He continues to share different stories to discuss the question however the question remains unanswered.
“If the Reverend hadn’t take the situation in hand and preached one of the hottest sermons in hand and preached one of the hottest sermons on the relationship of the fruits of the Earth to plain, downright human foolishness, I don’t know where it would have all ended” (Fast 68). The novel April Morning is a book of historical fiction written by Howard Fast. The book depicts the historic battle of Lexington in the Revolutionary War. The theme of April’s Morning is about a fifteen-year-old boy named Adam Cooper who is trying to prove to his father that he is a man. As the small village of Lexington prepares to battle the British Red Coats, the village relies heavily on the Reverend. The Reverend is a flat character because his stance as a leader does not change. He is also a static character because he does not change in character no matter what happens. Although throughout the book the Reverend’s true name is never revealed, he has many other character traits are shown in
Queen Boudicca proved the strength of women when women carried little respect. Boudicca commented during her revolution that it was rather rare for the Britons to follow a female warrior leader (Wood, 338). After all, during her time women were rarely involved in leadership positions. Her gender was just one more obstacle Boudicca had to overcome to bring her people justice. Second, the Roman army did not have any female soldiers, while the Celtic army did. The Roman general Suetonius is recorded as having made a snide remark about the women among Celtic
“A redcoat soldier raised his musket, leveled it at Father, and fired” (Fast 100). April Morning is written by Howard Fast and takes place on April 17th, 1775 at the start of the revolutionary war in Lexington, Massachusetts. Moses Cooper is a major character and also the antagonist to Adam because he and Adam are always fighting and Moses doesn’t let Adam grow up. Although Moses was hard to understand, he was an affectionate, opinionated and respected man.
St. John argues that when individuals fear change, it creates more problems and conflicts. However, if people were to embrace change, then this would enhance the lives of all people involved.
In chapter 11 Walter didn’t want to work at the garment center. Walter had wanted to be a lawyer at the age nine. Walter would simply memorize a passage and recited it. A coach had asked Walter to come for track his junior year. In chapter 12 Walter missed three weeks of school. Walter lusted three weeks before he stopped going to school again. In chapter 10 the idea of what it meant to be poor changed in the late sixties. Most of Walter life had been divided between school, reading, and ball playing. The second burden of that summer came in the form of Walter grandfather. William Dean was a tall, ramrod-straight man with mannerisms that seemed more appropriate for the nineteenth century than for 1951. After the civil war the former
The governor, Gaius Suetonius Paulinus, was occupied with troubles in the north, which caused his to overlook Boudicca and the growing threat in the south. It was such as shock to Nero, that he almost ordered a withdrawal from Britain. This did not occur as Suetonius took punitive measure against the Celts; Nero later replaced him with a less harsh governor. As Roman society was male dominated and women were not associated with business or politics, Boudicca’s revolt confused them as she showed women could be brave, determined and a leader to men. The Romans found dealing with a powerful woman difficult as they lived in a patriarchy society, and believed she “possessed of greater intelligence than often belongs to women”4. Although the source is useful and reveals how male Romans viewed Boudicca, but due to the gender biased the source is unreliable to an extent. Boudicca defied stereotype that all women were weak and unintelligent, it brought great shame to the Romans, that a women led a revolt that caused them great trouble. Due to the uprising, Romans were more careful and possibly more respectful toward their dealing with other Celtic and British tribes. The Romans administration introduced a much fairer taxation system, they also rebuilt and reinforced their settlements. The Romans believed it was important to strengthen their defences for possible future uprising, but also
There is hardly anyone that hasn’t had to grow up. Growth is central to every character in a story, but “Through the Tunnel” and To Kill a Mockingbird amplify this; the loss of innocence and coming of age is central to the entire story. Both “Through the Tunnel” and To Kill a Mockingbird’s main conflict test the characters (Jem in To Kill a Mockingbird and Jerry in “Through the Tunnel”) as they grow up in the face of adversity.
In the beginning of the novel To Kill a mockingbird Scout is in the first stage of the Preconventional level. Scout only thinks about listening to Atticus so that she does not get into trouble. ¨ Jem´s evasion told me our game was a secret, so I kept quiet¨(Lee,40). When Scout,Jem and Dill were playing the Boo Radley game. They knew they had to keep it a secret or they would get into trouble for playing the game.
Men in the tragedies need to proves that they are superior to all other men and securing the beautiful woman that everyone is chasing is a frequent method. Ovid’s story of Atlanta portrays men competing for a bride. Atlanta agrees to marry the man who is able to beat her in a race.By being the fastest and most athletic, which are qualities associated highly with masculinity, the boys competing for Atlanta are showing who is manliest. Not only must the potential groom beat out all other men, but he must be able to outrun, or overtake, his bride. In a brief sword fight in the Capulet’s tomb, Romeo and Paris compete for Juliet and the victor is allowed to mourn her as his wife (Shakespeare 5.3.80). Women are a prize to be won and males are driven

Somebody says that men and women are the two wheel of the same cart which means both of them are incomplete without one another. As take a look from the ancient time to current period most of the times women scarifies more than the men did. In Shakespeare Othello, it is evident to see how women scarify their life against the men world. Either Desdemona or Emilia both scarifies their life in their ways against the men. From Shakespeare Othello Desdemona can consider as a tragic heroine because she has to bear a punishment without a mistake, does not make an argument to prove what the truth is.
