Overactive Bladder and Pregnancy During pregnancy, most women may experience overactive bladder or urinary incontinence. This can be mild or infrequent, while for others, it can be severe that can eventually affect their daily routine. This type of incontinence experienced during pregnancy is known as stress incontinence. It is the loss of urine due to increased pressure on the bladder, which makes the bladder sphincter unable to function properly when it comes to holding urine. Pregnancy hormones can also cause the pelvic muscles to relax for the anticipated delivery, which in turn affects the ability to control urine. These hormones also speeds up bloods’ filtration into the kidneys, resulting in accumulation of more fluid in the …show more content…
This also includes the vaginal muscles that responds during an orgasm. A kegel exercise regime starts by contracting the pelvic muscles for 10-15 repetitions per set at least three times a day. This can be done while standing, sitting or lying down. Women who’ve done this method can see its effectiveness in just four to six weeks. Nutrition Proper nutrition can contribute in managing symptoms of overactive bladder. Consult your doctor before changing your diet. This is to avoid any nutrient deficiency which can lead to serious complication with the pregnancy. Here are several do’s and don'ts when it comes to food intake. Avoid drinking caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, energy drinks and colas. These fluids can contribute to bladder irritation. Water should be your preferred beverage since sodas and energy drinks can aggravate an overactive bladder. Drink small amounts of water throughout the day but don’t restrict yourself from drinking since this can cause further irritation. Avoid drinking large amounts of fluids because it can fill your bladder quickly, which increases the urge of urination. Avoid drinks containing aspartame, saccharin or other artificial sweeteners since this can cause bladder irritation. Some of these are also added in pre-packaged foods so always read the labels. Avoid drinking alcohol. Aside from it’s not good for your pregnancy, it is also a known diuretic that can make your
Many Americans are chronically dehydrated. This only makes you more prone to getting UTIs. Make sure you get enough to drink. Make sure some of what you drink is plain water. Caffeine and alcohol are both dehydrating. Such beverages really don't count as much as you may think towards keeping you hydrated.
Carbonation isn’t alone in causing problems in the digestive system. Caffeine also plays a role
The solution probably seems like a no brainer, don't drink alcohol while pregnant. But it goes further than this, we must hold others accountable, spread awareness, and be educated on this topic so we can stand firm to stop this preventable cause.
One of the more interesting sources came from: The better Bladder Book “What’s Bugging your Bladder” by Wendy Cohan. The chapter pg 96, discusses the role of food sensitivity in IC. It argues that food sensitivities play a huge role in causing or worsening bladder symptoms and can also contribute to harmful inflammation throughout the body. A lot of this relates to the types of foods we eat and how our bodies process those foods. In my own experience in trying to find the right treatment options, diet was one of the first that I had to change. Things that are high in acid like tomatoes could cause a painful flare up that could last from hours to days, or even months, so eliminating this from my diet was one way to eliminate another painful flare. This book was written with a copyright date of 2011, and since then, no changes have been made to IC Diet that I could find in any of my sources.
The fetus is not the only one harmed by alcohol consumption during pregnancy, but the mother is as well. In fact, many doctors urge women who think they are pregnant or are trying to get pregnant to stop drinking (“Fetal Alcohol”). “One percent of all mothers consume fourteen or more drinks per week during the three months before pregnancy” (Walsh 3). To the average person one percent is not too large of a proportion. However, the volume of alcohol consumed is high during
Most of you probably prefer to drink coffee, soda, or other beverages opposed to water, but how
Water showed a trend opposite to that of Gatorade and coffee: the volume of urine began high and decreased quickly over time.
Behavioral treatments are conservative measures and are the first treatment option for patients with stress and urge incontinence. Behavioral treatments include; bladder training, pelvic muscle exercises, biofeedback and cognitive therapy. With bladder training it helps the individual from going to the toilet less frequently. Bladder training can be seen from two dimensions, going to the bathroom on schedule and also using strategies to control your bladder from urgent urine. This as a whole involves some time to practice. However, people with dementia and some other health cognitive complications cannot practice this. You may start by trying to hold off for 10 minutes every time you feel an urge to urinate. The goal is to lengthen the time between trips to the toilet until you're urinating only every two to four hours (the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 2011).
Caffeine is in items such as Coca-Cola, mountain dew, coffee etc. all sodas and caffeinated drinks can lead to serious heart failure, heart attacks, insomnia, mood drops and can even increase illnesses like depression and anxiety. One way to avoid caffeinated drinks is to limit the number of sugary drinks and sodas you have. Drinks such as capri suns, apple juice, orange juice and even Gatorade take the craving for caffeine
Also be aware that some caffeinated drinks have a high percent of sugar and when mixed together they can be very harmful towards your body
Dehydration is the primary reason for various health issues. Elevated utilization of coffee and alcohol just adds to the problem. Can you recall the last time you had six to eight glasses of water during the day?
Dribbling and leaking of urine. Forcing the bladder muscles to work can make the bladder lose elasticity and control. This can result in dribbling or leaking, as the bladder can let go of residual urine without warning.
The bladder and urinary tract depict the epitome of various old age associated conditions. Urinary incontinence otherwise known as loss of bladder control is a common problem associated with aging. Besides old age, diabetes and other conditions also contribute to incontinence. Other common conditions include menopause for women and enlarged prostate for men.
*Fluid-Stone formation is a gradual process, and the tendency in a susceptible person persists throughout life. Vigilance with adequate fluid intake and diet is needed indefinitely. Fluids like coconut water, barley water, sherbet, aerated water, fruit juice, and weak tea can be taken in order to ensure over 2000ml of urine per day. A heavy manual worker should take more fluid if working in humid climate to compensate fluid loss due to perspiration. The simplest guide is to drink enough fluids to see that the urine is very light in colour.
First of all, water is vital for our healthy. Water is the most important and abundant inorganic compound that contain in all living things. For example, drinking water after exercise helps us to replace the fluids lost and to ensure we stay properly hydrated. When we work up a sweat during exercise, our body loses large volumes of water which can lead to dehydration if we don’t replace them by drinking water or other fluids. Cannot be denying that humans might be able to survive for weeks without food, however without water we would die in a couple of days. As adults, we tend to drink coffee and soda rather than water. Water is so important for generate healthy organ function, lubricated joints and even strong bones. If you can’t stop taking the caffeinated drink altogether, which by the way it can lead to the increased of dehydration. Most of the body’s chemical reactions are occur in a watery medium. Water has many properties that make it become crucial compound for life.
