Overall I found that the series of guest lectures, during the semester, helped me to decide on a clear career path for myself. Prior to the guest lecturer series I would never have taken Revenue as a career option and I believed practice was only a stepping-stone to the world of academia. Now I can see there are several career options available to me upon completion of the masters in taxation and the non-academia world of tax has interesting aspects. I found it very interesting the differences between Revenue, private practice and academic speakers. What stood out most to me were the differences between Revenue and private practice. Reflecting on all of those who spoke with the class, Feargal O’Rourke, Pat Molen and Leonard Durac were the three that stood out. The differences that were most prevalent were the way each speaker spoke and the confidence they portrayed, what each body do, the promotion opportunities and the day-to-day work carried out in each body.
From the three speakers chosen I found Feargal to be the most confident and to have a lasting impact on the class as a whole. When the session was over, every classmate I spoke to made a comment on how impressive he was and that it was no surprise he was promoted so quickly. I believe this is a result of working in private practice, as it is a competitive in nature and clients will want a confident person working for them. I found it very impressive that he spoke to the class as if he were one of us and that the
He was so confident in his message that he transferred that confidence to the audience. The speaker was not afraid to let his emotion or passion show. This made him feel more relatable.
A practicum experience should be a great introduction into Human Services and all that a population can has to offer you. Your post really reflects the opposite of this experience sadly enough. The agency where I am employed and use for practicum has a single program manager and is sometimes very overburdened by the demands of the clients and additive dramas. Even though we have a weekly practicum meeting scheduled there have been times when this simply was possible because of incidents and clients demand her attention right away. This does take priority. Maybe you can project not so much on the agency but what you can take away from your clients when you are at the site.
Please explain how your past personal and professional experience make you a quality candidate for the position for which you are applying.
My practicum experience for the fall semester has been absolutely phenomenal. The school I had decided to pursue my practicum is Daniel L. Perez Elementary School and is located in Yigo. The reason why I had chosen that school was the environment and kindness that radiated from that place and people. From the moment I called and was spoken to by one of the staff, I felt immediately felt welcomed. I knew without a doubt that this would be an amazing school for me to step into my field of work.
The practicum experience is at Communities at Indiana Haven. It is mainly a long-term home facility. It has three units: rehabilitation unit, Alzheimer unit, and resident long-term home unit. Staff enter each unit using their cards and they have to make sure that each door is closed behind them. For the three units, there are two RNs working during the day-shifts, while only one RN working at the night-shifts. Also during the day there are six LPNs and nine nursing assistants. At night, there are four LPNs and five nursing assistants. Moreover, to be admitted to this community, patients have to meet certain criteria. For example, Indiana Haven does not accept patients who need tracheostomy care or nasogastric tubes because of the decrease number
She acts in a professional manner and understands who her audience is. She has had the opportunity to really hone in on her skills and she took it seriously, knowing that these were going to make her stand out amongst others in her field. She also had some flaws and is not perfect at presenting still. The “flaws” I observed in her presentation was that it lacked a little pizazz. It was informative and nice but not the most memorable. She also sounded slightly rehearsed so we lost a bit of that natural speaking element. I also believe that she could have prepared to discuss additionally content if questions were slow which happened to be the case. Overall this was an effective presentation as I was engaged and listened instead of feeling the need to doodle or look out the window for
Over the course, I have grown and learned more than I thought possible about the Personal Income Tax. I came to this class already knowing the basic of VITA from past experience, but I wanted to learn more about Personal taxes; I had taken numerous courses to learn accounting and tax, but I am happy to say this class gives you a more personal view of the tax and how to affect every individual. Going through the program has taught me so much more than expected, it has taught me how helping others. I have learned here how to do self-employed individual and international student (F-1). The class and teacher help learn how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don't know. Most importantly, I have learned how important
On Sunday, December 3, 2017, I delivered my first oral presentation on Janette, a peer in my Communicating Effectively course at Manhattanville College. The objective of the project was to familiarize yourself with a classmate, ask/answer questions provided by Professor Brosnan, and then share the knowledge you gained about the individual in a two-minute presentation. The presentation was required to introduce the classmate, what graduate program they are pursuing, why he/she is in the program, their long-term career goal(s), current occupation, favorite class, and an interesting fun fact. The oral presentations were done in the classroom without any visual aid, allowing you to use notes if preferred. By analyzing my 1 minute and 25 second presentation using the “7 Step Presentation Process” I uncovered my strengths and weaknesses as a presenter.
When I was still in scouting, several friends and I spent a week at a scouting camp. Boy scout summer camps are usually secluded in the forest. While I was there I became more confident in myself and learned the value of connecting back with nature. The reason for this is they want you to get away from the city and get you back into nature for a week. This idea is unique and there are no longer many places who do this anymore. While you are in the camp you forget about what you were doing back in the city, and you just focus on nature and hanging out with your friends in camp.
I want to participate in the Oxbridge Summer Seminar because it’s a new experience. I am a person that’s all about new experiences. From sampling squid-ink dyed paella in Madrid to trying my hand at falconry in the deserts of the UAE to riding elephants in the jungles of Chiang Mai, I am always ready for the unconventional. Being a regular traveler and having lived in countries on opposite sides of the globe, I not only have experiences in these countries but interacting with the communities of these places has given me a perspective of different societies on various issues. I can contribute this variation of perspective, and the unique experiences from my travels to this program. My planned
The past weeks at my clinical were memorable and exciting, I was exposed to many learning opportunities, which I took advantage of. Also, I had to provide care to more patients than required per shift and each patient had their different ways of care. From week one I was nervous, shy and had a little difficulty developing a therapeutic relationship with my client. However, by the end of week one, I had so much confidence in providing care to my patients. I was placed in the complex continuing care which involved complex skills and complex patients. My unit had two sides, one side was rehab floor and the other side was complex floor; so I had the opportunity to work in both floors. My greatest growth were mastering the skills needed in providing care to the complex patients like suctioned patients with tracheostomy, monitored patient with continuous bladder irrigation, assessed, changed and care for patient’s ostomy independently, administered feedings and medication via G-tube, packed a deep wound, developed a therapeutic relationship with my patient, been able to achieve many skills required for semester four and providing emotional support for my client. By week three, the expectations required to care for my patients were more because it was the half of the pregrad, I strived to accomplish most of the skills listed in the self-assessment skills. I had my ups and downs with my patients which would have discouraged me about my profession but it did not, rather it
My personal journey in this practicum experience has been an eventful one. Once I started to get comfortable and had things down pact, it is all done with. It began with the curriculum writing project in which we were instructed to plan lessons for students that we did not have any background information on such as, prior knowledge on content or their abilities and it was rather challenging. It felt as if I was never done writing the CWP. The moment I thought that I was done writing the CWP, I had to make further changes. In the end, I learned to appreciate the CWP. Once I was in the classroom and started interacting with the students, I realized that my CWP was not developmentally appropriate for my targeted audience and the process of writing the CWP all started to make

My philosophy of teaching is deeply rooted in nurturing the potential each and every student in my classes. Providing a creative environment that allows self assessment, growth, group interaction and mentorship are at its very core. Having taught in Higher Education for many years, and as an instructor of Media Arts and Animation, and Game Design, I have had the amazing opportunity to work with some of the brightest and creative young professionals. Teaching has not only broadened my love of art and exploration, but my determination to help students that do not have the confidence to persevere through their education, yet have the passion to follow their dreams.
Again in my own opinion, I truly think this made his presentation crash for me in the simple fact that at some point in an educator's life you will have to deal with all sorts of different people difficult and not, but a teacher has to be prepared and grasp and or uphold all situations in a calm, peaceful and professional manner. Him, having said that made it seem as he still has not yet accepted that fact. Overall the teachers visit was very informative I did take a lot of mental notes from what the teacher said into account and do hope to practice as well as utilize some of his methods in my own classroom to see how well they work for me. He did inspire and motivate me to try hard and put everything that It can possibly give into teaching and the college process because the payoff is life changing. Having this professional education instructor come back to his college in which he graduated and having the luxury of conversing with students sitting where he was not too long ago about being an educator was very inspirational to me. Also to see the amount of the commemoration doctor dresser was awarded to this man gave me the intuition of doing the same and come back to my college to be bestowed the occasion to tell aspiring
