Personal Leadership Profile
Few skills are more important to self-improvement than being able to take a step back and honestly evaluate you. Self-reflection allows you to expose problems early, before they become too painful to ignore. Unfortunately, honest self-evaluation is one of the hardest skills to master. People tend to be self-serving in their thoughts. For most people, self-reflection involves looking into a mirror, with all the information warped and distorted until it barely resembles reality. True self-evaluation is challenging, and requires you to be open to “see” your strengths and weaknesses, and to develop a plan of action to develop those areas that are lacking. Preparedness for the hard truth is required. The

Self leadership through personal learning and reflection “provides a foundation for effective leadership skills” (Watson, 2004). The Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) includes self leadership as one of it’s five core leadership competencies, which is defined as “The Lead Self” domain. As part of Leading Self, effective leaders must demonstrate: self awareness, managing self, developing self and demonstrating character. (CCHL, 2010).
Personally, self-examination is an integral part of my life, without self-examination a looping process of failure occurs. I cannot grow without self-examination. I love growth, as a human being I believe that it is the most important part to becoming a contributor to society and compassionate individual. I cannot fully understand my mistakes without examining them first,

Through identification and ongoing assessment of her leadership style and ability this leader is able to develop and understand her own strengths and limitations in order to grow and develop into a more effective leader. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of servant leadership, contingency, path-goal styles leadership to gain an understanding of current leadership models, identify this author’s style of leadership and explore why leadership is important to organizations, society and this author.
A self evaluation is a method for an individual to mark, or reflect on what they have learned about ones’ self through a questionnaire. It allows for individuals to identify their weaknesses, as well as strengths, and ways we can improve as an individual. It is important that individuals realize they are not perfect and make mistakes, but must learn how to overcome or increase their knowledge, and this is one of the methods to help identify them.
In order to be able to function to the best of my ability I must from time to time take stock of myself through a self-assessment. This is so that I can accentuate the positive aspects of myself, and also to correct any deficiencies that maybe an issue.
Self-reflection as an assessment works to allow individuals to better understand their own actions, beliefs and preferences. Concurrently, the better one understands oneself, the more capable that person is of recognizing and identifying the reasons behind others’ actions, beliefs and preferences. Equally, this fosters strengthened personal abilities with
Self assessment is highly needed in order for me to understand my strengths and weaknesses as a person.
I believe that at any person with leadership skills has the potential in becoming a good leader. I also believe a person can lead if he or she has good core values view of the world. One core value from each level including individual, between-people, organizational, and social, showing how individuals are acting towards the values others. These values help to complete my personal model of leadership, and how I conducted myself as a leader when I was in a leadership role (Smith, 2005).
Over the past few years many academics have pondered over the importance and use of critical thinking and self-evaluation, and its impact. With ever increasing research into this field, it’s no surprise that it is swiftly becoming a large influence on academic establishments, and in the work place. Core self-evaluation and critical thinking, as well as increasing academic and employability success, can also influence greatly on self-esteem and confidence. But evaluating ones self without bias can often be complex, as many do not want to undermine their current level of self-esteem and confidence by admitting there is room for improvement. However the admission of needing and wanting to improve ones self
Looking back to when we first began the semester in week one, I can remember not really expecting to gain much out of this class. I remember thinking that this was just another liberal education requirement that I had to fulfil to graduate. After having gone through OLDP 1301W, I can attest to the fact that it was certainly not just another liberal education requirement. The class really pushed me outside of my comfort zone. The first memorable moment that I would tell someone several years from now was our first major assignment, the Personal Leadership Journey. Although this assignment took a while to prepare, what I really learned from this assignment was the value being vulnerable can add to a group of people. In my Personal Leadership Journey, I talked about things that I haven’t even shared with my best friends; quite frankly, things I’m scared to share with other people. This was meaningful because I found out that there is another person in our community that shared a similar experience. From a personal standpoint, this gave me comfort that I’m not the only one going through an experience like this, and that other people face my
It is necessary for individuals to view themselves from the outside in occasionally in order to gain a different perspective and improve their self-evaluation ability. Furthermore, continual self-assessments enable leaders to understand their strengths and weaknesses so that they may improve on their leadership success (Banutu-Gomez and Rohrer 2011).
Reflection is a careful thought about oneself, one’s behaviour and one’s beliefs. It means reviewing past experiences and making insights about them. Reflection is like looking into the mirror and saying what you see. ("Self reflection | Unison", 2017)
The true purpose of self-reflection is to correct our mistaken thoughts and actions, and learn from them, thereby creating a more constructive life. Self-reflection is not just the simple act of discovering past mistakes and making up for these mistakes, like resetting a negative to zero. The ultimate objective of self-reflection is the development of a more positive self and the realization of a utopia on earth as the fulfilment of God’s will."
The study of leadership teaches leaders about what motivates people to work. Thus, it’s understood that all motivated employees, and team players will be more productive. Therefore, the study of various theories and models of motivation, such as Maslow’s hierarchy of needs model, and Herzberg’s two factor theory are carefully studied to improve leader’s ability to motivate their employees. Also, studying leadership enables leaders to understand people and the work environment better. However, most importantly, the study of leadership is a personal journey. Helping a person to develop their leadership potentials, which enables one to develop their leadership potentials. Therefore, understanding leadership is really learning about understanding yourself. When I decided to take this leadership class. My expectations were to learn more about myself, how to effectively communicate with difficult people, and become a better leader. My expectations were met. However, I have also learned that I need to develop my interpersonal skills to bring people together.
