Internship reflection 1 For my internship I have chosen to do something that I am extremely passionate about. I have chosen to become a nanny for the summer. While this is a job that is very common and may be less structured than other organizations involving parents and children, I truly love the job that I do. It allows me to build a one on one connection with the children and the parents. As a speech pathology major this is something that is really important to me. I have always loved kids and this has allowed me to do what I love everyday. For the purpose of these reflections, I think it is important to have some information about the children that I care for on a daily basis. Four days a week I watch two children. The boy is eight and going into 3rd grade next year, and the girl is six and she is starting 1st grade in the fall. Throughout these reflections I am going to refer to them as Alex (boy) and Emily (girl). I feel that it is important to note that these children are my cousins. I have known them since they were born, and I have watched them grow up. I have been their babysitter since Alex was just a few months old. Working for one’s family comes with great challenges, but also great reward. My first 10 hours mostly involved pick the kids up from school at 2:30 and taking them back to their house. I would pull up in the front driveway of their school, get out of my car and wait with the other parents for the kids to come out. Sometimes it would just be Alex and
I am passionate about working in a child care setting with young children. I love to see a child’s face light up when they learn or try something new. Similar to this quote, “If you can read this, thank a teacher.” written by an anonymous. This statement made me giggled and lit up my face when I saw it on the back of a car. This made me think back to my teachers who had made a big impact in my life and taught me valuable lessons. My internship will display this passion by allowing me to work with children and help me gain the knowledge, training and experience that I may need to support the children in a child care setting.
Internships are extraordinary opportunities to learn and grow. Internships are mostly designed to expand the depth and the breadth of the academic learning in the particular areas of the study. Internship is an opportunity to receive experience in applying all formulas, methods, theories in the classroom to specific experiences in the real world and to see how it actually works.
My experiences working with children officially began in 2012 when I started working for One of A Kind Progressive Early Education. I worked with children of all ages, primarily toddlers and preschoolers. While working at One of A Kind, I assisted the lead teachers as much as possible. I helped develop daily routines of activities, lesson plans, nap, and toilet-training times that seemed most effective for the students. I worked with parents during pick up and drop off times to make sure they were happy with the schedule and care their child was receiving. I was in charge of maintaining a safe environment for the students at One of A Kind.
Below you will find samples of my work, as well as links to my website and resume. I hope everything at your agency is going well and thriving. Let me know if you would like to talk further about any internship opportunities you currently offer or have open. I would also love to hear any feed back on what you have seen so far if you have any. Thank you so much for your time. I look forward to hearing from
This memo describes my progress to date in the course COSC 684 300: Professional Internship in Summer 2015 semester. I shall also discuss my plans to successfully complete the course in August 2015. The memorandum would be divided in three main task areas which were agreed at the time of the individual internship agreement between me and the department.
My internship placement is at Positive Living Niagara, which is non-for profit organization located in Downtown, St Catharines. The focus of this organization is to offer a band of innovative and proactive tactics to harm reduction, prevention and a person- centered focus on support and education for those at risk and affected by HIV, HCV and STBBIs in the region. The organization is comprised of 3 major departments, which are Support and Education, Street works, and Case Management. I work in the office while generally overseeing these departments every Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm. My supervisor is the Executive Director of the organization and his name is Glen Walker. I have been given a main task that is to redesign the organization’s annual report. Along with this task I was given others such as succession planning, analyzing, and revising existing polices.
My husband and I began our family shortly after I obtained an undergraduate degree. In just a few years, we had four children under the age of seven. I was managing a large household and raising our children in a stable, nurturing environment during pivotal early years. Consequently, I was not active in the workforce. As a stay at home mother, I was available to volunteer at school when my eldest child entered kindergarten fourteen years ago. After several years of serving as a school volunteer and being named the 2009 Volunteer of the Year, I gradually progressed to substitute teaching in order to continue building my educational experiences.
Among the numerous School of Pharmacy outcomes, the one I have chosen to evaluate my progress is in Personal Management and Leadership.
The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility. The essential Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) courses taken at Lander University were beneficial to my academic knowledgebase, which prepared me and developed me for the opportunity within the physical therapy discipline. Working as
This summer I am interning at Carmen and Muss P.L.L.C. a small law firm here in Washington D.C. It is a real estate law firm run by member Mindy Carmen. She started her own law firm in the private sector working with government contracts after years of working in the public sector in various parts of the federal government. Over the past few weeks working in the office I have gotten the opportunity to grow closer and learn a lot from Mindy. Who is also my internship supervisor. In my internship I work with her and her assistant, Marissa, a current law student at George Washington.
It has been a while since I started at the internship and I am really glad I decided to work here. I think the experience in this area is a good preview of my career and future. I am learning some important skills and finding out some things about myself and the tough skin I will need in order to stay in the area of juvenile support.
Much to my delight, I was able to begin and end my internship the same way. My last day, December 5th, was another STEAM program. This one based on space and the solar system. I was surprised to see how much the children knew about the planets, especially the younger ones. As someone who was always fascinated by the stars, this program was right up my alley. It was also a significant use of my knowledge. While I did not get many high-fives, the kids were still very interactive and excited to show me their projects. My favorite project for this program was one that gave kids a constellation to take home. Cut-outs of various constellations were there to pick from, then one is attached to an end of a toilet paper tube. Once secured the children were able to use flashlights to shine the constellation on the walls. This was a project that every child took home and were very excited to try out at home that night.
Corina was administered the A.P.S. and told about how the results would help reveal her strengths and weaknesses.
I had an amazing time on the ranch for my internship, and feel like I learned a lot about communication and trust. We were given so much responsibility on a daily level that you learned to communicate well with the people around you. Even when you weren’t on shift you were always helping others around the ranch with continuous projects. One thing that I felt was very inspiring was the way all the employees would work together as a unit and choose to be helpful when times would get tight. I believe this work ethic was inspired in us since day one; we talked for long hours about how having positive attitudes and bringing play into work made our days filled with energy and spirit.
After this internship made me realised how diverse engineering fields and there is so much new knowledge to learn, considering myself with electrical power engineering background working in construction site which may related on civil engineering field. When I studied the project plan documentations, there is some new term and I need to find extra information on the Internet myself to understand more about the ongoing project. Having said that, knowledge that I have obtained throughout my study in ECU proved to be useful such as basic CAD, mechanic and material courses during my first and second year which make me easier to understand the structure drafting of the floor plans.
