I want to be a part of Keiser University's Physician Assistant Program because it is one of the best in South Florida. I agree with its mission statements and goals. This 24-month curriculum will allow me to reach my goal of pursuing my career as a Physician Assistant, sooner than most programs. It is centrally located so that most students have a minimum commute of 15-20 minutes. I am impressed by Keiser's excellent reputation of job placement among graduating PA students. According to present students, this school has a low professor to student ratio. I am eager to participate in this type of learning environment. Also, I am happy to see that the PANCE rate has been improving as the program strives to prepare students for the national certification
Both Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Physician Assistants (PA) are two very important professionals in the field of medicine. They both work under the supervision of a licensed physician, and their functions are also quite similar with very minor differences between the two. Due to such similarities it has become very difficult for the general population to differentiate between these two professionals (Nurse Practitioner School, 2015). The nurse practitioners are registered nurses who have gone on to earn a master's or doctorate degree in a specialty area of nursing, such as family practice, adult practice, pediatrics or women's health. Their duties include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions, prescribing medication,
Pebbles Lafleur05/15/2018HS115My Scope of PracticeAs many people know, there are steps into making into the medical field world. There are still certifications and levels to have under your belt to move up. Many people start as a CNA, then LPN, RN and so on and so forth. However, currently, I am enrolled in school to become a CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) and hopefully adding phlebotomy under my belt as well. Nevertheless, before all this to happen, there is a process to go by and complete it accordingly. To be competitive in the medical field marketplace, all medical assistants have to be certified through the AMA. The AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) is the association that is responsible for producing the
The Physician Assistant (PA) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) career fields were the medical fields’ response to the physician shortage that began in the 1960s, but the shortage still exists today. As the population continues to grow, the gap continues to grow as well. Medical schools were having a hard time producing as many doctors that were needed to fill in the gaps in a timely manner, leaving the medical field looking for ways they could have health care providers diagnose and treat patients, but educated in half the time of a doctor. The PA program was then born out of the military. Medical doctors watched as military doctors and medics came back, but they had no formal training except for on-the-job training. The NP program was derived from previous midwifery program. Currently, as the physician shortage is still impending more and more PAs and NPs are being hired to fill in the gaps. This is causing many questions to arise: Are they qualified?, What kind of education do they have?, and Should I feel safe?. Patients want to know that they are getting excellent care, and that their medical providers are qualified to diagnose and treat patients accurately.
From a personal standpoint, the history of the physician assistant profession is remarkable, especially in regard to how established the profession became in such a rapid time. Ultimately, the profession was designed with the goal to benefit patients, and as a physician assistant, the approaches to accomplish this goal are infinite. Anyone would be honored to be a part of such an established profession and contribute to such a noble
I am drawn to the PAs ability to not only treat and diagnose independently but to work in a team environment. I relish the idea of working alongside nurses and physicians in choosing the best path of treatment for my patients. I am also attracted to the flexibility of the PA program, which will allow me to change specialties if I desire. Being a team player and having a passion for medicine, I have concluded that a career in the health care field, and more specifically as a physician assistant, is the right path for
I believed in your mission statement, especially, this part, “dedicated to provide high-quality, accessible medical care to underserved communities, regardless of their inability to pay.” I also believed that community health nursing is one of the best ways to reach the most vulnerable and under-served in our society. The reason why I decided to go back to school to become a nurse practitioner was based on my community health care experiences from volunteering in a community based family clinic that served low-come population and doing my community hours during my BSN program. The lack of health literacy that I saw firsthand that exist in underserved population about the importance of preventive care, vaccinations, and chronic illness management
Physician assistant’s scope of practice is defined by the level of education, experience, state laws, facility policies and the supervising physician’s delegations. PAs work as a team with the supervising physician and they support the physician’s scope of practice. Since the physician assistants are also educated in the medical model, PAs also practice with physicians in every specialty and setting.
I seek a PA program that will push me to reach my potential as a clinician and make me feel comfortable along the way. The Northwestern PA Program exceeds my criteria and has numerous qualities that led to my decision to apply. Given that the Northwestern PA Program is well established and has a strong history of PANCE pass rates, I am confident that the education provided will prepare me well as a clinician. Additionally, the curriculum, resources, community and active improvement of the program lead to my decision to apply to the Northwestern PA Program.
There are more than 100,000 certified Physician Assistants practicing medicine in the United States. PA’s have a very high starting salary and get to do a lot of hands on work. After just two years of schooling you can come out making an average of $94,000. Being stuck at a desk all day is dreadful, and physician assistants get to choose what they want their work environment to look like. Job opportunities for a PA are expected to go up by more than thirty percent between 2010 and 2020. When you are a PA you have a huge amount of flexibility to choose your specialization. I know that a PA is the best career choice for me because i love to work with people and enjoy social interaction, i love to have flexibility to be able to spend time with my family, and there are very good benefits and there will always be job openings.
E. Applied Leadership E.2.a I thoroughly enjoyed the Professional Roles and Values course because there were several key things I could utilize in my career. Information from professional nursing organizations was informative and can give new nurses a guideline of the expectations from a professional nurse. New nurses are usually lost when they are right out of nursing school and do not realize the expectations and responsibilies of being a professional even when they are not in the work place. The class renewed my beliefs as a professional nurse about professionalism in the community, interactions with others, decision making, and positive compassionate attitude of a nurse. The course informed me about the roles involved with nurses,
Now, that I have kids of my own school is my only option. Being a full time single mother of two, also a full time student. Coming back to with children taught me to have more patients’ and also how to manage time. These this will help prepare me for this program. I picked your program to attend because your program was ranked top six in the nation, strong and high graduates.
My decision to apply to Dominican University came after I read the bibliography of Ana Maldonado, the MSPAS Program Director. Not being able to asses past graduating class statistics or read firsthand student accounts, I decided to evaluate who was introducing a new PA program. Mrs. Maldonado’s background excited me. I began my Medical Assistant career in Boston, MA, what I consider the mecca for medical innovation, and can only speak volumes about the knowledge and experience I gained. Her history at MCPHS comforted me since I had the pleasure of working with graduates from that program who raved how their professors prepared them well for their careers after graduation. Mrs. Maldonado’s teaching background with Touro University in CA, a well-known,
I have been working at Plainview Oral and Maxillofacial Associates for over six years, and am proud to be associated with some of the best oral surgeons in the region. I believe that this environment has been very valuable in my professional development which would only be enhanced if I were able to attend the highly ranked University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. As I am interested in specializing in oral surgery, I would be able to take advantage of one of the top residency programs in this area. Since the school is in an urban environment, it would also enable me to have a larger exposure to a more diversified patient base and a broader range of cases during clinical rotations. I have been participating in various research
I’m enrolled at Midlands Technical College for the Spring Semester. The program I am enrolled in is the Medical Assisting Program. Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 23 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupants. The growth of the
Throughout my life I have had the opportunity to live in three different regions of the United States. I lived on the east coast, in the south and currently my permanent residency is in California. Living in such areas has allowed me to become more culturally competent. I will be able to use what I have learned to serve large cities as well as rural areas. My life mission is to service underserved communities through medicine. Through research I have seen the need for competent medical care specifically in the state of Indiana. Therefore it has increased my interest in not only attending medical school at Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine but also building a connection with the city and surrounding area, in which I can service the community post graduation.
