In my opinion, I view the notion of pluralism as one that encourages having an open mind and a positive diversity of views towards the coexistence of different groups. According to Diana L. Eck, “pluralism is not just tolerance, but the active seeking of understanding across lines of difference.” After reading her article which is featured in The Pluralism Project at Harvard University, I understand that pluralism requires energetic and committed engagements with diversity. University of Toronto professor Shafique Virani hypothesized that, today, there is a lack of pluralism in relation to the acceptance of religious diversity and beliefs. For example, in his TEDTalk at UTSC, he referenced the association of Christianity with the KKK as well
Diversity- The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about
America is no longer a primarily Christian nation. This has manifested itself in a multitude of ways, including but not limited to: rampant sexual immorality, abuse of mind-altering substances, disregard for human life, and an overall hatred of the concept of authority. All of these things stem back to a faulty understanding of the Biblical concept of Salvation.
In the United States, pluralism is pertinent and very significant for the government because the government itself is distributed with various powers given to the states. These states then give powers to their local governments, which continues to distribute the power. In the government system, there are levels of that consist of branches that control the many different parts of the system, so that no one person or group is given too much power. The United States has a system of checks and balances, which is pertinent to the power system and the pluralist theory ("What is a pluralist theory of government?" 2017).
Nowadays, racism, politics, and prejudices are the cause of boycotting, riots, and injured people lately, but racism is not the issue. We are constantly surrounded by several different types of race, skin color, and culture. Today, people do not pay attention if a person is different because we are all equal, but with different background and we are worth the same. We have all spoken to a person with a different heritage and shared several different priceless moment with at least of person who is different. Cultural pluralism is the best hope for a just and cohesive society.
We can foster a climate of acceptance and cultural pluralism by treating one another with respect and being open minded. We all need to take time out of our lives and actually realize what we are showing the next generation. The youth is what are future is and what is holds, and if we cant even show one another respect for each other, that can you imagine what this place we call home will look like in a couple of years or even further down the road.
Pluralism is a state in which racial and ethnic categories, though distinct, have equal social standing. (Macionis, 2012 pg.84) So in stating what it is we are looking to foster gives us a better idea of what to expect if we do foster a climate of acceptance and cultural pluralism in the United States. Though to get there we need to teach, I mean really teach each other and about one another in every way form what we eat to how we celebrate traditions. We need to get everyone involved as much as possible, which means in schools, jobs, and community. By doing all of this we will have a better understanding of one another which well level out the minorities with the majorities and make acceptance easier all around.
In “Problems and Promise in Pluralism,” Annalee R. Ward argues for academic freedom through the lens of confessional pluralism. Ward challenges the academy to revisit pluralism to ascertain whether various denominations can have an “engagement of differences in creative ways” that allow for coexistence in scholarship” (Eck 9). Although academy insists that pluralism tugs on personal integrity, closer examination show that “authentic peaceful coexistence” is a possible outcome when approached correctly (Ward 5).
This article was truly interesting to me; the author had great ways of putting the reader in the other people’s shoes. I enjoyed how she explored the deep meanings of pluralistic ignorance, and diffusion responsibility because it is something that I never thought too much into detail about. The author went into great detail of seeking to understand the mental process of by standards reactions in certain situations. It was weird for me to think about these two things because it is something that happens to each and everyone without most of us even realizing it. The thing that came to my mind as I read this article was car accidents and how we assume that the people have already gotten help or called the police. People tend to pass car accidents with the assumption that the people in the accident have
Pluralism stems from the idea that “a multitude of groups, not the people as a whole, govern the United States” (Udel.edu). These groups include labor unions, civil rights activists, lobbyists, and environmentalists, as well as many others. Pluralists argue that “Public policy is the outcome of group forces pushing against one another” (Barry 4). Some would say that a Pluralist government is undemocratic, seeing as the power does not lie with individuals, and therefore should not become the American way of life. Pluralists themselves, however, would argue that in fact a democratic government is undesirable, seeing as most everyday people are not educated on politics, and therefore really should not have much of an influence on political decisions. Furthermore, they would argue that Pluralism is

Pluralist vs. Elitist American politics has been associated mostly by a mixture of pluralism and elitism beliefs with no clear winner on which belief is suitable for our country. Both sides have valid points and both have weaknesses. Some believe that pluralism is the most present in American politics. Others believe that Elitism is the most present in American politics. In reality, both are present in our politics.
I am a Prudential Pluralist because for me best life is combination of several values. In my perspective, mental peace is hard to achieve by just focusing and adapting on one single value. I prefer different values because “Life is not linear; you have ups and downs, it’s how you deal with the troughs that defines you”. Following just one value limit my thoughts and make my life unidirectional. As I have examined throughout my life that my views are not always stable, they are different in different situations, so having only one value is not a stable way of living life.
Pluralism is a worldview in which the society members structure their culture based on acceptance and diversity. These common traits all strive for the common good of all and also realize there is some truth in other beliefs (Pluralism, 2015). This worldview stresses the importance of tolerance of other religions but does not however deviate from their own beliefs.
The pluralist approach recognizes that different groups exist within an organization and that conflict can, and does, exist between employer and employees. (Gennard and Judge, 2002, P208)The pluralist perspective is
What does Diversity and Multiculturalism mean to me? I believe that diversity has become so much more than just the basic qualities of race or gender. It now includes all qualities that make everyone unique, as individuals or as part of a larger group. It is also the acceptance, respect, and understanding of these unique qualities that makes diversity work in a given society. Multiculturalism is the system that is centered around the respect for and the promotion of ethnic and or gender diversity in the society. Multiculturalism is the status of several different ethnic, racial, religious or cultural groups co-existing in the same society. Today, in the U.S. we already
