The Andes are ideal for potatoes because they flourish and grow in a cool environment with elevations exceeding 12,000 feet. The Inca of Peru were the first to cultivate the potato around 4,500 years ago; they often worshiped them and even buried them with their dead.

The fresh potato supply chain is highly unorganised and characterised by involvement of various players and risks factor. There is no storage facilities for fresh potatoes and the reason found was not because of the unavailability of cold storages but due to instant demand of cash from the sale required by various players in the supply chain. There is avoidance of any storages and potatoes are entitled to be sold within 3 days from the farm gate. The bulk buyers are hotels, restaurants and take aways who require for processing. Even there is negiligible demand of export market of Ugandan fresh potatoes. Founded on August 14th 1947, after gaining independence from Great Britain, Pakistan is located in South East Asia bordering Afghanistan and India. With a population of about 189 million, most of whom are Sunni Muslim, Pakistan is a country that falls under the lower middle income bracket, and where most inhabitants reside in rural areas. The country’s government, which is a federally parliamentary republic is one that works as both a democratic and dictatorship regime ("The World Factbook — Central Intelligence Agency", 2016). The country’s gross national income per capita is about $5,090 and about 12.7 percent of the population survive on less that $1.25 a day ("GNI per capita, Atlas method (current US$) | Data", 2015; "The World Factbook — Central Intelligence Agency", 2016). Over the last decade, Pakistan has faced its share of disasters; both natural and artificial. It was struck by a massive earthquake in 2005 and continues to be fixed with religious and militant groups in its northern regions. Compromised regions of security make health care access problematic. Pakistan 's population will also be a future concern for health care delivery. A consistently high population growth rate exceeding 2% annually has led to Pakistan being quite a young nation with over 35% of its population being under the age of 14 years old. A key health indicator that was a focus for Pakistan is its infant mortality rate which has failed to remain on target with the Millennium Development Goals. In fact, the last accurate data for IMR was in 2007 with 63 deaths

Development of quality practices, augmented with traceability management systems are at place. Supply Chain improvements to enhance product freshness, optimal servicing of proximal markets and margin expansion will continue to receive significant attention. Achieve zero effluent discharges, providing treated wastewater for irrigation as an alternative for farmers in water stressed areas and enhancing rainwater harvesting both within units and across watershed catchment areas are some of the goals. Automation in India is widespread in most industries. Even for manufacture of biscuits, imported machinery is available which will help in mass production and reap benefits of economies of scale. So the technological know-how and equipments are available for development of the biscuits industry.
