UNIT 7 ASSIGNMENT 1
In Unit 7 we have been looking at group cultures in the workplace and identifying who they are there. As well as what makes you part of what group. In learning this I have learned, every work field and workplace has different work group cultures. The dental field is no different there are a lot just in the office everyday. The term culture means: specific set of social, educational, religious, and professional behaviors, practices, or values that individuals learn and adhere to daily, including communication styles, customs, dress, cultural beliefs, and societal

Their uniforms consist of a non uniform. Dentists wear what they want as long as they have a lab coat over it being they don’t work too much with patients as much as dental assistants do. They are in the office until a something like a filling or extraction comes along.
They have the same language like dental assistants but they too consist of young and old so they do things differently. Young dentist use new technology to assess patients, they wear gloves and don’t have to do much hands on being a lot of things are electronic now. The old dentist who have been doing this 30 plus years don’t wear gloves, they don't really like electronics so they take more time doing everything by hand. They don’t have anyone to answer to they are the boss and that what makes them there own group too.
The final group I am going to explain is the front office. They are a group of there own due to a few things. They don’t have to have a dental background, they work in the front rarely seeing any of the action. They are the ones to take care of insurance scheduling appointments, faxing, phone call, and mail. They are the first people patients see. They have there own language it is business terms. They uniform varies from office to office but it is the same as there fellow front desk workers but different then they’re dental assistant co workers. As you can see the groups are different butt, have similarity.
UNIT 7 ASSIGNMENT
Society has progressed both socially and technologically as has medicine. This includes our understanding of health and healing as evidenced by Dossey’s three eras of medicine. Era 1, beginning in the 1800’s, reflected the prevailing view that health and illness are totally physical in nature and therapies included surgical procedures and drugs. Era 2, starting in the 1950’s, related to the mind and body. Practitioners began to realize that emotions and feelings can impact health. Era 3, still developing today, began in the 1990’s and builds on the previous eras by adding the spirit and proposes that consciousness is not confined to one’s
When you meet someone for the first time every detail is being noticed; from your entrance, wardrobe, handshake, etiquette, and voice quality and speech (Center for Professional Communication, 2014). First impressions are lasting ones and the first step in building long lasting relationships. A person must be aware of their presence and understand themselves to have a confident professional presence.
Nature of the work for a dental hygienist is a wide range of challenges. Dental hygienist plays as the side kick of the dentist to better help their patient’s oral health conditions. The reason I mentioned theirs a wide variety of responsibilities is because different states have certain regulations on practices dental hygienist can actually do. Procedures like patient screening, head and neck inspection, and dental charting. Also, taking X-Rays, and removing plaque from all surfaces of the teeth. Dental hygienist also applies sealants and fluorides to the patient’s teeth and gums to help prevent diseases from forming. The information I conducted from my dental hygienist Linda. She noted that she teaches her patients proper instructions on flossing, and brushing teeth, and also nutrition counseling. Make an impression on their patient’s teeth for study casts which is models of teeth used by the dentist to evaluate patient treatment needs (Linda Smith). Finally, dental hygienist performs documentation and office activities. Academy of General Dentistry gave me the sources
Dental hygienists play an important role in the dental care facilities since they apply their knowledge on every case by removing tartar, stains, and plaque from teeth. They are in charge of applying sealants and fluorides to the teeth in order to protect them, they take and develop x-rays which helps them determine the patient 's vocal health and then present all this information through a report for the dentists to see. Once they have documented the patient 's care, they begin a treatment plan for each patient. They also educate their patients about the oral health and techniques they should apply and how to brush and floss the teeth accurately. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016-17, p.2) Dental hygienists apply critical thinking, compassion towards their patients, interpersonal skills, and dexterity while on their jobs and are supposed to be very detail oriented since they work on small parts of the body and need precise use of the tolls. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016-17, p.4).
Ever since I was in middle school, I would tell everyone that I was going to become a dentist. That was my career plan until the summer of my junior year. During that summer, I had the opportunity to do an internship and job shadow Dr. Bradshaw at his private dental office. While observing and talking to the doctor, I realized that I would not enjoy working as a dentist. I still wanted to pursue a career in the dental field so I decided to job shadow the dental hygienists. Watching the dental hygienists perform their duties and interact with patients made me want to pursue a career in dental hygiene. I knew very little about dental hygienists besides the fact that they clean teeth. As I spent time with the dental hygienists, I learned more each day. While researching for this paper, I became knowledgeable on even more information. From reading The Occupational Outlook Handbook and A Career as a Dental
Healthcare, and Medicine is advancing more and more each day. As healthcare workers, our understanding of health and healing has improved and changed in the way we care for our patients. Dossey believed in the three eras of medicine. Era 1 began in the 1800s and its focus was solely on the body. The belief that healing and overall health are totally physical. The therapies and treatment were either medications or surgical procedures. The thought that healing all humans based on bodily functions, and how they can be treated will change as time changes. Era 2 began in the 1950s and it focused on the mind and body. Health care providers realized that
What does it mean to be human, and how do we as nurses provide care to our patients? According to Jean Watson “The future of nursing is tied back to Nightingales sense of calling guided by a sense of commitment and covenantal ethic of human service; cherishing our phenomena, our subject matter and those we serve. It is when we include caring and love in our work and our life we discover and affirm that nursing, like teaching is more than just a job but a life giving and life receiving career for a lifetime of growth and learning” (Watson, J. 1978). There have been many different

A dental assistant must be able to work well with others because they are the second pair of hands for the dentist. A dental assistant must be able to understand the dentist and communicate with the dentist to provide proper tools and assistance. Assistants must be very reliable and have excellent manual dexterity so that they can provide the best service to the dentist and to the patient that they are working with. Dental assistants will also have to be knowledgeable on how to properly sterilize and disinfect equipment and instruments and how to set up and lay out instruments and materials for each patient. They must obtain and update patients records as needed and ensure that their patients are comfortable at all times.
A1. Models of Health and Healing- The candidate provides a logical discussion, with substantial detail, of the differences between 2 models of health and healing as they relate to what it means to be human.
Professional presence is something of a nebulous concept. Before this course, I honestly never considered what it was and how my nursing practice was defined by it. During my journey through this course I discovered what it truly meant. “Presence is an intersubjective encounter between a nurse and a patient in which the nurse encounters the patient as a unique human being in a unique situation and chooses to spend her/himself on the patient’s behalf’’ (Wingate, 2007). Presence defines how a person interacts with those around them, and particularly in the healthcare field, it’s incredibly important.
1. Era I – “Mechanical Medicine” began in the 1860’s. Its focus is on surgical procedures and drugs. The thought was that health and illness are only physical in nature and consciousness is equated to functioning of the brain. Era I thinking in displayed in review of psychiatric care in the early 1900 with the use of frontal lobotomies to cure hysteria. The thought was that performing a surgical procedure on the brain will remove the area that is causing the Hysteria. Era I focuses on performing a procedure or providing a medication to fix the body physically, while Era III takes into account the patients perception of health, their stats of mind and their support
Parkhaven Dental is a moderately sized private dental office that closely resembles the structure of a group practice. An unique aspect I saw in this practice was the strong emphasis on patient satisfaction through excellent communication between staff, dentist, and patient to maximize the quality of continuity of care. This shadowing experience taught me the importance of teamwork in an office full of different professionals including dental hygienists and various specialized dentists.
I currently work in the logistics industry for the federal government. In this essay, I will discuss how I remain competitive in my industry and how I would present myself to prospective employers. My specific role within the logistics industry is that of a transportation assistant, helping members of the Army and civilians associated with the Army transport their household goods for job-related moves.
Besides sharpening, the clinicians also were busy looking over their patient’s medical and dental histories and took notes. At 9am sharp, patients walked into the treatment area and were seated to begin with their appointment. However, I learned that there will be times when patients are either no shows or turn up late. During these times, the clinician needs to contact the patient and find out the reason and make arrangements if necessary to reschedule or try and fill the appointment time with another patient, if possible. It is also important to build a rapport, especially with new patients, by initiating small talk, the clinician learns tiny details about the patient’s social and personal history. This rapport is crucial as it helps the patient open up and be honest during the medical/dental history portion of the assessment. During the perio assessment, I observed the clinician instrumentation skills involving probing the entire dentition and the clock
