Psychology Career Goals

Career goals and education at this point is getting my generals done and transferring to a university. My career goals are pretty open, with thoughts toward two complete different fields: business management or early childhood development. A lot of challenges have come from my education. Yes, I went to school my whole life but I changed school around seven different times before settling in one location. My family often moved around a lot because my parents work required us to be close to the surrounding area. I feel that the Duquesne Psychology program has helped me prepare for careers or graduate school in relevant fields, though there could be some improvements. As an individual who is interested in two fields, one being Integrated Marketing Communications, this leaves me with a lot of possible career paths after university. I am interested in graduate school, but feel as though I need to take some time off before pursing it. After I take this time off, I may pursue graduate school, which I feel that the department has helped me with through the course of university. Though I am scared and nervous of what the future may hold, I know that my time at Duquesne in the psychology curriculum has made me an excellent candidate for a career or graduate

My specific career ideas are still a little vague, but, I do know mental health is something that I am going to pursue in one way or another. Mental health has always intrigued me a little because I had an Uncle with schizophrenia, I never met him and my Mom’s family doesn’t really talk about him a whole lot, but I still think about him a lot. I got to see what happened with his family after, but I can’t see how they were before, and I will always wonder about how he might have influenced my life. My interest in mental health became more directed when I took my first psychology class, the introductory psychology class at Montgomery college in the fall of 2014. I really liked it, partially thanks to the teacher I had, but mostly because it gave me a better understanding of what mental health is. The next psychology class I took was on personalities and it confirmed that psychology and mental health are something I truly am passionate about.

My interests in Clinical Psychology are aimed toward abnormal psychology and counseling. Psychotherapy comes with the job title of becoming a Clinical Psychologist, which I find the most interesting sector of this profession. While attending San Jose State University I have learned a lot about other careers other than Clinical Psychology, for example – becoming a social worker, human resource management, child psychologist and a probation officer. These are careers I also would consider doing after graduating college.

My entire life I have always been on the search of a career that would fit my persona, fit who I truly am, and to become someone who will constantly have the ability to help people through their difficult problems that they face. When I enrolled into Bryan collage I knew I wanted to work in the psychology field, but not sure what specific area. Honestly, to this day I am still undecided. Working in the school system seems like a job I would enjoy, but there is so much controversy about budgets and cut backs so that scares me a little. I work with children now and their parents so I think I could handle this job daily with no problems. However, I feel drawn to work on the clinical side and have for some time now. There are so many people out there who need help makes me want to join the field that much more. I have nothing but respect for anyone already working in it.

They have to have an experience of a 1-2 year internship to qualify for a license but first they have to earn a Psy.D. Psychologists are very important people; they help millions of people with their everyday struggles and problems that they have to deal with. Not only do psychologists help people with problems that they cannot handle on their own, they also are scientists who study human minds and behaviors.

I believe that the answers to the greatest questions and problems in life could be gained through a better understanding of the human mind. Psychology is a study of human behaviors and trying to understand why we do the things we do. Because of this I would be interested in a career in psychology though there are many different career fields within psychology. I would be most interested in a career in health psychology though there’s an extensive learning process. It is important to understand the education or training requirements,skills,and talents needed salary and benefits offered and duties for a particular career when making this decision.

Psychology is the study of the mind, its biology, and behavior if the individual. I want to be a psychologist. I would love to learn all about the way people act, think and feel and at the same time try to help them.
