In this memo, I have chosen three topics to submit for my research project this semester in English 210.
The final will consist of two parts: the posttest on their content knowledge, which is the second data collection instrument, and two essays based on the learning targets for the unit. As this study is about the effect of teaching disciplinary literacy, the review will focus on the essays with instruction on how to write like a historian. The literacy technique being employed in this case is the writing process. Step one is brainstorming: students will use all of their notes, assignments and readings to collect all relevant information in a brainstorming exercise. Step two is outlining: they will make an outline of what they plan to write for each target by identifying the best evidence and the order in which to write it. Step three is writing a rough draft of their answer. Step four is proofreading, during which time they will trade their rough drafts with their neighbor and proofread for accuracy, clarity, organization and use of evidence. Students will not write a final draft at this point, as the final draft will be the two essays on the test the next

At the beginning of this cource, we have learned how to use different writing syles such as MLA. Moreover, we have learned how to cite credidet sources to support the arguments and major poitns of the esaay. Following with constant practies in the classroom and working on assigned homeworks, I have learned how to cite properly. I think it is importat to mention that I have also made minor errors, when it comes to indicating the singal phrase. For instance I started my “Biomedical Engineer” essay with and introduction based on a summary from what I have found on UC Bereley’s website (“Introduction”). Yet I have not mentioned anything about the source as a signal phrase. Referring to the grading rubrics of all of my four essays, I am confidnet that my overall documentaion skills have imroved over the time. Above all, documentation is a part of personnal responsibility skills, which is one this course’s objectives.
The instructor briefly described the standards of academic writing including Audience, Purpose and Strategy, Style, Language, Usage, Voice, Flow, Grammar, Bias, Consistency, Spellings, Punctuation, Heading, Fonts. She mentioned how important it is to understand and apply these issues in our papers.
The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate the ability to use a range of online resources and tools such as those covered in the multi-part activity which are, book evaluation, journal article evaluation, Curriculum Vitae (CV) writing and the insite workbook. By completing the multi-part assessment, skills in understanding referencing and citation as well as being able to select credible resources will be demonstrated within this assignment.
I am pleased to declare that I have learned much that I did not know prior to taking this course. Throughout my high school years, the standard format of research papers was MLA. Although different classes reiterated how to properly format resources used and in-text citations, I unfortunately cannot seem to remember any of it, albeit the basic font restriction of Times New Roman in 12 point size (of course). What I can recall is the countless hours spent trying to figure out how to properly list my references for research papers, a frequent occurrence that frustrated me to no end. Fortunately, I have found that English Composition I has been the opposite. With the rules and guidelines set forth by the professor, I can foresee no subsequent issues properly executing in-text citations and reference lists necessary in the papers I will surely write in the near future. This new knowledge will undoubtedly calm my stressed mind in the weeks to follow, though I fear that it cannot quiet my qualms with this present piece.
