Thesis: Since many students have an after school job, may be involved in sports, and have chores and duties they are expected to do at home, teachers should not assign any homework to students.
The first reason why students should not have homework is because students have jobs after school therefore they do not have time to do their homework. A. Students with a after school job should not get homework because they are actually trying to be an adult and make money unlike homework where they do not get paid. B. For example, some students have jobs that start right after school, and they would not get done until nine o'clock at night therefore they have no time to do their homework. C. Some students do not have a job that starts right after,

This shows that students need a break from school, so they can go have fun doing what they like to do like play rehearsals. F. Some school sports are physical, but some are mental, and they both will tire a student out. G. For example, if a student is in a play, most of that is mentally because they have to memorize their lines, but if a student is in a athletic sport, then that is more physical because they would have to run or lift weights. H. Students in a after school curriculum are working really hard in that curriculum to succeed, so they do not need any more work from school when hey already spend most of their time in school. I. For example, sports do not end until later in the evening therefore students do not really have time for their homework. J. Students in a after school activity needs some sort of break from homework to enjoy the activity they are in.
The third reason why students should not have homework is because students have chores and duties to do after school at home, so they should not do extra work from school at home. A. Most students live on a farm or out in the country therefore they have chores to do like feed the animals, and they should not get extra work for helping their
A. Since, grading in PE is focused more on attendance than effort, many students are not
Kids shouldn't have homework. Kids have stuff to do like sports, spending time with family and working. Instead of doing 6 or so hours of homework every night. “homework came in behind not only socializing but also exercise or sports as well as working for pay.” (Gazette, par. 24) I agree because some students have to rush to get their homework done at lunch or before school because they either have sports or have to go to work everyday.
By not giving out homework, students will work harder in class and have better grades. Teachers have to understand that if students are tired from late nights, they wouldn't be able to work efficiently during the day. In addition, students would be much more excited to come to school because they know they wouldn't have to worry about getting any homework. In 2010, a survey was taken and it showed that about 70% of teen ages 11 to 17 get less than 8 hours of sleep per day due to the amount of homework they have to do (Logos). According to Alfie Kohen, students feel forced to do their homework, therefore they aren't learning as much as they should (Ethos). Students lose interest in the topic and do not benefit from what they’re learning. In China, a cry for change by a mother who lost her thirteen year old daughter who committed suicide due to her inability to achieve in math, the mother considers homework is a huge negative factor toward her deceased daughter's tragic ending along with the pressure of society (Pathos). Such a story should leave us wondering, how many more children need to suffer the silent epidemic of school stress. Statistics prove the leading cause for the majority of physical and emotional complaints leading up to diagnosis of depression in middle and high school due to the amount of
The amount of homework given to students should decrease. The extensive amount of homework takes away family time that is necessary to child development. Also, stress that can can come with homework can cause health issues. The amount of homework given to students can cause students to cheat off students answers because they did not finish. Also, most of the homework that is assigned is not necessary in learning the material.
b. According to Dr. Brian Ray (2011). Students are engaged in social and educational activities.
Sometimes our parents have no time to help us because they have their jobs. Then if we can’t get any help it’s going to be either a late grade or an F because we can’t get a good grade without a complete assignment. Our parents could also have a goodnight sleep without having to worry about us failing their classes because of homework. Teachers will also gain out of no homework because they don’t have to deal with grading messy handwriting and awful grammar. They don’t have to stay up however long it takes just to grade all the papers their students. It’s especially hard for middle school teachers and up because there are so many kids and so many different classes. Teachers can go anywhere they want if their lesson plan is finished for the next day if there is no homework. They won’t have to deal with angry kids, teens and yelling at them if they’re failing school because of homework. Homework is keeping everyone up.
A. Imagine these students being able to go out and socialize with their friends and not have to worry about lack of money because they don’t have time for a job.
c. This is a huge difference compared to life in high school where student tends to be a passive learner in high school because teacher in every class comes to help you without asking, like providing a study guide on test that way you know what to study for.
Shopping at the mall and hanging out with friends is much more important than doing homework. Why are students required to do homework anyway? It’s a waste of time so they should not be required to do homework. Homework is causing stress, which is resulting in students spending less quality time with their families as well as with their friends. It is also causing students to feel burned out and to not be engaged with school as they should be. Even though students need to learn how to manage their time more effectively, including budgeting time to complete homework assignments, they should not be required to do homework. Students should not be required to do homework because it stresses out students.
All schools in the United States should make homework optional. In today's education system every student is required to go to school from ages starting from 5 up until he/she is 17 or 18. We teach all of our students that there is no way around hard work and if you want to make a living you must do what your told, and that is going to school, getting good grades, and potentially going to college and finding a job. This is unquestionable, whether a student agrees with it or not this will never change, but this is not the disputed point.
According to a study at Premont Independent School District in Premont, Texas, 80% of students passed their classes in contrast to 50% the previous school year after the removal of sports. (Ripley, 11). In addition, according to Ripley, “about 160 people attended parent-teacher night, compared with six the year before” (11). This data proves that more freetime will benefit students; they will complete homework on time and be able to study more. Therefore, schools that want their students to have more time to successfully complete homework given to them should take away after school
The first reason teachers should give students less homework is that it takes away their childhood. When a student goes to school for seven hours a day, and then goes home to three hours of homework, they do not get to be a kid. It is suggested that student adopt an eight-eight-eight schedule. This schedule being eight
Teachers should assign less homework to allow students more time to sleep, to engage in more physical activity, and spend more quality time with their families.
3. Students are able to work in an environment that has fewer distractions in an effort to stay on task.
Thesis: Everybody including schools and parents, rely on homework to figure out a student’s progress, to enrichen skills, and have a better success rate.
