Are individuals being exposed to stress management techniques? By recognizing stress in the workplace, employers can act appropriately to reduce stress. The outcome can benefit social and family relationships, as well as preserve ones health and make people more productive in organizations.
There are many different broad definitions of stress and how to cope with it, known as stress management.
There are numerous challenges that organizations are faced with in order for them to survive and grow. These challenges are mainly faced by people who are tasked with making decisions on a daily basis within the organizations because a majority of the challenges are human based. The employees working in an organization are likely to suffer from occupational stress depending on their work. Occupational stress comes along when an employee is faced with demands within the workplace, and they are not able to complete or carry out these demands. The failure to complete the demands placed upon them would cause the employee mental and physical strain as their body would have a physiological reaction. According to research there are various factors that contribute to stress in the workplace. These factors include isolation, extensive working hours, negative workloads, unhealthy working environments, harassment, bullying by management, and lack of motivation or advancement opportunities. The factors mentioned are not exhaustive as there might be other causes to occupational stress depending on the individual or employees.
In my work place setting, I work for a agency who works with families with children that are autistic or have behavioral problems. Moreover, with my job being an agency there are significant amount of flaws within this organization. Agencies in general seem to have many flaws. Furthermore, I experience a few stressors that effect me daily. One stressor that I experience is having to go to weekly supervision every Friday without pay. This is a stressor for me because my job location is not as close to my house, granted about 25 minutes from my home. So, the stress for me is driving all the way to my job location just to speak on actions of my client that are consistent each week. Other jobs that I have applied to previously compensate their workers for supervision weekly or give the option to have phone conferences about our clients.
The major stress in my life is chores. This only because I have so much to remember. I am a forgetful person. My mom will tell me certain things to do and I’ll forget them. This makes mom mad and I get in trouble. This affects me emotionally by making me sad. I also run my mind ragged trying to remember. My mom will give me 4 chores and I’ll remember 1 one of them. If I do not get them done, my mom take my phone and ground me. I wish I could remember everything so I wouldn’t get in trouble. I get affected physically because the stress makes me tired and sometimes I stress eat. I sleep alot and I gain weight a lot. I am skinny but I do gain weight. I don’t really manage my stress. Sometimes I try to write down the chores my parents tell me. I just don’t remember to everytime.
Many believe that stress is a simple problem, however it is often misunderstood and more complex than they believe (p. 181, Griffin & Moorhead, 2014). Stress is the physiological and psychological response to excessive and usually unpleasant stimulation as well as threatening events in the environment (p. 284, Schultz and Schultz, 2010). Stress appears in silent and subtle ways but this negative response affects millions of employees in all levels of all types of jobs (p. 284, Schultz and Schultz, 2010). If identified
Chronic stress is a long-term stress. I’ve recently experienced chronic stress at my workplace. I have been working at a movie theater for a few years now, and the pressure of it has been building up. At my work place, we are constantly pushed to upsell to the customer, and it has been getting more and more stressful. As much as we understand that the customer does not want to purchase something other then their chosen concession snacks, it is obligatory for us each to offer and attempt to upsell as much as possible. Working in this high-pressure environment, has often caused me to feel psychologically and emotionally drained. Physiologically, l come home from work extremely tired from standing up and running around all day. Sometimes, my
I am my own worst enemy when it comes to time management. I know what has to be accomplished for the day and I usually always run out of time. I have five teenagers still at home and while they are a huge help majority of the time there are days that they are very tempormental. If they are having an off day they argue over any little thing, which tends to knock the evening schedule off its axis. I am a full time student with the usual everyday life activities as well as after school sports. I am an organizer and while my home is organized my time schedule is not. When things do not flow smoothly I tend to get very stressed.
