Chapter 1: Introduction
Our research topic is stress and life satisfaction and academic performance. With this research topic, our group hopes to find out certain pressing matters that affect the daily livelihood of University students. In general, our research findings will try to answer these questions through the use of descriptive statistics. To make this finding valid, we are using quota sampling and convenience sampling methods to collect the data from the samples. The samples we choose is the undergraduate psychology students.
We will review and rehearse certain journals that correspond with our topic at hand. From our lateral understanding of these topics, we intend to draw inspiration and formalities of academic from the

The study used a 5-item Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) developed by Diener et al. (1985) to measure undergraduate student's life satisfaction and were measured using a 5-point Likert scale, ranging from 1 = strongly disagree to 5 = strongly agree with a high overall reliability of 0.78 in this study. Students were asked to state their degree of satisfaction with several aspects of life including educational experience, academic performance, friendships, health and living environment. Results show that there was a significant negative correlation between the two variables with higher levels of perceived stress associated with lower levels of satisfaction with life (Alleyne & Greenidge, 2010)
Next, the study conducted by Kamarudin Rafidah, Aris Azizah, Mohd Daud Norzaidi, Siong Choy Chong, Mohamed Intan Salwani and Ibrahim Noraini from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia and Putra International College, Melaka, Malaysia was to examine the relationship between stress factors (health, social and academic) and the level of perceived stress at three different periods of a semester (beginning, middle and end) and their impact on the academic performance of Pre-Diploma Science students at the University of Technology MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. The population of the Pre-Diploma Science students for the June-November 2005 intake in the campus was 242 and all of the students were chosen as subjects for the survey. 154 complete responses were returned out of the
The minority students should have a higher tendency to experience stress than their counterparts. Researchers found that stressors are common in academic settings and are mostly associated with their language, nationality and cultural backgrounds. The historical alienation and length of residency have an impact on these groups (Rienties, Beausaert, Grohnert, Niemantsverdriet, & Kommers, 2012). Male and female students experience stress differently. They frequently vary in how they experience, perceive and handle stressful life events. The possible explanation for such difference
Is there a significant difference in the level of stress management of the students under.
It is important to know how to manage stress in academic life as it is learning about how to balance work and academic life. It is also important for students after graduating and creates self-awareness such as weakness in them.
In addition, life satisfaction has a positive effect on social skills and self-esteem. Alternatively, life satisfaction can negatively lead to substance abuse, drinking and driving, and possible mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. From this study, the results show 's us that the higher level of education of the parents the higher perceived social status.
Students in higher or older grades are prone to having a much higher stress level than students and learners of a lower grade. Students are stressed because of the hard study work that they need to prepare themselves for before writing their exams. They also worry about getting their work done in time and having deadlines for projects and speeches. Many students feel as though they are unprepared or feel like they have not worked and studied hard
Isolated and other journal or magazines, Scholarly journals' scholars are educators, graduate understudies, or powers who have had a not too dreadful measure of direct relationship in making academic journals. While the subject may have all the earmarks of being stupefied, they use their vocabulary and their industry understanding how to sufficiently differentiate and unmistakable get-togethers of spectators. Their inclination makes insightful journals a remarkable resource for understudies and diverse experts
They cohere together due to the fact that at times, this job may consist of analysing such journals and articles. This further emphasizes and proves the point that writing in the field is very apparent and is used on an everyday basis.
It was confirmed by Perceived Stress Scale in the questionnaire for every student. Therefore, the variables were appropriate for the hypothesis.
Like many of the questionnaires utilized for research in the articles used for this literature review, it was anonymous, and administered and collected during class. This form of data collection provided high turn in rates allowing researchers to have a wide study scale. According to Hicks, T., & Heastie, S., contrasting levels of stress and coping mechanisms were present in these students. It was noted that traditional college students experience more psychological stress than their nontraditional student counterparts. In addition, during the first year of college, the amount of stress experienced by students is the highest in comparison to stress in the remainder of the years. These results are especially important because it stresses the need for a strong health and wellness center within colleges and universities.
Stress mindset: coping mechanisms to the rescue If you ask students to think of a few words that describe their university experience, stressful might be one that comes up frequently. In fact, stress is linked to a plethora of less than desirable factors. Namely, accelerated aging, headaches and even premature death (Epel, 2009; Martin, Lae & Reece, 2007; Vlastelica, 2008)! A common factor in these studies is that stress is viewed as a negative body reaction because it leads to moderate to serious medical issues. Stress seems to have garnered a bad reputation. However, what some may not realize is that stress can be advantageous and what it comes down to is a positive stress mindset. This study will consider how under certain circumstances, a positive stress
Thesis: Today I will discuss about sources and effects of student stress and efficient ways to manage this emotional and physical strain.
Stress is no new phenomenon. It’s been around as long as man and has captivated scholars and physicians alike. With the growing demand for degrees in the professional world comes the growth of the number of college students. The relationship between stress and college students has become the subject of on-going research. Several studies show that stress in college students is increasing with time and the authors of those studies are attributing this to an increased number of students. Other research seems to indicate that it isn’t necessarily the stress that is increasing but the awareness of it. Increased awareness of stress, and its unique toll on individuals, allows colleges and students to recognize
Satisfaction with life a very useful measure to understand whether or not one needs to change their ways of life in order to be more fulfilled. The purpose of the study is to extrapolate the correlation between satisfaction with life and extroversion, satisfaction with life and fear of negative evaluation, and satisfaction with life and mate-seeking. For satisfaction with life, I used the Satisfaction with Life Scale, and SPSS was employed to statically evaluate the results. The results indicate that satisfaction with life is positively correlated
Psychological stress is pressure placed on a person to adapt, cope, or adjust to a situation (Rathus, 2016, p.284). The result of prolonged stress can affect a person’s mood, pleasure experience, and have harmful effects on physical health (Rathus, 2016, p.284). Society in the twenty first century places high demands on people. Technology makes it very difficult to separate work life, school life, and home life. Today, society places a high value on a busy lifestyle for individuals. For example, many places of business are open twenty-four hours a day. In addition to societal pressures, attending a university adds to the stressors a person may experience. Going to school not only includes classroom time but it also includes homework,
Newth (2011) claims that modern day stress seems to be more widespread than ever causing interference with human intellect, emotional and interpersonal functioning. Therefore; I suggest that students will encounter stress and it will impact their academic performance. In this fast pace and performance driven society each organization needs well performing people. The only way we will know what people require to become productive and less stressed is to explore topics as my research question. The topic
