Drops of sweat flow from the temple of my head to my locked jaw. Holding 200 pounds of iron overhead, knowing this amount of weight could shatter my ribs. Every rep is a like a battle between my body and my mind. Arms and chest on fire, while struggling for air, I continued to push the dense barbell skyward. Rep after rep, my body screams in desperation; this is too much weight. What was I thinking? All Robert Young’s life, he has always been an athletic person. It wasn’t until about three years ago that he discovered his favorite sport would be bodybuilding. Initially, he started lifting because he knew it would improve my performance in boxing. Very quickly he began to love not only what it was doing for my body, but also his mind. …show more content…
I was raging with anger. Even when I rode down the street I wanted to close my eyes because fast food restaurant’s are on every corner and looking at McDonalds promote their famous, juicy mouth-watering Big Mac made me want to pull in the drive through and place my unhealthy order” he says. Surrounded by a world that doesn’t give an individual a healthy choice makes eating healthy nearly impossible. Statistic show Americans sees over a thousand fast food commercials on television every year, and hundreds more from McDonald's than any other brand. (Website) Furthermore, Robbie finds that he has to use his mind while lifting to consciously focus on the contraction of each rep." If my mind wasn't set on a positive aspect I wouldn’t have made it through training" Robbie says.
The sport is not about how good you look in a bathing suit, contrary to what you might think. Rather, it is about using the weight as a tool with which to sculpt the body. Maintaining mental focus in the face of excruciating pain is a hard thing to do; and while the body may be performing every rep, the mind is overall controlling the
All athletes regardless of age, gender, genetics or sport can benefit from effective training. It is important that the selected training improves the body’s ability to perform tasks associated with the chosen
One of the most unhealthy diets in the world is that of an American. It is made up of processed foods and a good amount of television. America easily has the most fast food restaurants in the entire world. Leave it to McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King or any other fast-food restaurant to serve extremely cheap and even unhealthier food at any time during the day or night. ”It tastes good so why not?” That seems to be the question many people are asking now-a-days. Because it is so easily accessible and processed, it is made to be very tasty and extremely unhealthy. Many Americans find his or herself indulging on the these fatty foods of America on a day-to-day basis. While it may taste good at the time, it has a terrible effect on your body
The fast food industry encourages the public to buy their food through advertisement and even reward systems, but the general public is too naive or generally don’t care enough about their well being to attempt to eat a healthier diet. Today I believe the general public is leaning more towards a healthier diet with the constant knowledge being produced daily on
I. IntroductionBecause of the omnipotence of fast food chains in America, when we feel the urge for an easy meal, Americans, in general, immediately look to the fast food nation for a quick suppression to their hunger. Because we live in a time-is-money society the most efficient means of hunger satisfaction is the almighty drive-through. Corporations spend billions of dollars advertising to enhance sales of their products. With American catching on to the lack of healthy food options in the fast food nation, fast food chains began campaigning healthier food such as their salads and fruit cups. However salads may sound healthy but a Southwest Salad with Grilled Chicken from McDonalds has 320 calories and 90 grams of fat. Where's the "healthy" in that. Now that Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. we need to re-evaluate the importance of healthy eating. By increasing awareness of the
After a year of weightlifting I realized that I was no longer doing this for anybody other than me. I was doing this to become the best me. My actions in the weight room are not as far-fetched compared to the
Have you ever worked out so hard that you puked? There are two workouts that have caused me to do this in fact. Achieving this requires a vast amount of physical and mental effort. When I first started working out I couldn’t lift a large amount of weight. Since then I have gained much more strength than before I started lifting weights in Mr. V’s class.
Kilgore et al used many differing data collection methods but based the majority of the findings from books in strength training, power lifting and weightlifting books. Within those books there is a range of qualitative and quantitative research evidence filtered into this book, as well as photo analysis which is shown throughout giving clear precise information and images to back the overall
Mike Adams, a widely influential health advocate, once explained that, “Today, more than 95% of all chronic disease is caused by food choice, toxic food ingredients, nutritional deficiencies and lack of physical exercise,” (Group). Because people’s diets contribute so immensely to staying healthy, individuals should prioritize eating nutritious food. Unfortunately, more than 232 thousand fast food establishments thrive in the United States, and nearly half of Americans dine at these restaurants multiple times a week (Fast Food Eating Statistics). Because of the tempting flavors, immediate satisfaction, and economical prices, restaurants like McDonalds, Chick-fil-a, and Carl’s Jr. have become symbols of
In today’s world most people are already too lazy to make healthy decisions. That’s ultimately why we have fast food so people do not have to think about what we are eating. Fast food chains take advantage of our laziness after a long day at work or a stressful day of school. “Consumers spend more than half their food dollars outside of the
In the article, Unique Aspects of Competitive Weightlifting: Performance, Training and Physiology, researchers Adam Storey and Heather K. Smith study weightlifting as a dynamic strength and power sport and began to determine the optimal environment and factors for peak performance. The researchers measured the highest absolute and relative peak power outputs reported in order to determine the best possible programs and routines for optimal output. They further explained how the training routine of competitive weightlifters is described as the recurrent use of high-intensity resistance exercise movements. Also the individual workouts themselves were broken down further. The researchers examined the training techniques of former Soviet Union athletes and determined that they had performed nearly 25000 exercise repetitions per year. Of which 15 – 30 % of these lifts were competition lifts. Through examination of the Bulgarian team training, they lifted significantly less attempts but 45% of their work was through competition lifts. While 40% of these lifts were complementary lifts, and an additional 5% were supplemental and cross-training exercises. The remaining 10% of training was used as a warm-up to prepare the muscles. These coaching and training philosophies were studied in order to be able to determine the best type of training program for both male and female weightlifters of various age groups.
Although there is a ton of obvious issues, the unnoticed reason why so many Americans are losing their touch on a healthy lifestyle is the amount of fast food chains dotted around all over the landscape. These restaurants are open twenty-four—seven and can get freshly processed food out in mere minutes. What people do not realize,
Close your eyes and picture the inside of your refrigerator. You might find some eggs, milk, leftovers, frozen meats, vegetables, etc. . But none of that sounds truly good to the ears does it? No, of course not. What you really want is something good and readily available, like that juicy Big Mac with the fries and large coke that you saw on a billboard outside or on the television earlier. Luckily for you, there's about five McDonald's or other fast-food restaurants within minutes of your home. Unfortunately for you, while these fast-food places advertise the tastiness of their food, they tend to leave out the negatives of buying it. In an attempt to inform the public more of what eating out can do to you, David Zinczenko and Radley Balko
The first Chinese philosophy to Olympic Weightlifting is fast. On the ascent of a lift, the bar must be accelerating quickly to build maximum upward momentum so the barbell can continue to travel upward after full extension. When the lifter begins his first pull on the snatch or clean, if the bar speed is not there he will be drastically limiting his lift. If one struggles with bar speed he must train to move fast early in the lift using muscle snatch. Muscle snatch is a great exercise for obtaining this Chinese strategy. It requires the lifter to utilize bar speed to complete the lift. Many lifters believe strength is the only
Food is not as simple as it seems. Once Anthelme Brillat-Savarin wrote “Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are”. We, as human been should pay attention to what we eat because it will be reflected in the future. A lot of times we know if someone eats healthy by just seeing them, because physically they do not have a good body, healthy skin, or something like that. As we already said more than 50% of USA’s population eats fast food for many reasons: economy, quick service, etc., but the real problem come when we consider health. If People should care more about what they eat and try to avoid fast food, then they will have less possibility of diseases like high cholesterol, obesity, or cardiovascular issues and heart diseases.
Tracing back all the way back to the 1920s, the American people have been constantly bombarded with different views and opinions on how we need to look and how we need to eat in order to be healthy. Diets also became prevalent in this time period and many of the original diet concepts still exist today. Commercials for products promising instant results have been present and provocative to the minds of Americans for decades. In the current 21st century, society has seemingly not improved at all when it comes to giving a clear and factual message to all pertaining to how the human body works and what nutrients we actually need to intake in order to be “healthy”. Society still shows little improvement conveying clear and factual messages
