Even though rain falls in this region parts of the Persian Gulf will still remain intensely hot and arid. The remainder of the central plateau takes in about 12 inches of rain a year. The rocky Zagros Mountains get 25 inches of rain a year. (The Zagros Mountains are the rainiest region of Iran.) The Caspian coastline receives from around 40 to 60 inches of rain a year. However, only half of Iran’s rain comes in the winter and summer is the driest time for Iran. At the highest altitude levels, snow would melt and the water taken from the snow fills Iran’s water supply to be used during the dry, barren summers. In the summertime, the Iranians split their country into two climate zones: garmsir and sardsir. The sardsir land would be the coolest
estled between the Blue Ridge Mountains and Allegheny Mountains, Rockingham County is located within the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Originally founded in 1778, Rockingham County has become a historical community committed to implementing an economic strategy of attracting new business and industry that are compatible with the way of life in the Shenandoah Valley and assisting in the retention and expansion of existing companies (Rockingham County). The painting by Albert Bierstadt “Rocky Mountain, Lander’s Peak” is truly magnificent. Its high horizon line portrays a wide, vast piece of land containing a Native American village besides a lake, sitting below the mountains in the background. The atmospheric perspective is present here with the mountains being painted lighter, and not as detailed, than the rest of the painting. There is a pretty prominent presence of a one point perspective, with the vanishing point being the light, oasis-looking, waterfall in the distance. The colors vibrancy are dependent on the clouds in the sky, being it is clearly not a bright and sunny day, giving a more realistic feel to the whole composition. The focus point, the waterfall, is painted with bright
The Appalachian Mountains are a mountain range in the eastern part of North America. The origin of the mountain ranges name came about when “Spanish explorer Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and his crew were exploring the Florida coast in 1528, they found a Native American town with a name they transliterated as Apalachen. The word ‘Apalachen’ was also applied to an inland mountain range, and through the course of time it became applied to the entire range and its spelling was changed” (“Appalachian Mountains”).
Artists and scientists are subtle and devoted in depicting the nature of reality. Innovation in the architecture scenes have been greatly driven by the advancements in science and technology such as the Pont du Gard. For a building to be certified living, it was required for it to produce the amount of energy it consumed yearly and to capture rain water for all its use in 12months. Painters in the 19th century were faced with a situation that endangered nature itself. A painter by the name Albert Bierstadt painted The Rocky Mountains, Lander’s Peak that caused a mass thrill that associated the canvas with the wealth of the natural resources. His paintings made the congress study geological features and mineral resources along the transcontinental
“Dokte Paul.” the first part of the book titled Mountains Beyond Mountains, begins when author and journalist Tracy Kidder first met Dr. Farmer in Haiti. Kidder describes Dr. Farmer as a “big-shot” Boston doctor who has chosen to do humanitarian-type work in Haiti even though he could have an easy career as a lecturer back in Boston. Kidder realizes that Dr. Farmer is the atypical doctor who would rather get to know his patients as people and cares about their health holistically instead of just treating the symptoms and moving on.
Way far out east of where you are right now is a mountain ridge. A mountain ridge that traverses over two states along the East coast. It’s the same place where the “Last Battle of the Cherokees” occurred. Even the civil war was not to far away from the mountain ridge. One might even have a flashback to US history in the 8th grade if they were told that this was the location of The Battle of Lookout Mountain. Most people are used to seeing waterfalls, well above ground at least. Usually when one sees a waterfall their neck tends to bend backwards so they can look up towards it. Is there a possibility of a waterfall being below the surface level of the earth? Under ground waterfalls can be a very beautiful and natural
The Appalachian Mountains spans from the state of Georgia all the way through the maritime within the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Eastern portions of Quebec. The land is primarily made up of sedimentary rock that was lifted up and folded, because of the collision of North America with Europe and northern Africa during the formation of Pangaea, creating mountains. These sheets of sedimentary rock are wealthy in non-metallic minerals such as coal. In addition, volcanic action and faulting formed igneous and metamorphic rock in specific space in the Appalachians. Plateaus made of this rock carry metallic material, because of this such as iron and zinc. Many land forms that may located here are
The Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina is a diverse geological area to study tectonic setting, metamorphic and igneous rocks, and how the tectonic history has affected the development of the minerals in the area.
A hidden gem known as Neihart, Montana is located right in the center of Montanas Little Belt Mountains. It is located on the highway between White Sulphur Springs and Monarch. Its steep rock hill sides covered with conifer tree will practically take your breath away. With a population of only 51 people, according to the 2010 census, many would consider it just a ghost town but the memories and history of the town are enough to amaze anyone. It is one of only three places in the world where Neihart quartzite can be found. “A reddish, coarse grained sandstone with interbedded dark-green sandstone and shale, according to Wikipedia.”

Warren Wilson. How did I end up here? I could, be anywhere else. However, Appalachia undoubtedly has to be the perfect place to foster my curiosity of the mountains. Throughout my life I have been interested in protecting the environment, many different avenues of art expression, and the cultural roots of mountain people. Now, all of those subjects are covered in The Encyclopedia of Appalachia, but I can go further to tie all of those subjects into the main topic of agriculture, specifically sustainable agriculture, which I just so happen to be majoring in (convenient, huh?).
Have you ever wondered about Montana, have you ever been to the Rocky Mountains or do
Precipitation in areas such as eastern Texas and Oklahoma have an average of 50 inches per year, while Wyoming, some of Montana, and western Texas only get an average of 15 inches per year. In the northern portions of the Great Plains will experience a greater amount of winter and spring precipitation and amount of heavy downpours and snowfalls. In the center of the Plains the summers will most likely be drier due to less summer rainfall.
In this essay I will be writing about an artwork piece. This piece would happen to be "Rocky Mountain, Lander‘s Peak" by Albert Bierstadt which was created in 1863. Bierstadt created an astonishing painting by using many different techniques. Including, but not limited to, atmospheric perspective, sfumato, and visual texture.
An arid zone is a region where there is a severe lack of available water. The plant must require very little water or have the ability to store water, for this type of climate zone can receive up to 25.4 centimeters of rainwater per year (Climate Types for Kids – Arid). In more extreme cases, an arid zone can receive as little as 0.1016 centimeters of rainwater in a single year (Climate Types for Kids – Arid). In the daytime, it can be blazing hot and reach temperatures up to 54°C (Climate Types for Kids – Arid). However, in the nighttime, temperatures can be as low as -30°C (Climate Types for Kids – Arid). The temperature of the zone is relative to its position from Earth’s equator. The soil nutrients in an arid zone are high in salt, low
