Role of ICT as a Teaching - Learning Material (TLM) in the field of education
Abstract
All types of digital technology assistance are included in the term “ICT” but not only computers. It plays a major role in all aspects of countries life; in politics, in economic life as well as in social and cultural development. Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) policies of a country provide a rationale, a set of goals, and a vision of education systems. India has one of the largest education systems in the world with a network of more than one million of schools and 18000 thousand higher education institutions. More than half of the country’s population falls in the target market for education and related services. India’s online education market size is set to grow to $40 billion by 2017. Today, the incorporation of technology into teaching is one of the challenges for education. It is the very time to move beyond the walls of our classrooms to assimilate with the global forces, institutions and societies to revitalize education. The use of ICT will greatly contribute to meet student needs for learning anywhere, anytime. Technology has become a huge enabler, for the complete teaching-learning process. Using technology to enhance the quality of teaching and learning has always been one of the goals of education. Today’s computer-based technologies offer powerful new ways to provide students with direct experience in the classroom curriculum. And, through using teaching
Information communication technology (ICT) helps to learn theoretic development discoveries, treatment and support techniques for education and curriculum. It gives teachers, higher level teaching assistant (HLTA) and children access to educational resources from around the globe anytime and day. While using ICT, children learn concepts, history, ideas, theories and practices across culture when it is use in their classroom. HLTA and teachers however have to know how and why they are using ICT and incorporate the concepts in: social responsibility, creativity, communication, culture sensitivity, decision making technology application and usage. According to Andrews et al. (2006, p.5) “ICT has been defined as including stand-alone computers, networked technologies with a multimodal interface, mobile phones with the capacity for a range of types of communication, and other technologies that allow multimodal and interactive communication.”
The ICT subjects was introduced in secondary schools early 2000’s with poor methodologies. It was that time I was in secondary schools so I saw and even experienced how the mode of computer skills delivery was. The word ‘computer’ itself was a bit knew to most students thou I was very good in mathematics. Shortage of instructors and teaching tools was a big issue. Most young generation fails to express themselves in terms of their future vision because they are blind to the rapid innovations in computer technology. We are coming from different background with different family economic levels. Not all of the young people are aware of this computerized system of the world. Not all are privileged with computerized cellular
In today’s society, technology plays a major factor in the way people operate in their daily lives. Technology is being used as a tool for people to improve their surroundings. People having quick and easy access to a large amount of information anytime they want. With the rapid growth of technology, schools and teachers around the world have implemented many different forms of technology to enhance student interest and achievement. This has entered into teaching methods such as online testing, online reading assignments, research information and many others. The use of technology in school nowadays has become inevitable, but some may argue that the increase use of technology has harmed the development and learning of the students. This leaves people wondering if technology should be

Given that the positives of technology outweigh the negatives;
Technology has been around since the beginning of modern man and it has continued to evolve and transform with time. When once simple hand tools to complete simple tasks were considered technological advances; today technology is viewed a little differently, but the presence remains the same. Technology, beginning near the end of the 20th century and on into today has grown exponentially, and so have the uses and roles, it plays in our daily lives. With this ever-increasing role technology plays in the day-to-day lives of man also comes the increasing role of technology in the workforce, as well as in education. While some educators are open to the notion of implementing technology into the classroom, seeing it enhance student engagement and student learning, other educators see the increasing push for technology into the classroom as a negative outcome. This debate may never be solved completely, but perhaps those resistant to the idea, fearing the technology will, in fact, replace them, are merely just uninformed about how to go about using technology in their classroom, and how it is meant to be an aid in the education of students, not a replacement.
TEACHER’S AWARENESS ON THE UTILIZATION OF ICT FACILITIES FOR BIOLOGY TEACHING IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN MATAZU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KATSINA STATE
Education creates an immense opportunity for the development and at the same time information and communication technology also unlock new door to education (Wims and Lawler, 2007). Many definitions addressed and define the concept of ICT but Blurton (1999) elaborately defined ICT as the different set of technological resources and tools that are used to communicate, store, distribute and manage information. These types of technology include broadcast technology, computer, telephone and internet. ICTs comprise a network system that allows data processing, data storage and retrieval of data (Herselman & Britton, 2002).
One of the greatest advantages of technology is to prepare the learners for the future. It is without question that our learners need to know how to use technology as part of their school years and later in their careers. It is also a way to increase student engagement and motivation. Technology allows teachers and student to explore the internet and discover new parts of the word and obtaining useful information for their tasks. All the learners can be actively involved by using the computers and doing some
Technology is useful to have around like when kids get lost or when parents need them to track their kids. Technology can be useful in other ways, like technology is better for education. Also, keeping touch with family and friends, and for emergencies.
The Impact Principle states effective practice yields evidence of learning. The look on each student’s face will provide evidence as to whether or not they are learning. An educator should assess the faces and student work samples to check for learning. If learning is not present, the educator should accept responsibility for not being impactful, and begin implementing a more effective practice so that the students demonstrate new knowledge. I have discovered this first hand in my practicum placement. I taught a lesson, and as a whole class my students understood the content. However, when I was reviewing their individual work, it was obvious that the students missed the point of the lesson. Therefore, I took responsibly for not teaching the objective in an effective way, and I retaught it in a more relevant manner. Then, my students were successful on the next sample of student work. Due to all of the factors in students’ lives that can hold their interest, an educator must gain and maintain their interest to be impactful. It is then the child will learn. If the educator’s delivery of the content is effective and impactful, evidence will be produced.
Abstract: Nowadays, Digital world is constantly evolving. Nearly every aspect of human life is affected by ICT i.e. from working to socialising, learning to playing, sharing to conferencing, one cannot think without information technology. The technological ages has changed the ways through which people communicate, meet, seek help, search and access information and even learn and take exams also. Online population uses many devices like computers, TV and mobile phones to achieve their goals. This paper discusses how ICT effects today our learning and how the schooling has been changing day by day.
Did you know that there were 53,245 schools in the year 2005 that used computers (Dimauro table 252)? Of course this is an unbelievable fact, but at this rate technology is taking over the world! Technology in education has grown at a rapid pace over the years. Through these years many obstacles have been overcome, but many more still lay ahead. People today use technology on an everyday basis from the time they wake up to the time they go to sleep, but the question of whether technology is positive for the students is still an ongoing debate in today’s society. There are so many things to gain from integrating the use of technology into the classroom such as, having easy access and a broader range
ICT have made teaching-learning process more relevant for the learner and connected to real life. The education system is the main source of human resource development. Its focus is on the acquisition of knowledge, self-learning, generic and transferable skills in communication, entrepreneurship, management and technology that are the characteristics of the learning society of today. Teachers play a crucial role in the adoption and implementation of ICT in education; however, studies show that teachers lack the necessary ICT knowledge and skills. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are generally accepted as a modern instrumental tool which enables the educators to modify the teaching methods they use in order to increase the students interest and it is a new medium, a new way of representing, communicating and working with information. In India, there is serious need for increasing the learning abilities of the students with the help of ICT.
There is substantial evidence that, in the right hands and used appropriately for specific purposes in specific contexts, ICT can be an effective tool in supporting teaching and learning. One of the goals for integrating ICTs in education is to enhance teaching and learning practices thereby improving quality of education
However, the education sector, particularly the area of teacher education, has lagged behind other sectors of the Indian economy in benefiting from the fruits of technological development. Today’s education system faces the challenge to prepare individuals for the information society in which one of the most important aims is to handle information. No amount of technological up- gradation of educational institution will change the performance of our students without the active involvement and support of teachers who are capable of exploiting the profound possibilities the ICT can offer for the teaching- learning process.
