Scientists and researchers have existed for thousands of years and some of their work have been able to allow their legacy to live on after they are gone. Some would say they are the embodiment of mankind. Because of their countless hours spent on research and experimentation, they have been able to create and ensure that technology is always improving. Science and STEM related careers are a growing field that requires the same quality, people interested in this field are problem solvers. The majority of scientists and science enthusiasts follow the same basic process also known as the scientific method. They all give the information collected and confirmed to the public for general use and to spread knowledge. With that being said, a marine fisher biologist, the career being interviewed, can easily be looked at and compared to an applied physicist, the career that is being pursued. A marine fisher biologist is a scientist who goes to bodies of water in order to conduct experiments that evaluates the health of an ecosystem. The information collected is significant and important because it affects fishers and shrimpers within that area that depend on harvesting sea creatures as their way of livelihood. A marine fisher biologist are able to determine if the creatures that live in the ocean are healthy and plentiful. An applied physicist is a scientist who conducts experiments that aim to produce new technologies and solve engineering problems. Their research affects about
1. I have developed an interest in science during my high school career, and love watching new technology being created. I figure that I will most likely either continue on to medical school after I receive my undergraduate degree or try to work to design new technologies that will aid scientific research and study. Therefore, it was really a no-brainer for me to pursue various STEM related courses and subjects. In my opinion, the STEM field contributes to innovation and world progress more than any other fields. Without STEM fields, I most likely wouldn’t even be able to type this paper, or use the internet to submit my college application and scholarships. If the STEM field were to disappear, the world would stagnate. In order to prevent
A deep-sea scuba diver is approaching the bottom of the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia when all of a sudden she sees an Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin swimming on her right. The diver turns around to see a dwarf minke whale on her left. These are just two of the various amazing marine creatures that a marine biologist could encounter whilst simply doing her job. Marine biologists are biologists who study saltwater animals and plant species. Not only are they collecting and analyzing data about marine life, they are raising attention about problems to try to protect the environment (Greenland and Sheldon). However, working in fieldwork can be very physically demanding and marine biologists have to cope with deep-water pressure and walking long distances. Also fieldwork assignments can be very long and last up to weeks at a time (Greenland and Sheldon). Being a marine biologist can be a very unique and amazing experience traveling to rare regions to study marine life, although it can be very dangerous and time consuming.
Ever since my later adolescence years, I have always been intrigued by the diverse complexity of the human brain. Numerous days I have sat down obtrusively observing my surroundings just to satisfy my curiosity on how individuals think, reason and problem solve everyday life happenings. As such, when it was time to attend university, I decided to study psychology as a means of gaining knowledge and understanding about individuals’ cognitive processes and their behavior. During my undergraduate studies, for a particular reason, I was struck by Abnormal Psychology and spent hours thinking about the various disorders captured by the then Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM IV). I spent an awful lot of time trying to understand the differing disorders and how their impact on the behavior and thinking processes of individuals that are diagnosed with them.
The advantages and disadvantages of this career are both equally persuasive. Some of the pros are that a marine biologist gets the satisfaction of getting to help the earth and God’s creatures. This can really give someone
Marine Biologist Becoming a marine biologist is something that look easy to the eye but deep down its more work than it seems. Now if you don’t like water, fish, weird smells, and big things that could potentially eat you, then maybe this isn't the career for you. A career in science may not be the best for most people but if this is something that speaks to you then you have to answer that calling. There is a lot of thing you must do in order to become a Marine Biologist. Like find something you can wake up and be happy doing.
Bureau of Labor Statistics reported employment for hydrologists was to increase 10% from 2012-2022, while employment of biological scientists was expected to grow at a slower-than-average rate of 7% throughout the decade. This may be partly due to the rapid growth of bio as a field, environmental awareness, and research methods. Limnologists with advanced doctoral degrees may have to compete for the academic and grants available through universities. Research positions in the private sector and through government agencies may be more available, but competition may arise if more scientists seek out those opportunities due to the lack of academic jobs, according to projections for biological scientists.
Researchers at the Animal Science Department of the University of Wisconsin-Madison designed a research project that would determine if livestock background, sex, or animal science career interest affected how students viewed important issues concerning livestock farming. They hypothesized that urban students would be more likely to take neutral positions regarding the matter.
We all have a mental picture of what a scientist looks like; this image in our heads has been developed from a couple of different sources. My son is a bit of Sci-fi lover and is completely captivated by Star Wars, Sid the Science Kid, Big Hero 6 and many other science fiction movies and books. If I were to ask him what a scientist is, he would most likely describe a smart, creative and devoted person based on what he has seen in the media. He is not quite old enough to completely understand what it means to be a scientist but he does have a rough understanding of what they do. Just like many things, there is no cookie cutter type of person that makes a scientist.
My whole life I have always wanted to do something where people will remember me. I went threw millions of career choices before I came to the conclusion of a nurse. It’s not something that will get me into History books, but its something where all the people I help will remember what I did to care for them or their loved ones. My mom went to school to become and RN, but dropped out when she became pregnant with me. After that story was told to me, I didn’t want to be anything related to nursing. It wasn’t until my step mom went to school to be LPN that I realized it would be possible for me to do. I saw how much happiness it gave her, and I want the same thing. She loved helping the patients by treating them, and helping their families
Science dates back to the pre renaissance era with William Gilbert being named as the first known scientist. Born in 1544, Gilbert investigated the nature of magnetism. Along with Galileo Galilei who is known to have constructed one of the very first telescopes. Hands-on scientist who designed experiments carried them out and recorded their results. When I hear the word scientist I think of white lab coats, a laboratory, and many experiments going on that come to the scientists mind. Scientist to me are very smart graduates with a genius mind and a lot of knowledge to help change or better the environment we live in. Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Jekyll are some of the well-known scientist who left a great science to us. I
When Diana was dancing with her celebrity crush, Adam Kessler was Adam going up to Diana but in slow motion, while she was dancing with her friend, Will and asked her to dance. “May I cut in?” (Gold 138) Adam politely asked Will. And Will responded with a nod. So at this point, in my head, people are starting to stare at them. While they are having small talk, people begin to surround them because Adam is a celebrity and wonders who’s he dancing with and why. At first, Diana didn’t notice she was dancing with her celebrity crush, but she started to recognize him. “Why do I feel like I know his voice? Where have I heard it before?” (Gold
My backround in science is heavy, but weak in the area of research because of limited opportinities. Going to a small school, research opportunities are held for seniors only. I was granted the opportunity to engage in independent research with a proffessor relating to sexual dimorphisms in the lizard, Anolis carolinensis, but because transportation issues, I could not participate. This experience would be the first real chance for me to participate in research on any level.
Take a look around yourself. What do you see? Maybe books, chairs, a television, or even your clothes. All the day to day things that are man-made, you can be sure that an engineer helped make it. Engineers have shaped our world as we know it. There are many different kinds of engineers from chemical, mechanical, textile, civil, agricultural and structural engineers. Our civilization would be as advanced as the Stone Age without these people. This career demands a wide education of math and science. It is an ever-changing career with new advances in materials and the way products are produced. Engineering careers are very secure with respect to compensation. Regardless of this, it does have it’s disadvantages
Unlike the STEM enrollment trends in CUNY, which is continuing to increase over time, the percentage of STEM degrees earned are not consistently increasing.
c.Science can make you more qualified in your career whether it is science related or not. A clear example of this is being a politician who was to make decisions on issues involving global warming or fracking that are a threat to our planet. With the necessary knowledge on these topics they could make a wise decision that would help solve or minimize the problem.
