Self- Awareness is being met by respecting client’s personal moral, ethical and values. I am an intake specialist at my current employment. I am the first person who meets with the client to get all consents sign before they start treatment. If I do not feel comfortable working with a client, I inform my supervisor so another person can finish the paperwork for me. As an intake specialist I respect clients personal moral, ethical and values and if I do not feel comfortable working with them I will refer them to another provider that will help them more.
Rawlinson, (1990) defines self-awareness as a conscious process in which we consider our understanding of ourselves. Having self-awareness and the ability to reflect means you can assess your own knowledge, skills and behaviours (NCL, 2014). In order to improve the quality of care and develop skills and confidence, one must reflect on their self-awareness experiences, to reach their full potential of practise. To define reflection Duffy (2008) describes reflective practise as an active and deliberate process to critically examine practice. Through self-awareness individuals can get to know more about what they do and what limits their abilities (Ghaye and Lillyman, 2001). Thus improving the quality of care provided to service users, as nurses have the responsible for providing care to the best of their ability to patients and their families.
Self-Awareness, self-concept and emotional intelligence are effective managerial concepts that will result in leadership success. According to Stanford University, having these soft skills are indispensable traits that good managers should develop to be successful leaders. Managers strive to become aware of who they are, what their values, attitudes, skills, and abilities are. These values drive them to achieve and will eventually result in them become more effective. (Showry & Manasa, 2014, p. 15)
Since the helper’s self-disclosure is about sharing their experiences that are appropriate as well as culturally appropriate and is only for the purpose to serve the client. A helper should also avoid telling the client how they should behave because of some client’s desire more explicit instructions or challenges. Nevertheless, be careful that some clients need a specific, and a direct problem to address their tactics. Also, the helper needs to exercise caution and not to violate the empowerment value by challenging the client, even though; it’s not indirectly by forcing them to accept your values. The fact is challenging strengths help the client explore the assets and resources they have failed to use. As a helper, it’s important to make sure that self-challenging exercises do not become self-demeaning or self-destructive. The focus is to help clients challenge their strengths rather than their weaknesses. Therefore, it is also essential to know the source of reluctance is in the client, due to their history of experiencing an intensity of care, lack of confidence, fear of disorganization and even
Explain how and why person-centred values must influence all aspects of health and social care work
Social workers deal with intense situations daily. It is important that social workers are aware of how they are affected by these interactions. Priscilla Dass-Brailsford explains in her book, that countertransference, vicarious trauma (VT), secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue and satisfaction, and burnout are all different ways that counselors can be affected (Dass-Brailsford, 2007). This is where it is important for social workers to have a plan of self-care and stress management resources to use.
Awareness is consciousness of one's personal reactions to people who are different, being aware of personal assumptions, values, biases, and understanding the worldview of a client. (Castro et al., 2010). Counselors must take a look inside the self and gain insight into how their political views affect their attitudes and beliefs about those who are similar to them and those who are different. No one viewpoint can serve as the dominant view because counselors potentially serve all members of society and must be viewed as open to the viewpoints held by others.
Throughout the social work profession, self-care is a big necessity. Self-care in a social work profession is very important because if you were stressed how much would you listen to your clients stressful situations. Also, you need self-care to take time to yourself, so you are functioning while working. Social workers need to be functioning mentally and physically throughout each clinical session. If a social worker is not functioning properly how will the clients have valuable professional help. Without having a hike to clear your mine, you may find other ways to clear your mind: yoga, spa, exercising, and much more. However, some social workers hold their selves together quite nicely, but still have that emotional softness inside. As social
In this assignment I aim to discuss the sociological and psychological theories applicable to mental health practice. The sociological theories I will discuss are poverty and social stratification and the psychological theories will be attachment and social learning. I will base this on the John case study and will also look at the social, cultural, environmental and psychological factors that may have had an impact on his behaviour. I will then look at a range of social structures in society and talk about the importance of social science approaches relevant to the case study.
I could have incorporated the models and self- awareness into my decision-making process to come to NC State by always reflection back. I think that I was in so much of a rush to make sure that I got into a top school, that I never took the time to process everything. I think if I would have used the blue hat of thinking in reflective, I would not have been so stressing out and felt defeated when I got deferred from NC State. Another strategy that could have been used was the yellow hat of thinking I think that the lack positive throughout this journey made it hard for me to enjoy applying to colleges experience. I was so worried about not getting into my dream school that I forget to take a step back in realizing that I was now entering the new face of my life. Lastly, I could have incorporated self- awareness activity of identifying values. The identifying values activity allowed for me to identify characteristic that I feel are important or beneficial to my life. Remember my values, could have benefited my college decision because it could make my decision of coming to NC State base on my Value.
Harro's recommended activities of self-assessment are valuable and informative, yet her idealistic vision of their result is feeble and does not have a genuine cognizance of history, the worldwide political economy we live in today. It's an intriguing life, being both an operators/overwhelming individual from society and a subordinate/target part all the while. I am a female, black, common laborer (working class), American, getting an education on trusts obtained from sally Mae. In numerous regards I am fortunate and in numerous regards I am constrained. My attention to these things does not expel me from the constraints of my existence. Mindfulness absolutely may shape my objectives and choices however it doesn't uniquely focus the result
In this week, topics about self care and ethical, legal, confidential, and caring practice in Health Ministries have been discussed. With these topics, competencies 5 and 7 have been met during the class. First of all, self care is a fundamental need in order to help ourselves and others. We should take advantage of stress reducing techniques that will decrease levels of anxiety to have a clearer perception of our surrounding. Then to help a member of our community, we need to identify first if we have spiritual distress by recognizing personal signs and symptoms. This is promoted by having a spiritual advisor with whom we share our inquiries and thinking. Self-nurturing is essential as well and achieve by encourage ourselves positively and
Self-management is a critical component for the effective management of chronic health conditions. Chronic disease self-management education programs aim to empower patients through providing information and teaching skills and techniques to improve self-care and interactions with health care professionals, with the ultimate goal of improving quality of life. (Jordan & Osborne 2007). *********Engagement of health care professionals and their endorsement of self-management activities are critical to success. I have faced many barriers while I was doing self-management education session and discussed this barriers with other students in discussion group and vice-versa. We also discussed and justified the strategies to overcome these barriers. In this summary I would like to outline some barriers and strategies in self-management education that we were discussed in online discussion.
Health psychology, anther division inside of the American Psychological Association, or APA, is a “specialty applying psychological principles to the scientific study of health, illness, and health-related behaviors.” Empirically based, or in other words “vast in growing research literature is the outcome of scientific methods” (Jones & Bartlett, n.d)“Health psychology focuses on how biological, social and psychological factors influence health and illness. Health psychologists study how patients handle illness, why some people don’t follow medical advice and the most effective ways to control pain or change poor health habits. They also develop health care strategies that foster emotional and physical wellbeing” (
Internalization and self-consciousness seem to be at the root of Romantic poetry. The first generation of Romantic poets struggled to comprehend the complexity of mortality, the natural world and the imagination, thus challenging and inspiring them to express their personal understandings through poetry. Common solutions among the poets came through internalizing their beliefs or to try to escape the burden of self-consciousness. William Blake, William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge are similar in this way, yet they each have different poetic styles.
Are dogs as smart as their owners think they are? Many people would automatically respond ‘yes’ to this question, but how does one define smart? Scientists who study animal behavior and cognition have been debating this question since their field of study began. However, they have come up with a few key ways to begin to determine intelligence, one being self-awareness. Frans De Waal defines self-awareness as, “consciousness of the self, which some interpret as requiring an animal to pass the mirror mark test, whereas others believe that self-awareness characterizes all lifeforms.” (De Waal 2017). Scientists believe that being able to recognize one’s self as present in the here and now is a sign of intelligence. Some domesticated dogs have been proven to show qualities of self-awareness using different varieties of mirror tests.
