Imagine you are driving on a dark and relatively isolated highway. You have a two hour drive to reach your destination and you feel relaxed, perhaps even singing a favorite song. With a random glance at the dashboard you suddenly notice your engine is running hotter than it normally does

When it comes to self-awareness, we are talking about learning things about yourself that sometimes you wish you didn 't know. It might be how you react to certain foods, how different emotions affect you, or a certain boundary that is a deal breaker when crossed. What 's amazing is that you can go through a good chunk of your life not noticing this tendency until suddenly this detail is brought to your attention in a way that cannot be ignored. Like the slowly moving engine needle, nothing has changed in that moment - except your awareness.
Noticing is the starting phase of self-awareness; the first step to 'tuning in '. Unfortunately, for many, this is where they put on their blinders.
Unlike the car situation, when it comes to self-awareness it is often easier to ignore the information you have received. Rarely does it indicate an immediate break-down is pending, so pretending nothing critical will happen if you turn a blind eye is relatively easy. Awareness, however, is a funny thing. It does not happen accidentally. When you become aware of something about yourself, even though it might seem trivial or unexciting... it is time to sit up and take notice.
The warning in the car might cause you to keep a closer eye on the needle; begin watching the signal bars on your phone; and keep an eye peeled for gas stations. It might also produce a spontaneous dialogue with your Deity or prompt you to begin planning what you will do should your car break down.

Our positive feelings of ourselves may decrease because we realize we have fallen short of the standards that we try to live by and we immediately take action to work within those standards. However, action when in a state of self-awareness may vary across cultures. Since self-awareness can deviate among cultures, it may alter our perception of the way we believe the world sees us.

He or she does not want to appear imprudent or inappropriate in front of others. Self-awareness allows one to understand other people, how they perceive one, ones attitude, and ones responses to them in the moment. Individuals actively look to one another for cues about how to behave in a certain situation. Social cues are gestures that are given, usually consciously during a social interaction that communicates a person’s thoughts, or expected actions at certain intervals of a group’s activity.
In very earlier research, the theory developed by Wicklund (1975, 1978, 1979) defines self-awareness mostly as one’s ability to self-observe. That person will base on certain standard or new information to judge his own behavior (as cited in
Self-awareness is self-understanding and self-knowledge. It 's getting to know your true, genuine self. Self-awareness enables you to identify and understand factors of which you were not aware until now that control your reactions and behaviors and harm your relationships, such as: your fears, needs, messages you have internalized, beliefs and opinions.
Self-awareness is another part of how we perceive ourselves. The degree to which we are aware of ourselves vary. There are two different types of self-awareness, your private self-awareness and your public self-awareness. Your private self-awareness is the awareness of your internal state such as your thoughts, feelings, or desires. It can make us more aware of our attitudes and values. When our behavior doesn’t match our values, a discrepancy is made. Because discrepancies are viewed as negative, we will usually seek to change our behavior.
