Should College Drop Out

When it comes to the topic of attaining a college degree, most will readily agree that it is essential to securing a successful career post-graduation. Whereas some are convinced that a college degree does not guarantee entry into a career in one 's field of study nor does it determine success in one 's career, others maintain that a higher education is, in fact, the way to job security and financial success. What comes into question is whether the investment in a college education is truly worth it or not in order to accomplish a student 's goals of success. I think it could be said for most prospective college students that the reason for going to college is to gain the credentials required for most jobs today. What many of those potential students may not realize is the substantial percentage of graduates who do not acquire a job related to their majors, how much debt they will incur, and just how many students don 't graduate at all for reasons such as an overwhelming workload and a poor work/ life balance.

Education has always been a priority for most households because students were raised thinking a higher education equals high paying jobs, but is that really the case? This thought had definitely settled into my mind, but times have changed and so have I. We live in a day and age where students have to be lured into choosing a school based on how luxurious the dorms are or how big the gym is, and not so much on newly renovated science labs. What happened to attend school for education? For some careers, obtaining a college degree has no use and they’re better off spending money on a trade school or finding a job and gaining experience specifically catered to their profession instead. The lack of interest in college students during class shows that college is not worth the high cost and debt that can delay a person from buying a house or saving for retirement.

Many people believe that in order to be successful is to go to college. Also many people believe that college is a waste of money. Since we started middle school teachers made us believe in order to be successful is to have a higher education. That’s not true That’s not true many people have been successful in their jobs without even going to college. College education may be beneficial in the future, but not going to college could also benefit you.

We are told to “go to college” by family, media, and teachers, but we are never given an explanation on why it’s important for us to get a higher education. The importance of higher education is so we can obtain a career that can support our needs and wants. It’s also important because it gives you an advantage when trying to get a job. Employers require a higher form of education, which is necessary for our society to advance. There aren’t many jobs that accept people with a high school diploma as their highest form of education. Employers want people that know what they’re doing, and so does our society. In order for people to go into the career field they want, they need to go to college to learn everything that comes with that career.

When it comes to achieving success in the work force and finding a fulfilling and lucrative career there are few things more important that higher education. Going to college and getting a degree is essential in finding success in the work force. The problem is when the cost of gaining that degree outweighs the financial compensation the career that follows is able to supply. Very few people are able to pay for college out of pocket. The result of this is that students seeking higher education are forced to take out massive student loans. This means that they are entering the work force

Earning a diploma, a degree or even a trade can significantly affect one's future financial status. An education-or lack thereof- can mean the difference between being poverty stricken or financially stable. College graduates earn an average of 66 percent more than non graduates and often enjoy additional benefits, including greater job opportunities and promotions.(Source: study.org) However,  according to spotlightonpoverty.org, 69 percent of students graduate from college on time, yet many graduate without the skills needed for college or work. Without an education chances of obtaining a decent paying job is slim, which can result in a life of impoverishment. "Policymakers and education leaders must implement strategies to reduce the high school dropout rate and adequately prepare high school students for college, while providing low income students with the support they need to attain a degree or credential."

Education is today more critical than ever. College has become virtually a precondition for upward mobility. Men with only a high school diploma earn about a fifth less than they did 35 years ago. The gap between the earnings of students with a college degree and those without one is bigger than ever.

For as long as I could remember, my whole family would constantly tell me how important education is. Every day my father would say that if I wanted a stable life and a well-paying job that I needed to stay in school and go to college unless I wanted to be flipping burgers for the rest of my life. Even now that I am in college, I am still being reminded how education can take you anywhere. College can open many doors for people that want a better life and a well-paying job. Obtaining a college degree can benefit someone in the long run and also prepare them for the real world.

Those who acquire higher education after high school tend to have a more successful career than those who do not acquire a higher education.

There are many factors that play into someone’s choice of attending college: interests, goals, prior education level, intelligence, financial situation, as well as many others. The higher the cost of attending college and obtaining a degree goes, the more pertinent this question becomes to society. The type of job a person is planning on obtaining after he completes his college education greatly impacts the value of his degree. Acquiring a well-paying job after leaving college is the only way for a college graduate to effectively pay off his student loans. Before someone can earn a degree and enter into the workforce, they must do well and complete all of their years in college. I read an article "Is a college degree necessary" in Los Angles Times was written by Mike Rustigan in my English class. The author wrote about the number of dropouts from the university because they feel that school is not the appropriate place for them to learn the knowledge and life. They just want to work with your hands, and learn a skill by itself after high school. By contrast, Obama wants every student has the opportunity to attend college to obtain higher wages later. Obama told Congress, "We expect our children not only to graduate from high school, but graduating from college and have a good paying job." (Los AnglesTimes).
