Gun laws should not be stricter. There are a lot of reasons, but I am only going to tell you one right now. We need self-defense. Self defense helps people feel safe when they are alone. You never know when someone is going to rapidly fire on a crowd of people in public. At least someone with a gun can stop him or her. According to the National Rifle Association 2.5 million guns (at the least) are used for self-defense each year. That means at least that many people have used them for self-defense. Another professor found the same number of people use guns for self defense too. There are statistics shown that guns are a better way of self defense. Researchers at Pew Research say that at least 56% of women and 61% of men say, having guns in
Guns are a major problem in our society and the numbers of these gun-related murders are continuing to rise. On top of the murders you also have people losing their lives through misfire and gun-related suicides. The total death toll of all gun-related deaths averages over 30,000 per year in the U.S. (http://blogs.kqed.org/lowdown/2013/03/07/u-s-gun-deaths-visualizing-the-numbers/). I believe that enforcing stricter gun laws will contribute to getting these numbers lower. The numbers do not lie, we as a society have a problem with gun-violence and we need to do something to fix it.
The role guns play in our society has long been debated on whether or not citizens have the right to own guns. There are those who believe that guns have no role in the hands of private citizens. Whereas there are those who believe that guns are the very foundation that protects our rights and liberties expressed in the Constitution. The debate is over whether or not there should be stricter laws preventing people to own guns. Though gun control and gun rights advocates share similar views on background checks and requirements, each have different views on the safety of guns and the Second Amendment meaning.
More gun laws would have a negative effect on shootings and crime rates. Stricter gun laws would not prevent people from getting guns, would not prevent killings, and would not fare well with the people of the United States. Strict gun laws would only prevent law-abiding citizens from getting guns, and criminals would still be able to get them. Crime and shooting rates do not go down after increase in gun-restrictive laws are passed. People in the United States have the right to defend themselves from harm, and the 2nd Amendment right to own firearms.
During the presidential campaign in 2007 president Barrack Obama in his speech said that ‘we know what to do, we’ve got to enforce laws that are in the book’ in his speeches, he alluded to the fact that we are not doing enough to enforce the already existing laws and this is exactly what in all these many words I have been trying to put forward. Implementation is in many ways a political function. In, effort to reduce gun violence without stricter gun control, our federal government needs to take the responsibility in enforcing the current laws. The justice departments need to be proactive with prosecutions especially with cases of falsification of background information for example in 2009 FBI reported 77,000 falsifications but only 77 or 1% were prosecuted. Congress also needs to approve enough funding for national instant criminal background check system (NCIS) and also states should be encouraged to provide more information regarding background information. The issue of straw man purchases should be well investigated and properly penalized. Organizations like the NRA and the community, who value gun ownership, needs to put the pressure on the federal government. In doing this, citizens have the right to file petitions to the state legislature, or place a ballet to be voted upon by voters, or just voting for those who have the power to make changes. In taking these actions, we can see that Congress will provide more funding, like grants for our current background check
I believe that the United States. should not enact stricter gun control laws because people have the right to self protection,
Over two hundred years ago our forefathers wrote the constitution of the United States and made our right to bear arms in the second amendment. However, many things have changed over the years and what seemed to be a great idea then, it doesn’t work now. I strongly believe that the government should make gun laws tougher and make it hard to own weapons. Certain laws should be in place to make it harder to obtain weapons. Stricter gun control laws will ensure drop in violent crimes, prevent household firearm accidents, and create a more peaceful society.
The first reason why gun control laws should be enacted is because lots of people die from guns every day. Countless people in the USA have been affected by someone they know having to die from guns. According to the CDC, ¨There were 464,033 total gun deaths between 1999 and 2013: 270,237 suicides (58.2% of total deaths); 174,773 homicides (37.7%); and 9,983 unintentional deaths (2.2%)¨(CDC, "Data & Statistics (WISQARS)," (wisqars.cdc.gov). Those figures alone tell just how dangerous guns are when placed in the hands of human beings. It is so easy for people to be able to get guns that almost anyone can get their hands on one if they want to. For instance, according to Mayors. "The Connection between Domestic Violence and Weak Gun Laws is alarmingly high." (www.ncdsv.org). If it is easy for people to get guns they can be used for almost any reason. This quote shows how having weak gun laws contributes to Domestic Violence. We need to make gun control laws to protect us because lots of people are dying or being hurt from gun usage.
Jeff Cooper, the creator of the “modern technique” of handgun shooting, an expert on the use and history of small arms, once said, “The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.” People will always have possession of arms, whether they use it for harm or to protect. There is no need to add more gun control laws. Instead, rules should be strongly enforced, specific guns should be banned in certain areas, and lawmakers need to consider people’s reactions. If the laws were tighter, then it will be more difficult to buy a gun, which will help decrease shootings.
Laws are made to try and prevent certain things from happening. That being said, making stricter gun laws will still not prevent these terrible things from happening. People still rob banks, even though it is against the law. Look at prohibition, for example. The United States banned all alcohol in the country, but look at what happened: people still found a way to get their hands on the drinks. In fact, “What everyone ''knows'' about Prohibition is that it was a failure. It did not eliminate drinking; it did create a black market. That in turn spawned criminal syndicates and random violence. Corruption and widespread disrespect for law were incubated and, most tellingly, Prohibition was repealed only 14 years after it was enshrined in the Constitution” (Moore 1). They had speakeasies, which were bars that had code names and unique passwords. There were bootleggers, who hid the drinks in their boots or secret compartments in their bags. The same results will happen if there was ever a law against guns. The point is, you cannot control people. Criminals are criminals for a reason, and there is no way to change that. You can make stricter laws and checks against guns, but people will still be able to get ahold of
Shouldn't gun laws be stricter? This is a big question in todays world. My opinion is gun laws should not be stricter. Gun laws should stay just as they are. History proves changing these constitutional laws can be a bad idea and just cause more harm than help. I believe the Second Amendment should stay as it is because guns are not the problem, people should be able to protect themselves, history proves changing the constitution will just cause more problems.
With more and more people starting to get fed up with all of the gun control laws, the question is, should gun control laws become more lenient or should they become more strict? First point is that people kill people not the guns. Second, people should be able to use guns as they like without breaking the law plus the gun control laws don’t deter crime. Last, if guns are getting taken away then other things should be taken away too that some may not even think about. Many people think that they should be more lenient and that is a very valid side of the story.
The main reason we can’t enforce stricter gun laws is that half of the country wants guns while the other half does not (Cook 6) When asked why we need guns, some citizens say that they need guns to hunt. However, to go hunting you do not need a huge automatic gun. You simply need a shot gun. Shot guns are much slower than automatic guns. Another reason citizens claim to want guns is for protection (Cook 36) Some people carry a gun on them in case someone tries to harm them. The majority of the guns used in these conditions are small handguns. (Winkler 8) This means we could refrain from taking guns away all together and just try to cut out the more advanced and harmful guns.
The American Gun Laws should be stricter. There are many deaths every day due to guns not being in the right hands. Thorough background checks should be given on every person and the age limit to at least own any gun is 21. More gun control laws would reduce gun deaths. The Second Amendment, “The right to bear arms”, isn't an unlimited right to own guns, and it was intended to protect the right of militias to own guns, not individuals. Also, high-capacity magazines shouldn't be owned by civilians, because they don't need weapons that can kill a mass amount of people. Civilians, including hunters, should not own military-grade firearms or firearm accessories. They are simply not needed, and put others at risk of harm. No one should be hunting
Gun control should not be so strict no one can have a gun. Gun control should be controlled in a certain way. I understand why you cannot have a RPG but you should be able to have a hunting rifle or something like a pistol.
I think gun laws should become more strict in the United States because of all the violence, death, and injury happening here. There are way too many crimes in the United States involving a firearm. The reason people use this I because it is a weapons can overpower people and they just want to get their anger out by killing others for no good reason. A lot of the attackers have a background involving depression, loss in family member, and a lot more symptoms.
