Marijuana is the most popular street drug in America, if not in the entire world. It is a Schedule 1 drug which puts it in the same category as Heroin, LSD, MDMA, Ecstacy, etc., which are the most dangerous drugs in the world that can seriously harm someone. But Marijuana is now legalized in Twenty-Six states, plus the District of Columbia, for medicinal and/or recreational use. Even though cannabis is an illegal drug, hundreds of millions of people are still finding ways to get a hold of Marijuana and the other illegal drugs. There is only so much the law enforcement can do if the people do not wish to listen. It is beginning to impact the lives of americans in a positive way, where they can help themselves why being sick and it allows …show more content…
There are effects that occur along with that nice feeling you get. Short term side effects may include a decrease in short-term memory, dry mouth, impaired motor skills, red eyes, and feelings of paranoia or anxiety. The time it takes and how long the high lasts all depends on how much you smoke or consume, and depending on whether you smoke it or cook and eat it is how long it takes to start feeling the effects of Cannabis. If smoked it will take up to a couple of minutes, but if eaten itll take up to 30 minutes to an hour. The feeling people get is what causes them to want to smoke or consume Marijuana, which makes these people want to go out and buy the Cannabis, and if the states pass for Marijuana to be legal they can charge tax on it and make more jobs and revenue. The States who legalize Marijuana will greatly benefit and prosper greatly with being able to charge people sales tax on the Cannabis they buy from the store. A few years ago Colorado legalized the recreational use of Marijuana. “It turns out pot is a stronger economic driver than 90 percent of the industries active in Colorado” (Pyke). With it continually increasing economy more and more states will do it and it may help with the debt some states are in and the trillions of dollars of debt in America currently. “Legal Weed created 18,005 full-time jobs and added about $2.4 Billion to the state 's economy last
Ferrets are a part of the weasel family. They are closely related to animals like otters, minks, wolverines, and badgers.
The money market for marijuana today is estimated between ten to forty billion dollars(Ekins, Taxfoundation). All of that money is circulating between drug dealers and growers. Why should criminals be getting all this money, when the people of the United States could be making an honest living on the growth and distribution of legalized marijuana. The Criminal Justice system and the Law Enforcement are being distracted by weed related crimes. In 2010 seven hundred and fifty thousand people were arrested on marijuana related charges(Henchman, Taxfoundation). This takes time away from officers that protect its citizens from criminals doing harm. Instead of helicopters flying over harmless cornfields searching for hidden weed, they could be using that technology for life flight or car chases. There are many alternative options for the open cells that a marijuana dealer would be in, or other places an officer could be, instead of arresting someone for possession of
“Individuals have the right to live their lives in any way they choose as long as they do not violate the equal rights of others” stated by David Boaz on drug use and the constitution(Boaz,). Marijuana along with other illegal drugs are all components which are considered to be victimless crimes and are one of the top investments law enforcements make on fighting. Victimless crimes overall are more potential to hurting the economy and society as a whole by keeping them illegal then if they were legal. The reason for this is due to the fact that there is no unwilling participant and the real reason these acts are illegal is due to an external psychic cost. People in the society do not want to see these acts being committed even though
Throughout history there has been many viewpoints on marijuana. Marijuana is cannabis sativa, which is a herbal plant. It’s used for both medical and recreational purposes, although when used medically it has a greater effect for the patient. Marijuana has been legalized in 28 states and statistics collected during the period of the legalization supported that marijuana helped many patients with serious diseases, such as aids, and cancer. Other then being used for diseases, marijuana can be used to deal with stress, sickness, and other disorders. Some people may even use marijuana in place of prescription or store bought drugs because it’s more effective. In the recent years that marijuana has been legalized there has been a great increase
Cannabis, regularly known as marijuana, and by various other names is a composition of the cannabis plant intended for utilization as a psychoactive medication and physiological effects. People usually think that marijuana is unhealthy drug that needs to be avoided, but is it harmful than alcohol and tobacco? In modern days, cannabis is used as a recreational or medical drug, depending on the laws provided by different states in the USA. Although marijuana faces a strong opposition, a force for its legalization is extending across the nation. However, what are the after effects if marijuana is legalized? What are the pros and cons of it being legalized?
Some states have already legalized marijuana, such as Colorado and Washington. Of course these states have seen profits because of the legalization of marijuana. However, this was very costly for both states and so far we don’t know yet if the pros outweigh the cons in these states. People have also moved to these states to get the benefits of
The decision whether to legalize marijuana, the third most popular drug in America is still a very debatable issue today. Some supporting arguments for legalizing marijuana include that the drug is not any more harmful than alcohol or tobacco if used in moderation, there are medical benefits of certain use, police and court systems would be freed up, it would create a source of additional tax revenues, the FDA could regulate quality and safety, less people would be subject to lifelong criminal behavior due to arrests associated with marijuana that trap people in the system, and the plant also has several industrial/commercial uses, over 25,000 products can be made from crop. Opposing arguments include that marijuana is a stepping stone/gateway to harder drugs eg. heroin and cocaine, driving and other dangers would increase, and that it would increase the chance of kids gaining access to the drug at an early age (Messerli, 1).
From mandatory crop to illegal drug, cannabis has gone from revered to criminal in the course of United States history. Its fall from grace has been an education in mass hysteria, propaganda, market manipulation and greed. Fortunately, for those suffering debilitating medical conditions and those that wish to enjoy its euphoric effects alike, it appears that the pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction. The close of the 2015 legislative session revealed a potential shift in the way the Texas legislature views the sale and use of Marijuana. While not a complete victory, two bills legalizing the use of marijuana actually made it out of committee (Savage). That is not to say that if the legislative session had
Marijuana, or cannabis, is a prepared marijuana plant that is intended to play a role in medicine as well as being a psychoactive drug (Kilmer 45). The psychoactive element found in cannabis is known as the tetrahydrocannabinol abbreviated as THC. THC is one of the 483 compounds of the plant that have been identified. Mainly, cannabis is consumed because of its psychoactive and physiological effects that is has on the consumer. Today, marijuana is used for its medicinal values as well as a recreational drug. Other uses might include religious and spiritual rites performed by people (Kaplan 722). Marijuana has been surrounded by legal issues. This paper seeks to delineate the reasons for and against legalization of
Marijuana has always been a major topic on War on Drugs, either to let it stay illegal or to decide whether to legalize it. Marijuana can give off deadly or fatal actions that could to harm toward the user or those around the user. While also marijuana can be a help to the economic problems that America faces today. The Hawaii State Government should legalize marijuana because it is a non-addictive substance, it has the potential to increase tax revenue, and there are medical benefits to its use.
I never dreamed that one-day people could walk into a retail store and buy marijuana! The states of Colorado and Washington are already allowing this (Pro & Con 2014 p.20). I feel strongly that the drug marijuana should not be legalized. Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug (Pro & Con 2014 p.19). When Colorado legalized this their “state went from the healthiest in the nation to one with thousands of mostly young adults in need of medical treatment (Congressional 2014 p.5). To me this is a big indicator to stay away from it. Some may say that marijuana has benefits but its consequences far outweigh the benefits. I will first inform you of the benefits of marijuana and then inform you of the negative aspects of the drug.
Marijuana is most often see as a detrimental drug, but to a great deal of people it helps cure diseases and/or relieve the pain from them. It helps relieve stress and anxiety to people who often have anxiety attacks or problems being in a social environment. Making marijuana legal could also help our overall economy if regulated. Most people think smoking cannabis is bad for your health when that is not entirely the case. Any type of smoking is bad for your lungs, but conveniently marijuana come in many different forms including edibles, chewable and even liquid form marijuana. Marijuana is less harmful and addicting than both alcohol and cigarettes. Marijuana should be legal for those who are eligible to buy it and also to others
There are people who are criticizing why marijuana should not be legalized and why it’s dangerous to health. According to the research performed by Harvard University, “kids who used marijuana only recreationally showed significant abnormalities in the brain” (1). In a related study from the University Of Maryland School, Of Medicine found that “Regular marijuana use during adolescence, but not adulthood, may permanently impair cognition and increase the risk for psychiatric diseases, such as schizophrenia.” (1) May cause death. In similar circumstances, people who advocate against marijuana being legalized may talk about, how marijuana is a gateway drug and if marijuana is legalized than drug use among kids will increase drastically. The position that I just stated is wrong and here’s why. What if your son or daughter or mother is passing away and the only thing that will assist them live little longer is marijuana and it 's illegal in your state, what would you do? I am not stating that cannabis can help people live longer, but it helps people feel much better and delays some internal diseases from spreading. I am proposing that Marijuana should be legalized in the United States. There are main three reasons as to why marijuana should be legalized: Economic reasons, Medical reasons, and criminal reasons.
The legalization of marijuana has been a very controversial issue in America’s society. Many citizens of America are very against the legalization due to false assumptions about the plant. The truth has been in the process of being uncovered for a couple years now but is heavily criticized because of the stereotypical picture of a “pot smoker”. This stereotype has brought years of misinformation and propaganda that comes off as ignorant. Marijuana should be legalized, not only for medical purposes, but for industrial and revenue purposes.
Drugs are constantly on the rise from place to place around the world. With new research completed on drugs and different medicated diagnosis, the increase for drug use will always have a reason to continue its growth. With these increases, more problems arise including side effects and addictions. Depending on the form of drug as well as the person using said drug, the reaction to the drug can vary as well as its effects.
