Social Issues In Ayn Rand's The Kite Runner

The book The Kite Runner takes place in two different places, Afghanistan and America in during two periods. It spans from the period before the 1979 soviet invasion until the reconstruction following the fall of the Taliban then it shifts settings to the United States. The book is told in first person point of view so while you’re reading it, you can get the full effect of the writer thoughts and feelings on what is happening. The violation of fundamental human rights, oppression of culture, discrimination is highly focused on in this book. Although this book touched base on number social issues, the ones that stood out to me were: Rape, Discrimination, and Bullying. The workforce is place that goes unnoticed. Women can hold the same degree as man but would still receive less of a salary because they are women. Another group that get backlash would be the LGBT community in the workplace. Some companies would not consider them as them employee because of their sexuality. Today, bullying is a social issue that chimed its way to the top of the list that’s causing self harm or the harm of others. Bullying is defined as a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people. There are many forms of bullying: Physically, which involves hitting, tripping, and other kinds of force in which someone put hands on you. Verbal, involves hurtful name-calling, teasing, and comments. Social is using relationships to hurt someone. Lastly, Cyber bullying, is when someone uses social media or cellular devices. On of the biggest incident that struck the country in tragedy was the Columbine High School shooting in 1999.
