Introduction:

The purpose of this report is to look into the databases and software that are used by Kean University’s offices of Financial Aid, Registrar, and Student Accounting. In interviewing Scott Martin, in the office of Computer and Information Services, our group has gained insight into what the department does and how, along with how the procedures could be improved. We also interviewed Mukesh Patel, who is in oversees information system operations for the Office of Financial Aid. The main purpose of this paper is to discuss how Kean has used information systems and databases to improve productivity and quality in the last 3-5 years. Later in the paper, we will discuss Scott’s recommendations along with suggestions of our own and specific courses of action to increase quality and efficiency. Kean University has been around for over 150 years. It is the third largest public university in the state of New Jersey, and the largest producer of teachers in the state. It offers over 48 undergraduate and 35 graduate programs, with over 85 options for graduate study. There is one main location in Union, New Jersey, along with a Kean at Ocean Campus branch, located in Toms River. Recently, Kean University has also opened a campus in Wenzhou, China. Kean is home to around 16,000 students and approximately 342 full time faculty.
