There are speed limits for a reason. It is to keep people safe so that everyone can travel the roads safely. Without speed limits there would be chaos everywhere. There would be more wrecks and more fatalities with speed limits not enforced. The roads wouldn't be safe to drive for anyone especially the elderly and new drivers. Currently speed zones are posted in almost every area we drive from school zones to interstates. School zone speed limits are posted slower so that students can cross streets safely near schools. If this was not enforced, drivers would fly through school areas causing a high rate of fatalities for students who need to be able to cross streets safely. This same reasoning is why speed limits need to be enforced in any area people may need to cross the street such as in neighborhoods, shopping areas and hospitals. There are many situations where pediatricians need to be able to cross the street without worry of cars running them over. The most logical way for this to happen is for speed limits to be enforced in these areas. It seems that, officials have carefully designed what speed should be enforced in different areas that we drive. For example, as mention slower speeds are …show more content…
However there are some areas to where drivers are allowed and should be able to drive at faster speeds. If people are driving on interstates, speeds that are higher should be allowed so that people can travel faster. Even though speeds are faster on interstates, they still need to be monitored. Cars are meant to go fast but if driven to fast people can lose control and wreck easily. This is why I strongly agree that speeds should be monitored in all areas. No matter where we drive, we need to know the general speed of others so that we can drive accordingly. If there are areas where speeds limits are 55 and we drive 80, this puts us in danger of
Finally demerit points are another way to reduce the speeding. Demerit points are a way to stop speeding and ensure and encourage safe and responsible driving. Double demerit points are also a way to stop speeding. Double demerits occur on public holidays and long weekends. This is effective because on those specific days it's known people to speed to get to places and to attend an event, they make us slow down on speed. In “Do double demerits work - WAGA” “For fatal crashes, the decrease during double demerit periods was 24%, compared to an increase of 32% during non double demerit
Not everyone follows the laws that have been officially confirmed and established by the government. There are citizens who go around breaking rules on the streets, online, and in any type of events. On the streets, there are drivers who do not drive according to the law. Since cars are very fast, “people are notoriously bad at observing and remembering exactly what happened,” says Eugene Volokh [the author of the article ‘The Benefits of Surveillance’].
No matter the situation there is no reason for someone to be speeding. Only in emergencies and you should have on your emergency lights to avoid trouble. Many people forget what they are doing, however that should never happen. When you are driving you should always be aware of your surroundings and you should be alert at all times and ready for anything to happen. In order to do this you need to be going at an appropriate speed and be prepared to stop for anything that may occur to you or any others while driving. I have learned in this experience that speeding is not something that you should take lightly and worry about it when you actually get caught or when something awful happens. It is not worth losing your license, money, or even someone’s life. There is no excuse for speeding and it is no one’s fault except your own. I am very disappointed in myself because I have been raised to follow the rules and always do the right thing no matter the consequences, and I was taught to always drive safe and do not drive faster than I need to. I never need to drive fast because nothing is more important than the lives of
Rather you agree or disagree with having a speed limit; or even obeying the speed limit. It is our morally duty to accept the fact that lawmakers created speed limits in the citizens’ best interest to protect drivers for minor and fatal car accidents. Some citizens still question, if in fact the government claims to set speed limits are really for the public well-being, or simply to make a quick profit. Of course, one thing we can
Each year numerous lives are lost due to careless and irrational driving. The disregard for safe driving has been a predicament to the United States of America for years. Many years Police have relied heavily on speed cameras, breathalyzer tests and heavy fines as a deterrent against unlawful drivers. Over the years fatality rates have increased, so the Department of Transportation and Highway Safety has composed a series of safe driving campaigns. On many occasions the Transportation Department informs and advises the public about the importance of responsible driving. They propagate safe driving through the various channels of the media and
Have you ever had a time when driving where there is a person who doesn't know what they are doing and they almost hit you? And when you go up to to see what in the world they were thinking you see them on their phone not paying any attention to the road or how they are driving. If so then you are definitely not the only one. Every year thousands of people lose their lives as a result of reckless drivers on the road. Many of the people responsible for these accidents say that they were distracted by either their phones or some other form of technology. Nowadays people are so consumed with their social lives and what's going on social media, that they feel the need to check these things at the wrong times. More specifically when they are driving. Distracted driving should be stopped because it takes the life of thousands of people every year. Distractions while driving is the result of the majority of car accidents and it is a direct violation of the law.
More than 30km per hour but not more than 40km per hour over the speed limit:
In the article “Work Zone Safety Awareness a Priority” by Megan Kennedy. Talks about the issues with speeding in these construction zones. Most of the accidents that happen in construction zones are caused by speeding motorist. When driving through a construction zone motorists should at least decrease their speed by 10mph. Due to limited space in the zones it makes it hard for highway patrol to monitor the speeders. The fines for speeding in the zones increase to help slow drivers down. To help minimize the accidents in these zones pay attention and slow down when passing through a construction
Every year hundreds to thousands people are killed due to speeding and carelessness. I don’t think someone just wakes up and expects to be in a wreck or be hit walking on the side of the road. There are residential areas that vehicles can speed 50-50 miles per hour. I feel that is not safe; especially for kid’s boarding school busses.
Justification: In UK the speed limits in area with school is 20mph. hence the system warns the driver to slow down if he speeds over 20 mph thereby preventing mishaps.
With added measures such as a reduced speed limit to increase reaction time, a longer and more encompassing set of hours, and an increased range of effect, students in school grounds in the district of Spring Valley would be granted an added level of protection. Starting with the reduced speed limit, not only would drivers have a longer time to react to pedestrians who may have wandered onto the road, they also have a drastically reduced capacity to inflict fatal damage on the children. This would bring about a safer environment to learn and play due to the reduced risk of accidents and the concern accompanying them. Secondly, with a larger duration, the threat would be reduced even further, protecting outliers who may have recesses during unprotected hours, or students that happened to drift into oncoming traffic. Finally, with an increased range of effect, these youngsters would be able to worry even less with more freedom and even more reaction time on the side of the drivers. In conclusion, this bylaw would be an easy and effective way to increase the well-being of students and schools all across Spring
Since moving to Gainesville in the early '80's I've seen a slow and steady increase in red light running. A red light runner was something I noticed only occasionally. Seeing an occasional red light runner increased to seeing one about once a month, then to once a week, increasing again to once a day. Now I see many red light runners every day. Running a red light increases the chance of being involved in a crash, furthermore, running a red light thrusts people and property needlessly and selfishly into harms way. Rules, laws, limits, signs, and lights, have all been established, enacted, and erected, not only to control the flow of traffic, but to make driving safer. The first speed limits of 12 MPH in the cities and 15 MPH on country roads for motorized vehicles was set in Connecticut in 1901 (History.com). The world's first electric traffic light was installed at the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 105th Street in Cleveland Ohio in 1914 (History.com). And while walk/don't walk signs debuted in Washington D.C. in 1939 as revealed by research conducted by Richard Weingroff, it is unknown when or where the first was installed. Arguably all of these improvements helped to make driving safer. Of course all the laws, rules,
We all go over the speed limit sometimes. It’s unintentional in some cases but going way over is where the danger comes into play. About 30% of people die of speeding in a car each year. Wouldn’t it be great if we had something to help us stop and notify us that we are going either too fast or too slow? Well I might
The speeding cameras only work from a certain distance, so within that distance many drivers will go the speed limit required by law. Once outside the camera's distance drivers are known to speed up again. Since drivers are aware that they are being watched they try to model as perfect drivers to the camera, but act differently once away from the threat of the speeding camera. This defeats the reasoning behind having speeding cameras and further shows how many drivers fear more receiving a ticket than the possible consequences of their poor driving
Speeding is a common habit that happens around the world every day. The dangers of speeding are certainly well known to most drivers, either by getting a ticket for speeding from law enforcement, being part of an accident due to reckless driving or even having a loved one be a victim of excessive speeding (Upton). Speeding because one is in a rush, trying to show off to friends, or just do not think the law applies to you, are never the answers for speeding. Accidents can easily result in hitting somebody or losing control of your vehicle from speeding. Speed limits are made to keep the community safe, making the speed limit lower in populated towns, while a little higher on back roads, and highways. School zone’s have a vastly low speed limit to insure everyone is being extra cautious for children are everyone around. Even with getting away with speeding, it is still breaking the law while putting others in great danger.
