I want to lay my argument out about speeding limit limitations. I ‘am not against limiting the speeds of roads nor highways. In fact I think that the city, government, or county should have to be more cautious of the speed limits they assign to each and every road. They should consider the safety of people. I feel strongly that the roads would be a bit more safer with some speed limitation I’ll explain why. Every year hundreds to thousands people are killed due to speeding and carelessness. I don’t think someone just wakes up and expects to be in a wreck or be hit walking on the side of the road. There are residential areas that vehicles can speed 50-50 miles per hour. I feel that is not safe; especially for kid’s boarding school busses.
I was pulled over by a police officer because I was going faster than I was supposed to in that designated area. The zone was a sixty-five mile per hour zone and I was do eighty. I have agreed to the terms that I was found guilty of this and now come to you the reader explaining why it may be dangerous to be speeding in certain areas and ultimately everywhere. During this experience I have learned that there are many consequences for not driving safe, because there is never a good reason to speed. I have learned that it is extremely dangerous to speed and that there will be consequences, even if they are minor like, obtaining a ticket, and occasionally they are major, like killing running into someone else. It does not matter what happens after, you should not be speeding ever because there is never a good
In American society today, there are numerous laws designed to protect all citizens. One such law is having a speed limit. This requires motorists to drive reasonably and consider the conditions and potential hazards, regardless of what the speed limit signs say. As the automobile demands grew, the streets and highways expanded throughout the US, lawmakers created speed limits. On thee another hand, some citizens believe with modern day road materials and current automotive technologies, cars can safely exceed the legal limits set on almost every road in the United States. But, endless amount of studies and researches proves that having a speed limit can save lives, not to mention money.
Each year numerous lives are lost due to careless and irrational driving. The disregard for safe driving has been a predicament to the United States of America for years. Many years Police have relied heavily on speed cameras, breathalyzer tests and heavy fines as a deterrent against unlawful drivers. Over the years fatality rates have increased, so the Department of Transportation and Highway Safety has composed a series of safe driving campaigns. On many occasions the Transportation Department informs and advises the public about the importance of responsible driving. They propagate safe driving through the various channels of the media and
Speeding takes a huge role in many teen crashes that result in fatalities. Going faster than the posted speed limit on a road, means that you are increasing your chances of crashing exponentially. In 2012, 21 % of serious teen crashes were a direct result of going too fast for the road. By going over the speed limit you are not only going too fast for the given roads conditions but you are also increasing the amount of time you will need to stop your vehicle in the event of an obstacle in the road.
In “Speed Safety Cameras Near Schools Make Sense”, Hope Reeves writes about the opposition against a bill to expand the number and scope of speed safety cameras in New York City school zones. Reeves claims that speed safety cameras are effective and “violations have dropped an average of 63 percent where speed safety cameras already exist.” The cameras are carefully calibrated and are not activated unless a vehicle is traveling more than 10 miles above the speed limit which eliminates the possibility of malfunctioning. Reeves believes that “adding more speed safety cameras in school zones would calm traffic citywide [and] train drivers to obey the law.” While motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury-related death for children
Within the town of Glenboro, we currently have in place the fundamental regulations imposed by the Alberta Traffic Safety act which impose a thirty kilometer per hour speed limit throughout specific hours of the day. This area of effect only surrounds the school boundaries and nothing further, proving a significant threat to children that have possibly wandered astray from
First of all, I believe we have too many drivers and not a perfect enough system to tell our drivers how fast to go. It’s a scary thought that we trust people we don’t even know to be sober and level headed enough to share the road with a car full of young children. We need to manage how fast our drivers are actually going to make us safer.
Five years ago, the Center for Controlled Disease (CDC) reported that 79.5% of college students are sexually active (The Daily Barometer Staff). Seeing that nearly all students are having sex, it seems plausible that every university would have the proper education and health resources to insure that students are being safe and smart in their activities. Declining to provide these resources is similar to letting an inexperienced driver take the wheel of a automobile. Most teens would jump at the opportunity to speed down the streets at first chance. But quickly after putting the car into drive, the excitement would soon fade as panic starts to kick in. This speeding driver, much like an uneducated sexually active college student, would not
Since the first gasoline powered vehicle was invented, automobile technology has advanced at a rapid pace to bring us faster, safer vehicles (Managing Speed). Roads have improved from dirt and gravel to asphalt and concrete, and the number of vehicles on the road has increased exponentially. The motor vehicle has become the backbone of today’s society. Speed limits in the United States are at the highest they have ever been, yet vehicles today are powerful enough to easily exceed those posted speed limits. There are two very different groups of people advocating for what a reasonable speed limit is: a group lobbying for extreme safety and a group lobbying for faster travel times. Driving is an inherently risky undertaking no matter what the speed limit is, thus a compromise is tried to be met by increasing safety while allowing for practical travel times. There have been various methodologies theorized in setting speed limits, but which one is the best for today’s technologies and environments?
Car crashes are the number one death of teenagers, a lot of these deaths are by the use of technology and not buckling up. To begin, the National safety council reports that “28% of vehicle crashes”, are caused by the use of technology (Klass & Roney 5). Many accidents are caused by teens looking at their phones and the use of social media behind the wheel. If more stricter laws are set on phones in cars that percentage should fall. In general, the use of phones today by people is just about everyone and people should be more smart and not be using their phones while driving not just for their safety but others. Furthermore, the amount of teens that die in car accidents is “Four times the amount of drivers twentyfive to sixtynine”(Klass & Roney 3). Younger drivers do not buckle up as many other older and experienced drivers. The more young drivers that are taught what the real impacts of not wearing a seatbelt can cause they would probably be more wise. Generally speaking, some young teen drivers do not see the seatbelt as being important, when really it is the most important thing in the car.
The Methods and practices for setting speed limits locally, and globally started prior to the year 1885 when Karl Benz had revealed the first gas powered engine automobile on public roads. The car would reach about 13mph (21km/h). With the induction of better and faster vehicles and accommodating roadways speed limits or initial guidelines were established nearly 200 years preceding vehicles when Newport, Rhode Island prohibited horses galloping on major “streets” or in busy areas such as the markets or near churches to prevent pedestrian deaths. Boston Massachusetts limited carriage speed to a walking or foot pace on Sundays to protect church-goers. In 1861 the English parliament was the first to set a speed limit for mechanically-propelled vehicles using something called the locomotive Act categorizing automobiles as “light locomotives restricting the speed to 10mph (16km/h) on highways and 5mph (8km/h) in city or village limits, along with new operating speeds came rules to accompany them. A driver had to have 2 passengers; Two sat in the automobile driving and the third walked in front with a red flag waving it to warn pedestrians
I am for the limitations against speed zones because, the speed zones are broken in to different categories based off of the specific area they pertain to. Such as residential, school, or highway. Even then some areas, highway: are again further separated by the weight limit of vehicles with larger vehicles having a reduced weight limit. This separation in speeds based on areas benefits the traffic and driving community in maintaining a safe travel environment for other vehicles as well as pedestrians.
Many argue that many drivers already go 60 miles per hour and this will only lead to people going 65 instead. This statement could turn out to be very true but has a simple fix of having law enforcement ensure speeds do not get out of hand. Those people admit that most people already travel these speeds, which would ultimately provide for a smooth transition regardless of one’s stance. Some believe an increase would lead to more accidents, therefore leading to more fatalities. An issue as such needs to be the main discussion point but results will always vary in each case. Variables such as weather conditions, drunk driving, or use of cell phones are some of the top causes of accidents, which is why accidents cannot be directly pointed at an increase in speed limits. These other distractions should be evaluated on their own instead of pushing the blame towards speed limits.
II. Speeding is a serious crime that isn’t thought as one. It’s time to take it seriously and think of the lives that could have been lived with someone just took the time to slow down.
When dealing with handling large amounts of traffic, cities may experience a higher incidence of accidents or speeding cars due to road rage. Cities also deal with risking driver safety because some drivers may be tired from long hours at work and do not have enough energy to stay awake throughout the hours of traffic on the road home every day. Traffic congestion not only affects car drivers, but it may also delay the trip of those who get to places on the bus and in taxi cabs as well. On city roads, traffic congestion may lead to the death of many pedestrians by car accident because drivers may become impatient and outrageously try to run red lights or not stop at the crosswalks. Also, the running engine in the high traffic may lead to high rates of air pollution. Some potential solution are to build bridges or streets around the city that are made mainly for public transportation services such as the city bus or taxi cab in order to reduce the number of frustrated drivers on one road. Also, cities may also arrange for road construction to be done at times when the
