Abstract
The City of Kelsey’s founder, M. Kelsey’s vision was to “preserve the natural resources of the land and maintain a close-knit community” (Apollo Group, 2011). The elected and appointed officials who have followed consistently meet the needs of the community by continuing to build upon foundation that the city was built – self-sufficiency and a strong sense of community (Apollo Group, 2011). The city has seen a significant increase in population over the past few years and expects this trend to continue into the foreseeable future. As the City of Kelsey grows, businesses and industries will also continue to progress and particular care must be taken to preserve the natural resources and the tradition of the city while balancing

New York City Mayor Bloomberg stated that his Administration “has never been satisfied with the status quo” and pushed to “look at old problems in new ways” (Bloomberg, 2010). Mayor Bloomberg saw a need to reduce poverty and supported the Center for Economic Opportunity’s development and implementation of over 40 new poverty fighting strategies. Every strategy was evaluated for effectiveness with promising results. The results were so significant that the Obama Administration award the city close to $6 million in “social innovation” funds (Bloomberg, 2010).
Under Marion County Health Department (MCHD) Administrator Delois Dilworth-Berry’s leadership, the MCHD grew with the needs of the community resulting in an increase in the demand for services (MCHD, 2006). In the social work field, Lori Nesbitt, statest that “a social worker has the power and the responsibility to link people in need with the appropriate community resources” (MCHD, 2006). One of the key roles of a social work is to listen.
Listening is a key role every public administrator or leader has to the citizens or customers he or she serves. The City of Kelsey values the input of its residents and believes input from the Public Meetings, the resident surveys along with the analyses of current and future trends will help determine the best uses for the new park. The Stanley Park Project is consistent with the City of Kelsey’s vision to maintain public trust, provide customer service,
Social workers react to reports and take those in danger of neglect to a safer environment. “Being a social worker isn’t the easiest job to do, to succeed you have to be mentally strong and actually look forward to going to work” (Martinez). As a social worker you view the world differently from the cases you handle in an everyday bases
At community level, the social worker plays the role of advocacy. She is persuasive, assertive, and patient in her day-to-day encounter with patients. She is a community organizer; she coordinates financial aid to long-term residents without sponsorship and serves as a liaison to some of the patients she cares for. It is vital for the human service professional to provide information about social issues that are likely to affect the public (O'Hagan, 2007).
Social workers in the healthcare field can be very beneficial to an interdisciplinary team. Throughout the semester we have looked at how social workers bring their professional and distinct skill set and beliefs to these teams. There are many stereotypes and biases surrounding social workers and other professionals on interdisciplinary teams. Social workers also have different views than other healthcare professionals and use their skills in communication to help the clients they serve, along with various other skills that are unique to social workers differing from other professional in the healthcare field. A social worker’s skill set can be extremely useful when working with specific populations at risk. The relationship between health
Social workers must strive “for a full understanding of the complex interactions between the client and all levels of the social and physical system as well as meaning that the client assigns to each of these interactions” (Andreae, 1996, p. 605).
Social work professions need to understand the importance of how individuals interact both with other people and their environment, to have an understanding how individuals are affected by these interactions (Rogers, p. 2). According to Rogers (2016), “Social workers are knowledgeable about human behavior across the life course; the range of social systems in which people live; and the ways social systems promote or deter people in maintaining or achieving health and well-being. Social workers apply theories and knowledge from the liberal arts to understand biological, social, cultural, psychological, and spiritual development (p. 2). Their work with clients begins with assessments to evaluations of intervention and is based in and supports of the core value system of the profession.
On September 21, 2015, I met with Ms. Katie, a student in the MSW program at NCSU, to conduct an interview. We met at Starbucks in Cary, in the crossroads shopping center. Ms. Katie’s responses helped me learn and think about social workers in the child welfare social field. As a prospective social worker, my questions were formed based thoughts that I was concerned about my responsibilities in the social work field..
With a master 's level education in social work, I see myself envisioning clients’ health and well-being. As a student, I will study and practice techniques, beyond a generalist perspective, that will allow me to give clients hope and the ability to see something greater than what they are facing. Upon completion of a Master of Social Work direct practice degree and certificates in gerontology and mental health programs, I intend to become a licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I will competently incorporate specialized skills in different professional settings while developing my knowledge of a wide range of social issues and professional standards. With commitment, I wish to develop skills that will enable me to create or find hidden resources and services for my future clients, create platforms through counselling for victims of trauma.
There are many programs our government has put in place to help with Poverty, such as Opportunity NTC. This two-year pilot program attempts to reduce poverty by rewarding good behavior with cash (Cities Guide New York, 2007). There is money awarded to

The growth of the County is detailed through several planning elements: demographics, population needs, housing, economic development, environment, community character, parks and recreation, public facilities, transportation, land use. Many goals include, a focus to establish a sustainable long-term supply of water systems, an improvement of infrastructure, facilities, and simultaneously modernize with technological systems. Social work agencies strive to provide access to services that promote well-being for those most in need in society. Different agencies may vary in regard to their specific purposes, missions, or foundations. Two agencies that provide assistance in diverse ways to individuals in need are the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and The Mayhill Hospital. The following discussion will explore comparisons and contrasts between these agencies with regard to their focuses, interventions, and roles.
The main issue discussed at the meeting was increasing the funds in the city’s budget for the purpose of restoring and paving roads in St. Augustine. Of the nine people who spoke, all shared the common sentiment that in previous years, the money allocated by the city’s budget for road repair had been incredibly insufficient. The deterioration of roads has had a negative impact on tourism, business, and everyday life for St. Augustine residents. There were tales of visitors scoffing at “pathetic” road repairs, as told by a resident and business owner, David Holliday, which were affirmed by Bernard DeRaal, owner of a popular tourist restaurant, Cap’s on the Water, who advocated improving roads for the benefit of tourists. Resident Delta Long, shared her story of losing her car to a flood while taking her son to school to demonstrate that the poorly maintained roads are prone to flooding and pose a safety threat. Ed Salvin of the Clean up the City of St. Augustine Initiative, brought up another example to express the frustration of citizens, in which he spoke about the time a pickup truck got stuck in a sinkhole. All of the commenters advocated an increase in city funds for road repair and a reduction in unnecessary expenditures. Susan Rathbone, a citizen of St. Augustine and President of the Davis Shores Neighborhood Association, pleaded with the commissioners to stop wasting money on luxury items for city hall such as iron gates and expensive draperies. She and several
The need to evaluate the value that is predicted is very important to the community. The proposal will help the Council to take better judgement related to the development of the City of Kelsey. With all the facilities that Stanley Park Project seem to offer shows to be extremely beneficial to the City; from basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, gymnasium, fitness center increases the predicted value of the Stanley Park Project immensely. A major importance factor to focus on is the air quality and the water treatments and how would the predicted value of the
The two key elements in successful practice are the social workers ability to guide clients through the phases of the change process and assist clients in making decisions that will result in enhancement of their social functioning or the improvement of a social condition (Bradford W. Sheafor, 2008, p. 52). Social workers select and use specific techniques that have been individualized to the needs and situation of the client or client group being served, and the resources that are applied to help resolve the client’s problem or concern (Bradford W. Sheafor, 2008, p. 51).
Social Work’s core philosophy and values are centered around social justice and social well-being. Oppression, injustice, discrimination, and violence are antithetical to the social work profession. Social Work believes in strength-based approaches and the person-in-environment perspective to cater the needs and welfare of individuals, families, groups, communities, and society at large. Generally, the target populations for social work are vulnerable, marginalized, and oppressed people; however, social workers provide services to people with a wide range of problems, such as poverty, addiction, mental illness, etc. to empower them to meet their own needs. Historically, the social work profession started its operation by providing neighborhood
