Purpose of Research
This study grew out of curiosity to find out how students admitted through Post UME screening tests for three years running are doing in their academic work. The recent ban of the Post-UME screening exercise by the minister of education and reintroduction of the Post-UME scheme after persuasion from the union of Vice-Chancellors in July prior to the commencement of admission in 2016 has made me develop interest in the topic. The literature at my disposal has been carried out to evaluate the quality of academic performance of engineering students admitted through Post UME screening test.
This study is therefore well-timed and well positioned to generate data for improving the exercise if it does have an effect in the academic performance. The purpose of the research therefore, is to evaluate the academic performance of the students admitted through Post UME screening test. Also to look critically at the generated data that will prove their superiority over their predecessors who were admitted through their UME scores in 2004 before the screening process was introduced.
Hypothesis of the Study
To compare the various groups in this study, hypothesis was stated and tested at 0.05 level of significance.
Hypothesis: There will be no significant difference in academic performance between engineering students in various programs admitted through Post UME screening and those admitted through UME scores.

This study also provides information for the teachers to ensure the students assessment and aptitude examination are fit to their ability and skills.
Internal validity of this study included data collection process and student personal interest in education. For example, students may have scored in exam because they concern about their own education. Reliability of this study instrument has not been tested. This is the first time this group will have this survey. There is no former survey to use as a standard to see if there are many changes.
me people considers that Standardized Testing can’t sufficiently assess students’ potential. They describe that the tests restrict creativity, fail to give every student a fair chance, and are not able to comprehensively analyze a student’s future. Nevertheless, as a student of my generation, I can look around the circumstances and my fellow contemporaries, and find that Standardized Testing is the best way for now to assess a student’s potential. This point of view will be supported by the following paragraphs.

Standardized tests have become a recent controversial topic across the nation. Americans strive for a great education system, but fail to realize that testing is the main issue. It is believed that they are a simple way to evaluate students from all different areas. However, there are countless faults that cannot truly show students’ ability. Testing has felt tremendous influence from the emphasis on efficiency. University examinations have moved from individual testing by professors to nowadays where most exams are machine graded, text-book given multiple choice tests. Thus, with the infiltration of McDonaldization into the educational system, test taking has become extremely efficient for the professor.
While researching and even taking a college placement test, I learned that college placement tests are an important and in some cases, a vital part of the college process.
The third point is that the national university examination will encourage students to study. Thus, the qualification of admitted students will be enhanced.
